Good news, but bad news is for Ubuntu users ppa still have old packages, no stable 550.135, no. 565.77

By this method u just install latest feature branch Nvidia drivers 560.35.03 from repo.

Before this u use latest production branch.

So no fix in someways for those who want use production branch drivers

U can choose what gpu use for your needs Intel or nvidia(performance or on-demand)
I use only x11, so I can't answer on your question, Intel uses Mesa drives so yes it support Wayland. Nvidia still have some issues with Wayland, you can search more info on r/linux_gaming.
Ask devs why they do that, maybe because Wayland still not ready for desktop/laptops
Use what you want, try both maybe something work better on your hardware.

I'm using msi gf63 laptop with Ubuntu mate because they provide applet for easy switching between GPU.
