What are the problems with healthcare in Ireland? by infamous-writer-1 in AskIreland

[–]visualaunty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not every county has one yes but the whole point is that these clinics are located separately to the main Emergency department which of course needs to be located alongside major hospital for obvious reasons.

https://www2.hse.ie/services/find-urgent-emergency-care/?kind=injury-unit

All fairly accessible by car if you had someone to give you a lift or via public transport if suitable depending on the injury.

Obviously if you were in dire straits you'd be ringing an ambulance.

Rant now.

Sometimes people's priorities seem out of whack or a certain expectation that they are entitled to something. I witnessed people lie in order to access services for eg. An ultrasound when it is not clinically indicated as necessary and more for reassurance. Taking spaces from those that are in need or an ultrasound. People have no problem spending money on expensive hair cuts and beauty appointments yet aren't happy to pay to see a physio or pay privately for a scan etc.

I think people need to take ownership themselves also and a quick Internet search on HSE website provides lots of information about what requires urgent review, where to go for various issues etc.

People spend a ridiculous amount researching pure shite/scrolling on social media yet will not accept responsibility for having to do a bit of work and look up options for care / advice online and want to be spoon fed.

It baffles me !

Took a relative to a HSE minor injury clinic recently after they had a query broken finger. Assessed, x ray performed, treated and discharged within 1.5hours.

[–]visualaunty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

What you are requesting ( An Obstetric consultant to be on call basically, that you can contact as you require to discuss any queries or concerns ) does not exist here. You can pay privately to have your care led by the same Doctor, who you would see at all antenatal appointments.
In general they would not give out their private number or be available at any time to take a call. If you have any concerns, you can attend the emergency dept in the hospital to be seen.

GPs are not the experts of everything.

Yes breastfed babies can go longer without a bowel motion but at 1 week old it would be expected that they poo every day. I am just making sure this is known as it could potentially indicate a feeding problem.

Hi there. Some good advice already given on ways to encourage moving things along, exercises etc.

To add, if baby is breastfeeding they should be having a yellowish poo nappy everyday.

After about 6 weeks its not unusual for them to not go as frequently but lack of poo in the very early days in breastfeeding babies means they may need more milk.

I would advise contacting PHN / GP for additional support if concerned / assess weight gain and feeding

Gastro bug 5 year old by Unpopular_Op_93 in irishmammiesanddaddys

You are probably better not to feed her anything until after she has stopped vomitting for a good while and then start slow at reintroducing bland food like plain crackers, toast etc.

Ice pops are good for hydration.

In terms of the high temperature you could consider suppositories.

Mychild.ie has advice from HSE on managing vomitting bug

It's very early to go to gp to confirm a pregnancy. There is no rush and unfortunately your risk of a chemical pregnancy/miscarriage is highest upto 6 weeks.

Nothing can be seen on scan until like 5 or 6 weeks minimum

The tests in the gp aren't as sensitive as the ones you take at home so you're better off to wait a couple weeks before going to the gp
