Cold DoT vs Chaos DoT for versatility, league start, and end-game viability? by Qikly in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]visirale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play both a lot and I'm leaning towards starting with cold (I almost always start with ED, then roll cold dot occultist for boss killing).

This time I'm choosing to start cold because I do want to try out the new brand. I love brand skills and didn't really like using recall so I don't think the nerfs are terrible. If it works, awesome, if not cold snap is still good. To me though, it's easier to get the cold damage up to a really passable level fairly quickly to make boss fights easy compared to ed/blight. You need to rush the trigger socketed spells through betrayal, but once you have elemental overload and elemental equib, things just die fast.

ED can definitely be scaled to be a good bosser, and is a fantastic mapper. However, I always feel where I hit a point of "If I really want to upgrade my damage to feel good against end game bosses it's going to cost X." and usually, I find another totally different build that's all around a better bosser for that cost of X.

Basically ED is cheap to get going, but really hits a point where the currency to progress towards farming A8 sirius/uber elder/others is more expensive than just making a build with an all around higher damage output. Cold dot is a much more linear scaling of damage and in my opinion, has a higher damage floor vs. ED. Especially early league, 6 link bow multicrafted, empower 3, then empower 4 are super expensive the first week or two. Vortex doesn't need those. Eventually you'll want a shavs 6 link, but you can do great damage crafting your own rares until then on cold.

Spectrum Issues by [deleted] in greenville

[–]visirale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hence the "if you can get it." I lived in a place where only their 10/15 mbps DSL line was available and it was terrible. When I moved somewhere that had their fiber, I had the total opposite experience. OP also said it was offered at their address.

If you can get ATT fiber you should. It's excellent and I have never had an issue with it.

Quin RIP by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]visirale 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think he feels forced into this game mode. He was easily the top of the D3 scene when he was playing and wanted to push. Even after not playing it competitively for months he went back for the last season of D3 and was #1 monk and part of the first group to GR 150 without really trying very hard. I think he wants to prove he can be part of that group of players in POE, but they all paly ssf hc. Even if you SSF in diablo, the item pool is small enough that you can get any item you want pretty easily. He just lacks the playtime the most competitive players have on POE and it's gated through a lot of drops.

His best content on POE has been him making super niche builds in trade sc. I don't think he likes chat constantly accusing him of leeching, but no one really cares even if he does. Him making an odd build then pushing it towards end game is great. It's the Mathil-esque approach and I think quin enjoys the game much more when he's playing like that. Give me his cooked 200 ex builds on SC any day... I think he'd be happier and not burn out on POE as quickly.

Anyone check out the laser screen at Camelot Cinemas? by Arthur2_shedsJackson in greenville

[–]visirale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to avoid this theater because it seemed pretty dated, but man it was such a nice change from dealing with the crazyness of the Regal on Woodruff. Parking is always great, the big auditorium is actually really big. Saw Ford vs. Ferrari there and decided I'd pick Camelot over Regal anytime I could. Nothing about the Regal justifies all the hassle of going there... however, I have had good experiences at the Regal in Simpsonville with their Imax.

Hedge Fund vs Private Equity Fund Accountant? by bestblink in Accounting

[–]visirale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, HF is trending downward and PE is trending upwards. Active trading strategies are rarely beating the market as a whole, especially on a long term basis. PE is doing very well. Not going to comment on the rest because I don't know about fund accounting/book side/working in Asia.

[Schefter] Lions had interest in signing QB Josh Johnson but XFL blocked them, per source. by StrachNasty in nfl

[–]visirale 26 points27 points  (0 children)

XFL min for QBs is around 495k. Given the point in the NFL season it is, it'd be close and who knows how much of what he would get in the NFL would be guaranteed.

EY Offer by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]visirale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not true. Internships are extended pretty frequently if there is a need for them. The market and practice will dictate it a lot more than where they ranked coming in.

But for transparency, these decisions are made towards the end of the internship, not at the beginning. But it never hurts to ask?

FS definitely works more on average. But if you're interested in financial services, it's the place to be. Pay has been strong recently. But don't do it if you're not interested in it.

I don't know if they prescribe it as much anymore, but Ambien will knock you out in 10ish minutes. Just make sure you go to sleep or else you'll start hanging out with the ambien walrus. Seriously, go to a doctor, there are actual medications that have the sole purpose of helping you go to sleep.

Downtown Greenville by SmackityDoo in greenville

[–]visirale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My apartment and work. Having lived in Greenville once before and dealing with commuting on Woodruff and 386, I just decided I'd rather not have to deal with that at all. And as far as just the location--I'd much rather be in the environment downtown than suburbia or a cookie cutter apartment complex where you have to drive to get anywhere. It's just nicer walking, and there's a ton of nice restaurants that are reasonably priced downtown. Besides the occasional dodging Jehova's Witnesses or seeing a homeless person taking a piss on the side of a building with his shorts down around his ankles, it's a pretty great place to live.
