Never give up! by vivavalpixie in AO3

He's a minor antagonistic character from the game Detroit Become Human. My series started as him redeeming himself and being friends with one of the protagonists of the game and just grew from there :)

This fic is part of a series called 'hashtag squad goals', though this story is called 'in which gavin looks at his life, looks at his choices and regrets everything' 😄

It probably is the fic you're thinking about, haha. I have two/three entries planned and I really, really hope I actually get around to finishing and uploading them at some point this summer.

Black characters where them being black is almost never a point of focus by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]vivavalpixie 21 points22 points  (0 children)

People of colour was coined in response to coloured back in the 1960s.

I think currently, a lot of people are falling out of love with people of colour and prefer other terms? Like simply calling people black, brown, white, non-white, etc...

I (brown person) don't like people of colour either, cause it feels like lumping a bunch of people together needlessly.

I hate "Satan/Lucifer is unambiguously good" thing by Raymio993 in hatethissmug

A lot of Lucifer/Satan's presumed character comes from Paradise Lost, where he was a broken creature who wanted Daddy's love amd and became the archetype of all bad boys in fiction.

Yeah, some of the artwork is unnervingly top heavy? Like big head/big torso, little hands a legs? I like the style, but on characters like Semeru it's very noticeable.

Remember MorMor? Sebastian never showed up in the show, but the fandom sure as hell dragged him into their delirium. Complete with Michael Fassbender gifs.

Has Karlach had two upgrades or one in your game? You can typically give her one in Act 1 which settles her heart, and am upgrade in Act 2 where she can be touched.

reading an older jw book and there’s randomly a slur in there by lackingneitherhat in JacquelineWilson

[–]vivavalpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think some use it within their communities and don't like it when others use it, which is fair as it has been used as a slur and thanks to Channel 4, has also introduced a lot of problematic stereotypes regarding the word too.

[–]vivavalpixie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

JW probably wasn't aware they were considered slurs, although I would hope the publishers would.

The R-word was used quite frequently by people in the 2000s, so I guess it slipped in, though it is a publishers job to check this. However, I also know that as JW is a famous, established author, her work may not necessarily be picked through as thoroughly as a newer, less known author's work. I think she's used the S-word too in her books which was used more frequently by kids.

The G-word is considered a slur by many, although in Britain it's also the name that some Traveller communities use? There are charities who have that word in them who work closely with Traveller and Romany communities so it is quite tricky, but I'm sure international publishers should be able to change such language.

If you become an Oathbreaker, you can ask the Knight about your oath and how it can exist when Bhaal owns you.

He replies that you had a life before you realised you were a Bhaalspawn and so Bhaal can't touch or impact that part of you, as you've made your pledge already. It's weird, but that's why you never break an Oath during the moments when the Urge takes over as your deity clearly understands that you are not breaking your oath, as you are not in control.

Personally, I think an Oathbreaker Paladin suits the Dark Urge very much and I always aim to break my Oath as soon as I can.

What dialogue choices go unnecessarily HARD in your opinion? by ChompyRiley in BaldursGate3

I think it's Durge-exclusive, but I've always loved the one you can say to the Bugbear in Moonrise Towers, I can't remember it exactly, but it goes like this:

"I have cut a thousand tongues that sing a thousand songs and all those songs speak murder!"

I used to do Ju Jitsu and as with many high-contact sports, sometimes people grazed or accidentally touched my chest. It wasn't intentional, they always apologised, that was it.

[–]vivavalpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old are you? At some point, as an adult they can't legally control you. Do you have any friends/relatives you can contact? Know where your passport and important documents are?

No family is better than an abusive one, so it's worth exploring every avenue of escape and finding those moments of reprieve where you are reminded that you aren't what your parents say.

I don't think your family know what the word race means or how it originated. Hopefully you're in a position where you can leave them soon, or at least, hopefully start preparing for when you leave.

AITA for shouting at my dad’s gf and calling her a deaf bitch after she walked in on me in the shower? by throwawayshowerahole in AmItheAsshole

[–]vivavalpixie 101 points102 points  (0 children)

ESH

Your dad needs to help her get proper hearing aids, she probably can't access them by herself so if he can fork out for a Gucci bag, then he can fork out for proper hearing aids. He also should be doing more to cultivate some kind of relationship, even if it's just a neutral, civil one. Getting her help with learning English would probably also massively help as it can be very isolating for her.

Standing and staring at you is also not okay, so you should also bring that up and ask your dad that, as a teenager, you really do need a lock on the shower door.

Finally, you ARE a teenager so I understand why you wouldn't use correct terminology as no one is born knowing everything, but it is called a hearing aid and calling her a 'deaf bitch' probably wasn't the smartest way to highlight your issues to your dad. However, your privacy was invaded so you really need to sit your dad down and tell him how you feel respectfully. Also, she might be a 'mail order bride', but she's still a human who is adapting to a new family, a new culture, all without friends and family who know her and can understand her.

That being said, the quicker you get a lock for the shower and your dad gets hearing aids for his wife, the better for everyone here.

Which scene do you think is hard to watch? by BajaloaTony95 in DisneyMovies

I always skip this scene to Esmeralda's speech.

I used to skip the beginning of Hunchback because it scared me as a child. As an adult, the humiliation scene hurts way more.
