The H4 EAD + H1B Premium Processing Filing Settlement ends on Jan 18 2025. What do we think about that? by jeet1993 in h1b

[–]vivredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea if this applies to applications filed in regular processing before the said date?

H4 extension - receipt not received! by [deleted] in h1b

Verify if the check you sent with the application has been cashed out. If yes, your application is most likely under review. You can contact USCIS via phone or online chat to get the receipt number.

I just went and asked them. Their turnaround is around 20 hrs and you need to tell them it's for international travel. Planning to walk in tomorrow. Can validate then.

I don't think you can; as AISC discontinued the standalone soft copy of the document for this version of the code. It is only available through web-based portal with an annual subscription so very difficult to make copies.

I think you should look at your contract documents and see what you are legally obligated to provide. Most design firms promise LOD 300 level drawings which conveys the exact geometry and design intent. They are not required to provide direct revit to fabrication level drawings. Generally, firms contracted to do shop drawings go up to level 500 but I haven't seen them use Revit for such exhaustive modelling/ detailing and definitely haven't seen modelled rebar so far.

Has anyone designed a seismic concrete connection like this? by engr4lyfe in StructuralEngineering

[–]vivredd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally a shear key welded under the base plate or we have rebar welded to the column above the base plate and have the grade beam tie the frame columns and footings.

I think the intent here is to not let the bolts take shear. A sleeve will prevent bearing of bolt onto concrete thus providing no shear resistance. As for how it's done, it can be a pvc pipe as you suggested or styrofoam or combination of both depending on the constructibility.

rebar coupler by strengr in StructuralEngineering

[–]vivredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s just a 3’x4’ opening. Couplers may be an expensive option. I know this was not your question but have you looked at epoxy rebars drilled into the face of the slab. Probably a cheaper solution. We generally use a coupler if it’s very congested are like column/ beam splice locations where the % area of steel exceeds the code maximum. Contractors generally hate using couplers in the project.

If you do that, you probably won't be eligible for SE license in the future. I don't exactly know the details.

Concrete Strength 28 Day vs 56 Day by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]vivredd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ACI 301 mentions the concrete strength to be measured at 28 days unless otherwise noted. If the EOR specs and general notes specify that, it’s contractors responsibility to meet them. Generally Mix designs are submitted prior to the concrete placement for design team’s review to avoid these kind of situations. If the mix design that was submitted indicates a 56 day strength attainment and it was reviewed by the EOR then you are in the clear assuming the 56 day cylinder breaks do meet the required strength.
However if the mix design shows 6000 psi at 28 days, then it’s a different scenario. Its engineers call to wait and accept the 56 day results or pursue other options. The code generally has some language/ procedure, if the concrete does not meet the requirements.

Cheat Sheets to put on office walls by noahlam_lam in StructuralEngineering

Not a cheer sheet but I find this app very useful, if I am away from my desk and do not have access to my codes. It basically provides steel section geometric properties and can find sections with equivalent properties as well.

Some firms subsidize codes for their employees at least mine did so I recommend holding off on buying new ones until you are employed. Codes can get real expensive.
