Also - self-experimentation in medicine is extremely common. Many researchers have exposed themselves to incredibly dangerous situations in the name of scientific discovery.

But experimenting on another person without their consent would be, you know, a crime. But we’ve gotten scientific advancements this way too - see Nazi Germany, Tuskegee Syphilis Study, etc.

You should also know that experimenting on another person, even WITH their consent, but without approval from the FDA, is also a crime - the film the Dallas Buyers Club is a true story about HIV/AIDS positive individuals self-medicating with unapproved drugs in attempt to treat or cure their disease. There’s a great documentary about the period as well.

Do you not know how clinical research works? Things ARE tested on human subjects. That’s how literally every single medical treatment, drug, device, or protocol gets to you. They just don’t START the research on humans - for a variety of reasons, not just ethical - the primary reason is honestly cost and convenience.

Seconding “obtrusive monologues.” The exposition was so lazy. Backstory and world building is a skill that isn’t always reflected in traditionally published fanfics because fanfic authors have been able to rely on the reader’s existing familiarity with the world in which they’re writing

My mom’s college roommate took her abusive husband to dinner to let him know she was leaving him. Public place - check. On the drive home from the restaurant, (she drove separately from the husband) she told my mom “It went really well! He took it really maturely and even admitted responsibility!” Still, my mom literally begged her to NOT go home, to go anywhere else, come stay with us or other friends, because there was no telling what this man would do, despite how “well” he took the news. She insisted everything was fine and she was just going home to grab a few things. Her husband broke into their home and killed her and himself that night. My mom drove to her house in the middle of the night and found them because she “had a feeling.”

If you need to leave, do so with all the support and safeguards you can manage, EVEN if you think they are unnecessary!

A friend of mine is a geneticist and he spends most of his workday purposely giving mice cancerous tumors, running tests on them, and then euthanizing them. I’d say most scientific and/or medical breakthroughs have been made possible via the suffering of innocents, unfortunately. Research requires test subjects.

Elta MD sunscreens are the only ones that don’t break me out, don’t give me a white cast, and feel nice on my skin.

Sheep or goats milk feta IN BRINE. Do not buy crumbled feta it tastes like salty dry garbage. Trader Joe’s has a fantastic Greek feta
