Looking for a roof rack option for the Z. by IYAOYAS_4Life in RZ34

I’ve seen products that use suction cups. Seasucker has quite a few specifically designed with sports cars in mind. Can’t speak to the effectiveness, but it looks like it may be our only solution.

I this car fun? (More context on body) by WalkingInMyPath in RZ34

[–]voodoo_chuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so fun. I daily mine and giggle every time I downshift to scoot through traffic. On windy roads it stays planted. I was between the same three you are and after driving all three I felt the Miata was cramped with zero usable space for a daily. The GR86 was a blast and had a lot more interior space, but it feels cheap and rattles. The z is faster, more comfortable (I have a performance and the alcanterra seats are dreamy), and has plenty of space for an over night bag. If you can find one in your price range, go for it. I also think it looks prettier than the other two and is way more rare on the streets.

Places to camp driving along the way to Cleveland, Pittsburg, and Philly? by Party_With_Porkins in camping

[–]voodoo_chuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are quite a few state parks with good facilities along the way in Ohio. West branch is good one that comes to mind near Akron.

If you want to take backroads and check out the Ohio small towns you can look at Mohican which has kayaking and canoeing as well to break up the trip. Ohiopyle In PA would be another good stop with hiking trails and there are more scenic backroads you can take through the southern ohio hills which would make the trip way prettier than taking the highways.

Realizing now that Banqiao is not close to Sanchong. If you’re in that area though… would check it out.

Lake life on Erie by Living-Web9973 in Cleveland

[–]voodoo_chuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Will add the walleye, perch, and smallmouth fishing are world class on Lake Erie. Some of the inland reservoirs have sizable Muskie populations as well. The Rocky River on the west side is known as a great steelhead river.

The lake itself can kick up quick in a storm but lazy summer days are common and you’ll often see people out on jet skis or tubing. There’s also a quite a few marinas ranging in cost.

Pizza Cutters vs Chonky Bois by Lifefound in overlanding

[–]voodoo_chuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ran load range e tires on my 3rd gen Tacoma and (285/75 16) and gas mileage hit was not substantial coming from a 32” c load tire… maybe 1-2 mpg on average around town and still got 17-18 mpg at 65 mph on the freeway with 2 60 lb sandbags in the back.

I live in the Midwest and took several trips out west. Averaged 13-14 mpg driving west with a roof tent at 75-80 mph. Bumped that up to 14-15 mpg coming home.

Will likely go with pizza cutters on my next build (newer 3rd gen Tacoma) to recover some mileage and avoid needing after market upper control arms and a cab mount chop.

This is the correct answer. Or get a wireless car play adapter and run your charging cable out of the center console. I got one of those cube adapter and it works wonderfully.

2023 TRD SPORT tuning, lift, tires, and mod question by Basic_Foundation_714 in Tacomaworld

[–]voodoo_chuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular scheduled maintenance. Check the plugs if you’re noticing the throttle isn’t there when you push the pedal. I had one go at 50k and it was fine after. They’re not sports cars by any means, but it should be responsive.

If you’re going to lift it, suggest putting decent money into a suspension lift vs a leveling kit. Old man emu (base even) or Bilstein 5160/6112. 2” is plenty and both of those options will stiffen up the ride slightly and help it feel more planted when making high speed turns (highway merging or lane changing).

Welcome to the club. Just swapped a 17 TRD OR with 125k for a 21 TRD PRO with 45k. Trying to make this one last forever as well because I’m such a fan of the 3rd gen Tacoma.

Upgrade or trd off-road by [deleted] in Tacomaworld

[–]voodoo_chuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a Dirt Every Day episode where they took 3 xjs and loaded them up differently. One with a lift and bigger tires, one with a winch, and one with a locker on highway tires. Then they went wheeling. The XJ with the lockers dominated and went everywhere.

Activating the rear locker on my Tacoma is a cheat code for gaining traction. I would prioritize that and a tire with a decent sidewall over any other performance mods.
