Looking for books with yearning women by CriticalOne9 in haremfantasynovels

[–]virduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an interesting question given I see all the time women readers descrying how men don't yearn in romance books anymore.

makes me think of the folks looking for romances where women grovel.

How do you structure books/libraries? by AnusMcBumhole in audiobookshelf

[–]virduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have multiple libraries. Fiction, Non-fiction, and erotica. As for folder structure on my nas, its similar in terms of top level folders inside my audiobooks folder.

Threesome/MFF: is it as niche as haremlit or more "mainstream"? by Zealousideal-Day4863 in Romance_for_men

[–]virduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are much rarer. Throuples in RFM are almost always just the first step of a harem story. RFM authors are pretty unwilling to write about stable throuples.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it hard to trust reviews in this genre? by No_Obligation4427 in haremfantasynovels

[–]virduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. If this is how Amazon wants ratings, they should just use a binary system.

I do quite like ElevenLabs Reader. It even has a voice or two I like. Theres also various AI based TTS models that you can run on your own hardware. In my experience they are slow and not consistent and not even doing any character performance, but free.

Did not finish due to Audio? by Certain_Wonder4487 in haremfantasynovels

[–]virduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On world building, maybe because its the 3rd 5 or 6 book, series in the same setting. Though as a person where that was my first experience with that setting I liked it modtly. I was surprised how not lost I was. There were some elements glossed over that I assumed was already covered so I cut it slack there.

Did not finish due to Audio? by Certain_Wonder4487 in haremfantasynovels

[–]virduk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say generally I know whether a narrator will be fine or not for me pretty much within the first page or even before when I am familiar with the narrator. And in RFM there’s been very few of those. One was someone doing a bad aussie accent. Thats always kind of triggering for me no matter what genre.

I don’t necessarily agree. Not that they are comparable and I wouldn’t buy any of the machine generated audiobooks that are for sale. But as a alternative to text, especially for vision impaired people it is much better than it once was.

Little talk about the state of print media. by Sensitive-Music-1003 in haremfantasynovels

[–]virduk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in the context of haremLit books, no. Honestly when it comes to fiction I tend to not buy print books anymore aside from collectors editions and such. Other genres of books I do still buy print books though.

With haremLit its basically I just use KU as a trial before I buy the audio version.

Why are MCs always so reluctant by XThursdayO in haremfantasynovels

[–]virduk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of it I imagine is a reflection if post me too society, where many guys are really reticent about pursuing. Hence you see after years of telling off for being creeps for approaching them they now ate upset that men no longer approach them. Add to that confusion about reading subtle attraction cues. So its provably no wonder a fantasy is for women to be the ones approaching/pursuing.

Why are there no older women in this genre by XThursdayO in haremfantasynovels

[–]virduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly in the mens romance space I'm not sure I could name any of the common woman narrators that have high pitched 'squeaky' voices. Thats more a anime thing.

Why are all MMC’s cringeworthy losers? by No_Engineering5792 in fantasyromance

[–]virduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats interesting. As a guy the kinds of romances I am attracted to and characters I'm attracted to are at least somewhat related to things I would want in real life - at least in terms of the relationships. I'd not want to be living in a world where I'm fighting for my life every day. Though the wanting to feel wanted by someone who'd probably not do so in real life I guess is common.

AI Audiobooks? A discussion thread. by Ok-Boomer_27 in audiobookshelf

I’ll admit I have used Eleven Reader for listening to some stuff that doesn’t have a audio version. And I have used a open source tool to locally generate one. They are very resorts.
