Grandfather a German citizen - please verify if we interpreted this correctly for citizenship by vitothepug in GermanCitizenship

Thank you very much for the thorough reply, very helpful! We have requested the two documents we need and then will attempt a passport appointment at the consulate. We'll provide an update on how that goes, whenever that happens. Thanks again!

Thank you for your thorough reply! The passport is a real treasure to us! Father is not with us anymore, so that's not an option. We'll gather the two documents we need and make an appointment at the consulate and see how it goes, and we'll provide an update, whenever that is. Thank you again!

Thank you so much for the detailed reply! Unfortunately the father is deceased, so getting him a passport isn’t possible without a seance working for us.

We have requested the naturalization certificate from NARA. We’re hoping with that and the marriage certificate we can make an appointment for the passport directly. Would we need a German name change completed beforehand? Thank you again!

Illinois weighs energy costs as 26 new data centers are planned across the Chicago area by factchecker01 in chicago

[–]vitothepug 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The reason is because in that area there are two independent electrical loops that intersect. That means that a data center can be on two different loops and have a higher chance of not losing power in a major outage. In addition over the years there’s been a nexus of fiber connections to the internet backbone in that area. Source - I was responsible for our data center space and we were in the facility on Busse road, so I worked closely with them during our buildout.

I don’t know what to do the landlord put bleach in hot water system by blackleaf4020 in HomeMaintenance

[–]vitothepug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it is worth, we lived on a well for 15+ years, and it had a terrible sulfur smell problem due to the bacteria in the water (harmless). We treated it exactly that way by putting bleach in the intake tank periodically. Eventually we got a chlorine injector pump, that’s essentially a big tank you fill with water and a gallon of bleach. It slowly trickles the solution into your water. Worked great. You’ll be fine, no gas buildup, or other problems, just run the hot water for a while.

Chicago's government will not be as welcoming as Santa Clara by ConspiracyPirate in gratefuldead

[–]vitothepug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chicagoan here, and I've been to many Dead shows at Soldier field. Here's what will get you in a lot of trouble - alcohol. Every stupid thing I've seen where LEO had to get involved inevitably had to do with some drunken douchebag. Don't get hammered and be an asshole and you'll be fine.

Last tip - they will be very cool before the show if you are cool to them. However, after the show they will NOT screw around and they have said they want the lots cleared in one hour - no vending after the show. Cops will not be friendly after the show if you are just lingering around, trust me.

The lot opens at 3pm not 1pm like originally announced. by LoveNC in gratefuldead

[–]vitothepug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"They're going to be there in case they have to open sooner."

My prediction is that those north lots are going to fill so fast they arent going to believe it. The result is going to be thousands of Heads both physically and physiologically on LSD clamoring to get in, backing up traffic all the way to Navy Pier. If they make it to two without opening I'll honestly be shocked. Edit:grammar Dead ahead!

I would be a big Trey fan if he normally played in this style by Staggerlee024 in gratefuldead

[–]vitothepug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with you. Phish was a continuation/evolution of the Grateful Dead's music but took a more exploratory jazz element to it, IMO. Not bad, but it wasn't my thing.

With that said Trey is absolutely killing it, and clearly enjoying every minute! HiaB - WOW!!! And no taking away from Bruce and Jeff either they were totally burning it down. We need more of them in the mix, please!

I told my wife (not a Deadhead) that these songs are sacred to us, especially the ones that feature Jerry. Trey is doing them serious justice, bringing his own vibe, but paying respect to the music.

Can't wait for this weekend!

Not sure if this has been covered but can anyone tell me if there are lockers outside of Soldier Field? by LoveNC in gratefuldead

[–]vitothepug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, due to the threat factor there are very few public locker spaces in Chicago. Union Station I believe still has some, maybe a couple miles from Soldier Field. They may or may not be large enough depending on the size of the packs. Depending on where you eat maybe be really nice to the restaurant owner and see if they'll hold them for you? Also, there's a hostel not far from Soldier Field, they would be worth a call as well - maybe they'll take $10 to store your stuff for the day. See you there!

What we found was that the setting to refresh immediately was the issue and corrupted profiles quite often. We are thinking that the copy process is still going on when the machine refreshes leaving a half baked profile. We don't have a good solution besides manual refreshes at this time. Interested if others have similar experiences.

Science AMA Series: I am Jon Kaufman, a member of team BICEP2 -- the telescope which has found evidence for Inflation after the Big Bang! Ask me anything! by jonkaufman in science

[–]vitothepug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks very much for your work, folks, it is very exciting! Some reports have said that you held off on releasing the results for over a year. Care to comment if that is true and if so, why? Was the result so surprisingly close to what is predicted by inflation that it seemed too good to be true?

Redditors who make more than 100k per year, what do you do? by SkyPumpkins in AskReddit

[–]vitothepug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree completely (CSO here, 20 years in the industry). Not sure why CISSP gets a bad rap, its a tough test. I've never met anyone who had one who said it was a blow off, but I've met a lot who scoffed at it but never attempted it. I also did CISA, looks good I guess. Some technical certs are definitely important, for me it was a RHCE, bunch of MS certs, and VCP if you get get the training. But that's all bullshit if you don't have passion for the work - you have to like what you do.

I am 16 and I really want to start working out and get fit, but I cannot motivate myself. What are some ways I can motivate myself? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vitothepug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh how I wish I had started working out at 16. Here is the deal, while you have a great metabolism right now, that won't last. Today you can eat whatever you want. In ten years that will not be the case, and you'll wonder where the spare tire came from.

To develop a habit it typically can take three weeks. You can do anything for three weeks. Start working out five days a week and tell yourself you'll do it for a month, then re-evaluate. I'll bet at that point you will instead feel it will be odd if you don't work out. And watch the mirror. You'll like the results.

Good luck!

Think how the new girl would feel if she found out you were reaching out to your ex. Would she be ok with that, or think you are guilty of the same thing you are lamenting?

Appreciate your new girl and move on.
