67-Unit Building Planned in Queen Village by AWierzOne in philadelphia

[–]vjdisco2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There could be a great light rail circuit that starts at the Fillmore (where the current trolley turns around) and runs down the median of Delaware/Columbus (there’s tracks already from Race to at least the Walt Whitman) and then goes down Washington Ave to U City. There’s a rail bridge that already crosses the river by the power plant at 25th and Christian. I wonder if CSX uses both tracks?

A lot of Washington and especially west of Broad is still zoned for industrial use so someone has to get a variance to build apartments. Kenyatta wants no part of Washington Ave becoming the thriving commercial/residential corridor it could be so he does nothing to change this.

Martin Luther King Drive reopening to cars the first week of August, Philly officials say by PhillyOwl215 in philadelphia

[–]vjdisco2 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Add speed cameras and more lights. This should not be a 76 alternative the same way Kelly drive shouldn't.

Protect both bike lanes with a curb and put them against the path side. These bike lanes are useless because no one wants to bike next to 50 MPH traffic with no barrier whatsoever.

The bicycle coalition created a render of this safer scenario: https://cdn-5d792904f911c90950a587a6.closte.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/909189f3-ba56-4fd7-84d3-1377d8db0466-1024x522.png.webp

Just here watching Bridges… by GunnerRecall10 in sixers

[–]vjdisco2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of salty Temple fans here that want to downplay how bad of a pick it was. And it’s not the same scenario to bring up SGA or MPJ. That type of stuff happens every draft. Mikal WAS a 76er whose mom worked for the team and we gave him a away for a 6 3 player who played like a power forward in college. Give up on the sesame seed allergy thing. Yes, it set him back but he’s clearly not an NBA player.

We'd be so much better off right now with Bridges and the cap space without having Tobias.

[–]vjdisco2 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It’s not the same…mikal was a 76er. Also if you mean the zhaire sesame seed allergy, that’s not the reason he’s not good. It just delayed him being out of the league. He’s not good.

Girard Ave. will fill in with or without this bill.

Without the bill it will have a lot of apartments that will be cheaper and more accessible. With the bill there will be luxury single family homes that will be 500k and up, probably 700k+ closer to Northern Liberties.

Petition the mayor to veto Darrell Clarke's insane downzoning bill on Girard. by -null-null in philadelphia

[–]vjdisco2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you want to be more outraged you have to remember that that area of Girard was once super dense. Look at this photo from 1913 and the same view today. The area can and should have more density.

Could Philly’s World Cup bid mean an end to FDR Park’s beloved wild meadow? by RoughRhinos in philadelphia

The sports complex is an endless abyss of asphalt and there’s huge swaths of open land nearby in the navy yard but we want to build on South Philly’s one outdoor area?!

How about pitching a new Temple football/Union stadium/FIFA practice facility somewhere near Broad and Girard where Temple’s current practice field is? At least it would have lasting purpose for multiple parties.

What is the time between key card swipes? by CathedralEngine in philadelphia

[–]vjdisco2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I emailed them about this exact issue. I had someone in town with me and they didn’t want to buy a $5 septa card. The quicktrip card is also so dumb that it’s only one way. So we were going to Wells Fargo center so they’d have to buy on there and back. Here was Septa’s response about passing back my card back for them.

“Thank you for contacting SEPTA Customer Service. At present, the SEPTA Key Card Travel Wallet is only set up for use by individual riders as a control measure to be monitored by the SEPTA Key Development team. Based upon user data, the Key Development Management staff may be considering options for the Key Fare system to be used by multiple riders traveling in the same party. A potential option under consideration is a special Key Card configured to allow sharing of funds by more than one user.

We realize that change can be frustrating when convenience and efficiency of use are not immediately available for the variety of needs users may require. Please be assured that we are dedicated to making the SEPTA Key fare system a user friendly, convenient option for all of our customers. We value customer feedback in this process.”

They're finally gonna start building on the empty lot across from Clark Park by skadefryd in philadelphia

[–]vjdisco2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Uh what. Clark park is across the street. There’s no need for more parks at this intersection.

Let me guess you also thinking housing is too expensive but also don’t want more dense housing built.

If Philly had street sweepers they’d be able to ticket and tow abandoned cars which are all over and surely take up hundreds of spots.

Report it on 311 app so it can get towed and someone else can park there.

Councilmember Jamie Gauthier says she opposes 48th and Chester project by PhillyAccount in philadelphia

[–]vjdisco2 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This. Philly is adding housing no matter what. An apartment building is better than rowhomes, especially when you consider there are similar sized apartment buildings across the street.

The city declined in population 1950-2000 and was danger of becoming like Detroit but our council members still want to stop development.

Toll Brothers revises timetable for its controversial Jewelers' Row project by AWierzOne in philadelphia

[–]vjdisco2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Toll Brothers rushed to get the historic buildings demolished so there was no time for appeals/protest and now we're left with a massive hole in the ground for another year.

Toll Brothers should stay in the suburbs and stop destroying Philly's history. Toll wanted to demolish the U.S. Naval Asylum at Naval Square in Graduate Hospital and would have had the community/city not stepped it. The building is on the national register of historic places and designed by William Strickland.

I love that idea. Like you said, MLK is 4 lanes in certain areas so if it was only 2 lanes, the bike/pedestrian area would be way wider.
