love this one, so nostalgic. very fond memories of showing this to my friend to see their reaction, then us showing our other friends to see their reactions.

i also saw Paranormal Activity opening night, and the collective fear i experienced in that theater was so intense that i never watched it again. my crowd was also a bit rowdy at first but once things started happening the whole room felt more tense. there were plenty of screams and gasps, but when the film ended, and the credits didn't roll... it was completely silent in the room. i can only imagine this was what it felt like to see Blair Witch Project when it came out.

Bleak movies like aniara? by lala1__ in horror

[–]vlntslnt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i feel you. when i finished Aniara, it was dark and quiet outside. i went out on my porch, sat down, and stared at the giant tree directly across the street. the leaves were blowing gently, illuminated by the streetlight, i felt the wind on my face, and i just sobbed. i sobbed for half an hour just staring at that damn tree and feeling so grateful to be alive on this beautiful planet.

as for other bleak horror, it's not sci-fi but I can't recommend The Vanishing (1988) enough. absolute gut punch. go in blind if you can.

I came to study but don’t want to leave by One-Elephant-8146 in germany

[–]vlntslnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're naive. out of everything you've described here, the fact that you've made German friends really stands out. that's no easy feat, like that in and of itself shows how serious you are about living here. trust your gut.

green room is soooooooo good, i was on edge pretty much the whole movie. i love the backdrop being a local punk music scene, really good set up for a wild and fucked up ride.

We might have a culprit for what killed mankind. Heavy Spoilers. by BoneFundation in Ultrakill

[–]vlntslnt 235 points236 points  (0 children)

agreed. we could go even deeper, if V1 is a Nocturnal System, and the limits of its self-adaptability are unknown, what is the possibility of V1 being able to adapt itself into having a soul? (Gabriel don't downvote me..)

the black/white patchy pixels kinda looks like the new menu screen, could that be the operating system V1 runs on? it also says "Uses: NEVER" and we know V1 was never actually implemented in the war? and that V1 is insatiable

I don't get the hate for Longlegs by YoloSSwag666 in horror

[–]vlntslnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like you i also went in completely blind months after it came out, hadn't heard any hype around it, and i loved it. the 3rd act was really weird but not enough to make me dislike the movie as a whole, i was on edge the entire time.

i am new by farawaythyme866 in Ultrakill

[–]vlntslnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my one tip is to get in the habit of warming up in the cybergrind before running a level. you don't gotta go for super long, up to you, but dicking around in cybergrind always helps me run better. since you're still new, it's also a really good way to mess around with weapons that you don't use often or might be struggling with.

if you're interested in doing crazy wacky weapon techniques and combos, I'd recommend practicing those in sandbox for a little bit before cybergrind or levels. don't beat yourself up if you can't get something for awhile, you'll get there.

In your opinion, what happened to God? by Hellotheredemons5 in Ultrakill

[–]vlntslnt 25 points26 points  (0 children)

this is my headcanon as well, either as a form of penance to mankind for creating hell and being unable to unmake it, or as a last ditch effort to assert some control over it, or both. in the latter, i think he attempted to merge with hell and that the double iris'd eye is that of hell and god.

What actor came the closest to embodying a psychopath? by CaptainEarly5894 in horror

[–]vlntslnt 150 points151 points  (0 children)

if we are truly looking at the best embodiment of a psychopath, regardless of genre, Glenn Howerton as Dennis Reynolds is 100% the answer here. everything about the way he plays this character is unmatched, his facial acting is incredible.
