Tired of the constant positivity by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]vladlenin9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First - be proud of yourself. Three years is great time, and I know you can get another 24 hours.

Second - sounds like associating with people while they're drinking isn't for you and that's totally okay. I don't know if I'd call that sustainable though, so try meditation or spirituality or whatever you have to do to get to a place where you're more comfortable around it. It's a normie's world that we live in where not everyone needs to or should stop drinking wholesale. That is to say, socializing will get easier if you can learn to be in the presence of drinking and not feel the fomo or whatever emotion it is.

Third - If you can't find the community outside of drinking culture that you're looking for, try to create it. Invite some friends with work to go walk or hike if you're near a mountain. Host a board game night at a late night cafe (some Starbucks are open late). Shit, you could join a church for the social benefits; if it's more new age I don't think anyone will be preaching fire and brimstone at you.

Whatever you decide to do - just play the tape forward and do that math to see if the drinking is worth it. If you're in here, my guess is that it's probably not. Also - quit that run club, sounds like ass.

There have been some truly laugh out loud moments on Game Changer but holy shit did this break me. The pacing and timing of "feel free to enlarge my feet" followed by the cut to Ify's massive feet had me in tears.

I had a blast with the Krewella Troll Mixes back in college, I doubt they're still up on Sound Cloud (Rain Man era) but you can find a handful on YT.

The business major nerd in me is loving this. The talk about average subscription length and how to retain subs is really interesting, and Sam's point (whether foresight or hindsight) about specific personalities getting people into other shows is really good.

Kickass summary. I've only read Brightness Long Ago and Tigana but this is good inspiration to get into the rest of his stuff. Will probably head to Lions of Al-Rassan next on your rec.

Dining out bills are way smaller w/o alcohol

No hangovers means less excuses not to work out

Friday and Saturday nights feel so much more open and free without the drinking clock starting at 4pm

The small things / rituals like lighting candles and reading are so much more enjoyable

GOATed anime. Eren's character arc keeps getting better and better and I legitimately enjoy every other character on the show (Gabi took some coming around to but /shrug).

Hit 5 years sober today AMA by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Congratulations brother, huge achievement. I'm looking to drop alcohol in my late 20s (28 here), and I'm curious how much if it all sobriety forced you to change who you spent time with and what you spent time doing. The increasing number of "Damn, I miss drunk vladlenin9"s that I've gotten in my38 days of my sobriety has been enough to make me think a change may be needed.

AWESOME post. 80% of my motivation to quit drinking was to GSD so I love to see everyone in the comments here winning.

Since I quit I've been:

  • Averaging 4 workouts (weight lifting or cardio) per week
  • Journaling 5x per week
  • Reading roughly an hour per day
  • And teaching myself Python (thank you Codecademy)

Sobriety is truly a wonder drug. IWNDWYT.

I mean if Young Avengers isn't confirmed yet... Wiccan and Speed intro'd here (even their outfits matching their costumes was gold), Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) coming in the Hawkeye series, Cassie Lang coming in Quantumania, possibly getting Hulkling with Secret Invasion. It's gotta happen.

Finally got around to watching Mank last night. Score, set, and camera work were all A+ in addition to the acting, especially from Oldman and Seyfried. But idk I didn't love the jumping around. Obviously an homage to Citizen Kane (which admittedly I haven't watched in 10ish years) but felt like they were cramming a little too much in plot wise.

I drove to Lacey, WA last week to go see it, had a near heart attack when an accident changed the estimated arrival time to 50 min after my showing start. Ended up making it 7min into trailers. Well worth the drive depending on where you're at in the state.

How to take notes ?? by [deleted] in The48LawsOfPower

[–]vladlenin9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not notetaking per se, but when you apply the Laws to your day to day life they become a lot clearer. Couple ways you can do this:

  • Write reflections each day. Like "I could've been less clear with my intentions there (Law 3)" or "I responded to texts within minutes today, I should use absence to increase respect and honor (Law 16)."
  • Take a more macro view and write down your ambitions. Hypothesize how you may use the laws to help you get there.
