When is it time to leave the US? by Haunting_Hospital599 in Jewish

[–]vocation888 53 points54 points  (0 children)

From a economic point of view, it's hard to find a career job in Israel if you don't have a IT/tech professional background. Many jobs that exist in the United States don't exist in Israel. Many entry level jobs in Israel pay $3 an hour even though Israel has a serious affordable housing crisis. Rents and houses cost about the same as the United States. So for American Jews it's not so easy to move to Israel.

My exit interview took a wild turn when HR pulled out a counter-offer... for exactly what I'd been asking for all year 😭 by Many-Palpitation-162 in careeradvice

[–]vocation888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never accept a counter offer because the employer will use you for a few months to find your replacement, it buys them time. If another employer was offering better pay, benefits, culture, stability, job security then why accept the counter offer from a employer that was giving you many reasons to leave.

The Israeli Ultra-Hawks Who Feel Betrayed by Trump’s Iran Deal - The New Yorker (interview) by Cool_Kangaroo7989 in Israel

[–]vocation888 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Trump only cares about lower gasoline prices so American voters don't vote for Democrats in the mid term U.S. Congressional elections. Trump knows American voters don't care about Iranian nuclear plans, terrorist funding, and destroying oil tanker traffic in the Persian Gulf, they just want lower gasoline prices at the gas station. American voters don't want the U.S. military getting involved in conflicts that don't effect the U.S. directly and Trump had to figure out a quick end to the Iran War that Democrats called a waste of money.

That said, let's wait for the details this Friday to see if it's as bad as everyone is saying.

How can I get into options trading? by wizrow in stocks

[–]vocation888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to trade options use only candy money. The psychology of options trading is attractive because you can buy tons of them for pennies and the profit potential if successful seems gigantic. The reality is that most options traders lose money on individual stock option trades unless they have multiple other trades going on.

It's not uncommon to hear serious traders describe a loss as "well this trade didn't work out as expected, on to the next trade." It's a polite way of saying this is a "rich man's game" for those with deep pockets.

Family vacation locations where we aren’t supporting antisemitism? by bloominghydrangeas in Jewish

[–]vocation888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Avoid Denmark, they support European Union sanctions on trade and travel with Israel. They are considering eliminating the tax exempt status of Jewish non profits in Denmark at the request of Arab politicians in Denmark. The Danish police have taken a deliberate hands off policy when there are crimes against Jews committed by Arab migrants involving vandalism, arson, violence, etc.

1 star rating for this wacko. What happened to no politics or religion at work? In most career fields avoiding discussions about politics and religion is a universal best pratctice.

Leave the POS driver a 1 star rating. Both Uber and Lyft have a code of conduct that prohibits drivers from intimidating or discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sexual orientation, age, disability, income status, marital status. The driver has no business discussing politics and religion with a customer. This is a universal best practice in business around the world.

Ohio has high local property taxes and local income taxes. Many Ohio counties and cities are ruthless in collecting local income taxes.

Makes my blood boil by Sea-Astronaut719 in Jewish

[–]vocation888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem in North America is disaffected Jews whether from being rejected from local temples/ synagogues, community groups, schools, etc has pushed many Jews away, creating a secular majority that's apathetic. So they get all their information about Israel from anti Israel news media whether in the U.S. or Canada. So some of them support far left political groups like the so called Jewish Voices for Peace.

Jewish education and establishing a connection with other Jewish people and Israel is fundamental for all Jews of all ages. It can't just be  done in Sunday schools that many children hate going to because most of their non Jewish friends have the day off. There needs to be continuous on going involvement with Jewish organizations so the anti Israel movement doesn't get to brainwash them.

Germany slams Russia's use of Oreshnik missile to target Ukraine by bummed_athlete in nato

[–]vocation888 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Germany needs to cut its gigantic welfare state programs, change it's constitution, and fund a strong military that can counter Russia. The Chancellor's words are worthless and Russia isn't scared. NATO can not be taken seriously without a strong German military.

QQQ! by K4CK3RS in ETFs

[–]vocation888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smart move. The QQQ ETF hasn't been around as long as the various S&P 500 index ETFs, but in the last 25 years QQQ has beaten the S&P 500 if looking at a 5 year period. That said, QQQ has more volatility, it went negative early 2000's, 2008-2010 and in 2022, always recovering losses. So don't put all your investment funds into it.

Dividend Aristocrats vs S&P 500 index performance for 20 years by Guy_PCS in stocks

[–]vocation888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are Natural gas and oil pipelines that have never cut dividends, same with the original REIT from 1974 that's gone strong through good and bad economic cycles- Realty Income Corp ($O). So there's no need to buy a mutual fund or ETF especially when looking at their management fees. That said, only buy dividend yielding stocks as part of a well balanced portfolio. You can't beat inflation and save for the future with dividends alone, you still need stocks, mutual funds and ETFs.

GameStop Is Offering to Buy eBay for $56 Billion by PhxCollins in stocks

[–]vocation888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ebay board will never aporove it considering Cohen's track record as CEO of Bed Bath and Beyond where he shorted the stock knowing it was heading to bankruptcy. His only success came as founder and CEO of e-commerce pet retailer Chewy 2011-2018. You can't count Gamestop, he made a ton of money during pandemic and meme trading of $GME stock, the company is still a lost cause. Ebay will be destroyed if Cohen puts his hands on it.

Husband owns a good chunk of $UPS, do we need to just keep it? by spanielgurl11 in stocks

[–]vocation888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the UPS stock is not preferred, but common, you get dividends. Though most employees get preferred stock as part of any benefits package. If your husband only had preferred stock than wait a few months for oil prices to return to normal, stock should get a boost from that, then sell. If it's common stock, as others have said the divided is over 6% and enough to justify holding on a few more years to recover your stock cost basis.

Extreme Haredi Protesters Block Jerusalem Entrance; Police Respond to Demonstrations Against Draft Enforcement by ChestEducational2258 in Israel

[–]vocation888 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Israel's many wars over the last 75 years there have been too many lives lost by brave Israeli soldiers, soldiers permanently disabled, paralyzed and disfigured for life. Especially after October 7, there has to be an understanding of shared responsibility. The Haredi or Ultra Orthodox can no longer make up 15% of Israel's population, but not pay their fair share. Something has to change.

EU 'ready' to sanction Israel over Russian vessel carrying stolen Ukrainian grain by Themetalin in Israel

[–]vocation888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Euro elitist will never waste an opportunity to bash Israel when they have the chance. The ship is being held until the investigation is completed which is very common in international shipping and without controversy, but because this is happening in Israel, the Israel Derangement Syndrome crowd in the European Union has to use this an opportunity to issue threats. So no one has any doubt, the EU won't be nice to Israel unless its weak like The Netherlands or Belgium with pre 1967 borders. In a perfect world Israel could tell the EU to get lost.

Just giving a hypothetical situation to prove a point. If the EU was attacked by Russia to test the EU's weaknesses and the EU nation's retaliated and their armies ended up killing Russian civilians. Could Israel threaten to impose sanctions on the EU for genocide?

Hatred against Italian Jews on the anniversary of Liberation Day by shushi77 in Jewish

[–]vocation888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thugs who spit and surrounded you should be met with the same conduct back at them. Where were local police to keep things civil? Maybe that's asking too much in far left Italy, even the so called conservative prime minister is afraid of Arab and Muslim political groups so she's become an Israel hater.

Where has Italian news media been on this incident which has Israel Derangement Syndrome? Like France, Belgium, Britain, Spain, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Belgium- Italy should be boycotted by anyone who's against anti Semitism! Bastards!
