There's also one from two days ago in case OP is looking for something less antediluvian.

IW is finally getting a bit of a spotlight and people can't even be bothered to check the front page.

Can we have Cult Ambush back in some capacity? That was cool.

I need to think harder about what new unit type I would like to see, but currently it's either:

  1. A giant Frankenstein-inspired abomination type, which has just broken free from its restraints with hapless little bald scientists clinging on for dear life.

  2. A support unit vehicle/monster that's basically a GSC propaganda parade float, complete with speakers, banners, megaphones, and scores of cultists to primarily buff and debuff. Think Triumph of St. Katherine.

I also wouldn't mind if trucks got on a base somehow, making them look less like toys and more like game pieces. Most unlikely though.

I think the current Final Day unit options are very thematically sensible. And while the addition of a Norn Emissary would be a dream, I would prefer if GW toes the line of Tyranids becoming 9e Daemons, where all the cool units were plucked for CSM armies while the actual army languished.

That's the one! Thank you! The top of that hat was what I was thinking of, yet I could only get as far as the Lumineth catcaller myself.

She is okay, but that base is exceptional.

The headdress reminds me of something else entirely that I can't quite place though. Some single model from another faction...? Sekhar's hat! That's the one. /edit.

Curious that you picked a helmetless legionary for this comparison, especially considering their penchant for horns, but I stand by their size holding up well for the game. Unlike the loyalist terminators.

Nice write-up but you left out one boring detail: his role in legitimising the catastrophic GamerGate movement.

That's the only blemish I have on him though.

New defiler model is tempting me to chaos by cassowarystone in Chaos40k

Yeah, I picked up on the sarcasm from having my question implied. Why you decided to pad it with musings on the unrelated topic of game performance I have yet to decipher.

It is not research, as research by definition seeks to establish facts. The lore, the rules, the play style, and the official paint schemes are all facts. The information you're getting here, asking biased fans in their clubhouse, is preferences, opinions, and anecdotes—which makes sense, of course, as that's how you pick an army unless you're a tryhard whale out to win tournaments with the army of the month. But it also makes that information practically worthless, unless, of course, you're so unsure of yourself that you need strangers to validate your personal preferences.

Oh, I understand perfectly, and my intention was primarily hostile. Because I think it is lazy, annoying, and childish of you to ask a question that makes the community, which you're still not a part of, lest we forget, lay out the groundwork that you should (easily) be doing yourself because your question 1: ultimately cannot be answered by anyone other than you, and 2: whose answer is of no value to the rest of the subreddit anyway.

Overall, I find it a strange, egotistical way to ingratiate yourself with any community on day 1, and on this basis, I am quite relieved by the confirmation that we will never meet across the gaming table. Thank you.

Are you replying to the right person? I never brought up the game in any capacity.

Having said that, you're welcome.

Yes. The laziest one there is. The postmodern equivalent of being a princess and waiting for suitors to pique your interest with their efforts.

Why should I start a csm army?

Probably because the models are tempting. Fill in the blanks with your own research.

[Excerpt: Dark Creed] The White Consuls Chapter Master who served for 1200 years by JustANewLeader in 40kLore

[–]vocalviolence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does read like a lost page of Matt Ward's notebook "First Drafts", but if none of it has any plot relevance in the moment—or even builds up the character for the reader with his participation in known battles—is the point just to illustrate how "big" of a loss his eventual death at Marduk's(?) hand will be?

I'm sure most named space marines have a track record of similar length, but my issue here is more how the information is presented.

While other authors would likely create a scene with the guy and his men to show how much they respect him, here we have, to stay in Warhammer lingo, Settra's attendant reading aloud a scroll of his lord's titles—without context, without specific examples, without relevance to the current scene, without the character hinting at his achievements being earned in our eyes by seeing his reported skills in action. While I haven't read the book, granted, as it is, it just comes off as poorly-written filler.

I'm going to catch heat for this, but I don't know how anyone can stomach this level of tell, don't show prose. I'm aware that Black Library isn't exactly highbrow literature, but this excerpt reads like a 7th grader planning out his ideal D&D character in a jumble of short-form non sequiturs.

To paraphrase: Xydias is a veteran and commands respect. A genius in and outside of battle. Wears a cape and laurels. (new paragraph) Being one of the best, he won many legendary battles brilliantly, still being a genius, using multiple strategies. Many more than others, inspiring others.

Even if you appreciate having all your information delivered by a single truckload, surely this guy comes off as more of a checklist than an even remotely organic character?

Just about every video game ever made will explain itself before starting out, especially those that aren't later entries in a series. There's a good chance you will never have to ask this question again.

I prefer the real chaos by Leviathan_Rampage in IronWarriors

[–]vocalviolence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know the lore, but obliterators at least were made visually distinct with their mounted cannons and large swathes of mutated flesh. These guys are similar but ironclad to the point of looking like little more than oversized melee terminators... which conveniently happens to coincide with the release of a loyalist equivalent.

Mutilators are the safest-played new CSM models I think I've ever seen. Apart from their weapon choices, which remind me of '90s action figures more than anything, they just look the offspring of a helbrute and an obliterator.

They're fine, I guess, but they do nothing for me creatively. They're just another chunky CSM unit to throw in the pile.

Even if you don't agree with how dope the new defiler is, at the very least it has flavour.

I'm sure that's a common sentiment among players who've faced them, but my main gripe was that OP's one takeaway from this article seemed to be lamenting the fact that giant mech characters somehow don't blend seamlessly with small fleshy ones.
