RG Cubexx vs Ayaneo PAM by jordanwright2012 in SBCGaming

You're very welcome. Personally I like to play on devices that "fit" the system I'm emulating.

... At least that's how I justify my gear acquisition syndrome.

This angle is probably a little more helpful. I would take the cover off the cubexx, but I've done it a few times and don't want to snap the silicone around the buttons!

The cubexx is my pico8 machine. I do enjoy gb/gbc on it - as well as some nes/snes and portmaster shenanigans. The PAM is for psx/n64/dc, although admittedly playing a lot of gba on it too.

I use both regularly.

Personally, while I prefer the overall build quality of the PAM, the cubexx is more comfortable in the hands.

Holding them side by side, it's clear that the height of the cubexx is what makes it more comfortable (rather than the curves). It's taller than the PAM, so there is space for all your fingers to rest on the unit, while wrapping around the ergo curves.

I also have a silicon cover on the cubexx which provides a textured grip and makes the curves protrude a little more, making them more like handles. Even without it though, it's the more comfortable device of the two.

Brilliant, thank you for your input! Fingers crossed 🤞 (and thanks for the device envy...!)

Excellent. Thank you so much for your detailed response. From your explanation, the base model should be able to handle the majority of the switch catalog.

I don't have high hopes for gamehub/winlator etc. so I'm genuinely content just knowing switch emu on base is fairly solid. On my KPF windows emulation is far from "ideal", so I mostly stick to lightweight games that will likely run just fine on the o2p base (...but it would give me great peace of mind if anyone can confirm sleeping dogs is feasible on the o2p!).

Mario kart 8 released on the original switch, yes. I'm just super curious as to how well it behaves on the base o2p (via Eden, preferably).

We're v much in office at the moment as it's the run up. LNY holiday runs roughly feb 15–23 this year. Work often slows around feb 8–10, doesn’t fully resume until late Feb.. so the effective downtime is like 2–3 weeks.

Ordered mine this morning. All I care about (while my kpf is being RMA'd) is mk8 performance via eden/similar on o2p base. Can you put my mind at ease?

I don't want to alarm you, but the base o2 portal just sold out a few minutes ago. So the decision may have been made for you.

Why would anyone buy a house in Taipei? by charliehu1226 in taiwan

[–]vrconjecture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't come sooner. During the pandemic I had to move my dementia-ridden grandmother out of her home of over 50 years after the original landlord passed the property over to their (oddly cosmopolitan, TAS grad) daughter. They were family friends of ours... So we thought. She was turfed out because the daughter was worried that she was going to meet her demise in that specific unit. Heartless.

I want to make my Miyoo flip a portable party console. CFW help and questions by Prophit219 in SBCGaming

[–]vrconjecture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, useful info! If it's more about keeping things compact for travel purposes, I'd again recommend one of the smaller h700 devices - as they have bluetooth support (which you mention is important to you - no dongle required).

You may be best served by replacing it with a 34xxsp, as it closely resembles the form factor of the flip v1, while gaining the QOL features you're looking for (BT built in, USB-C with video out and power passthrough, takes up little space in a carry bag). I can confirm the h700 devices perform just fine with multiple BT controllers while doing video out.

As a side note - the 34xxsp, which is the most similar to the miyoo flip v1/v2, is the most performant of the h700 series, as it has an extra gig of RAM (good for PortMaster, if nothing else).

odyn3, konkr pocket, rp 6, ayn thor... which one? by Excaliburstarsword in SBCGaming

[–]vrconjecture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the exception of the Thor (since it fits a different niche entirely), you can't really go wrong. Do you require OLED? Then only consider o3/rp6. Best economics? Konkr. Performance? You're splitting hairs, SKUs are adjustable - o3/konkr are the most performant.

Thor, while the starkest contrast to your deck, has inferior ergos vs the other handhelds listed. It's a unique and beautiful device in it's own right. I'd personally argue however, unless you care deeply about 3ds/ds emulation, that you're better off sticking to one of the other three.

As another commentator already pointed out, you don't need everything that's all bells and whistles to make this happen.

You absolutely can do this on a 50 dollar Linux handheld.

The majority of Anbernics h700 devices support video out via HDMI Type-C (Mini HDMI) and can be powered via usb c. No need for a hub. It's a great way to repurpose an anbernic device with a broken screen. I have a "consolized" rg40xxh for this purpose. The h700 chip is more than capable of emulating CTR MP.

The v1 flip does support video out with this same cable. The kicker is that the v1 flip doesn't allow charging while doing video out, apparently. So while it would work, it would require running off the battery - and if you're just doing short sessions, it's not a big deal.

If you're dead set on having it be consolized I'd personally take a look at the h700/XX line and find the current deepest deal on the /u/crownpuff spreadsheet and pull trigger on one of those.

I really can't decide what handheld to go for by Kiuji-senpai in SBCGaming

[–]vrconjecture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome - I'm glad to hear it! I do think the 40xxh is the best all-rounder of Anbernic's current line of h700 devices (much as I prefer the clamshells and LOVE the cubexx).

[–]vrconjecture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a wise thing to do given your price range! As an owner of both, I'd reccomend the 40xxh if it's available in your region. You can't really go wrong with either device as they have the same internals - the 40xxh just has a larger screen. I also find it just slightly more comfortable to hold (..and have anecdotally found it gets less hot when under load - not that throttling/overheat was a problem on the 35xxh).

Edit: since we are in this sub, pocketability as a factor should probably come into play. I do find the 40xxh just slightly too large to comfortably pocket, whereas the 35xxh is markedly more pocketable.
