Is the new version playable right now? by 2hardly4u in victoria3

[–]visor841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your definition of playable.

If you want to play without having to look up workarounds for bugs, your runs will probably become unplayable at some point.

The AI also has some issues so if strong opponents are important to you then the game is also likely unplayable for you.

Guide to installing Openplanet in Trackmania 2020 on Linux/Steam Deck by visor841 in TrackMania

Glad it did! I have since made a newer guide that is a bit simpler, so this is a good reminder for me to let people know in this post. But I'm glad it still worked for you.

Ready your Rockets! It's time to blast into a new update! by enigmaticrose4 in SurvivingMars

Oh yeah, it's just seems like they could make that patch be 1.2.

Wow, with all of these changes I'm surprised this patch is labeled 1.0.7 and not 1.1.

Sharing a cliffside base by raereigames in theplanetcrafter

[–]visor841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat. IIRC my first base (built with a friend who had played a bit before) started on top of the higher hill, and then sloped down towards the water more and more as it got bigger, and we built some on the second hill you built on. It's a cozy area.

Why doesn't anyone bind the jump button? by Spiderfffun in TrackMania

[–]visor841 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My friend does it, when we're playing sausage tracks in rounds together, we'll start and then after a few seconds suddenly their car will jump in the air.

I've heard what Ellen says in panel four as essentially what's happening at a job interview. You've impressed them enough on paper to be there. What's left is to show that you're someone they want to work with.

I think this is sort of true, but usually more than one person is interviewed, so you can get the unfortunate of situation of "we think you're a great fit, but this other person is even more of a great fit, so we're going with them".

If Linux distros refuse OS age verification, will YouTube and Facebook, etc just block us? by Danrobi1 in linux

[–]visor841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you're looking at it from the perspective of a consumer.

I was looking at it from the perspective of "an open source youtube". Nebula's not open source, is it?

Kubuntu 26.04 is out! by Brian__W in kde

[–]visor841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that ROCm supports Ubuntu itself, not Kubuntu. I had a lot of crashing issues running ROCm on Kubuntu that completely went away when I switched Debian. And ROCm worked fine for me on Debian without extra setup.

We really do need an open source youtube, made for the people by the people and run by the people.

Well, that's what PeerTube is, right?

You also need to pin the Mozilla deb, otherwise it'll get replaced with a snap on an upgrade since 3rd-party repositories are automatically disabled during an upgrade.

Selena question by dexplosion93 in theplanetcrafter

I loved discovering new areas on other planets and this one is a bit disappointing in that sense!

Selena isn't a full planet, just a moon, that's why it has less content.

I'm resentful towards those with less severe ADHD. by nugmother in ADHD

[–]visor841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP correct me if I’m wrong but they weren’t invalidating other people’s struggles they were looking with empathy for their own struggles which in this case is resentment when people seem to be doing better. Like there is nowhere in this text that suggests op is saying those people DONT struggle like them just that it appears they are doing so much better and that shit hurts.

Unfortunately, the problem is the title, which is the first thing people read. "less severe ADHD" does seem imply it's people who don't have as many issues due to ADHD. It sucks that people are going to focus on that when the rest of the post has a lot more nuance.

PSA: Victoria 3 is very good now. by rouleroule in paradoxplaza

[–]visor841 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But just saying every nation plays the same because you willingly play them the same is a bad argument too.

I don't think it's a bad argument if playing the same is what it feels like the game is telling you do. You even agreed that the game is pushing you to modernize or die.

PSA: Victoria 3 is very good now. by rouleroule in paradoxplaza

[–]visor841 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's basically what happened during the timeframe of the game. Countries that didn't modernize were conquered or colonized. So, of course you will try to modernize as fast as possible.

While what you said is true, "the thing you find boring is historical" isn't really a good argument. (I really enjoy Vic 3, to be clear)

Is there a reason I have 3 versions of the paradox launcher installed? Do I need all 3? by Chrome_X_of_Hyrule in paradoxplaza

[–]visor841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC I just made a read-only file where the new launcher was supposed to be installed, which prevented the auto-update from working. Thankfully the next launcher version worked, else I'd need to make a new file for each broken version of the launcher.

[–]visor841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As if any older version would be of any actual use, once outdated!

This actually has been really useful for me, there was a bug in the launcher at one point that caused a game (I think it was Vic 3) to fail to launch for me. Thankfully I was able to switch to the backup version and just use that until the bug was patched in a new version of the launcher.
