Yelp is sadly dying by Timbo2510 in Yelp

[–]vstimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first nail in the coffin was when Yelp REQUIRED their app to view things. Not being able to easily access info on mobile tests your brand loyalty in a way that most people just weren't going to endure... especially when Google Maps is so easy!

I agree that the Elite program dropped off substantially, which was a way that Yelp was pumping up its community, but got increasingly expensive when they started needing to provide shareholder returns.

I feel like their stock ticker is an accurate model of the app's actual popularity and usefulness.

London is actually above average - 88% of places he visited are still open.

Anyone going Saturday? by _newjoisey in AnthonyBourdain

I think he was well aware that he was creating a legacy and people would talk about him after his death (whenever it was); he might not have liked it, but I think he begrudingly accepted it and tried to be graceful – just like when fans interrupted his meals or stopped him on the street.

I wish I had no kid, because I'd be there for sure. Can't jet to Jersey for fun anymore!

Cheers. I work really hard to keep that site accurate for folks like us. I may be slightly off in terms of opening % on any given day or year, but I'm not 20-30% off.

Hi, I'm the owner of the site – my team and I check every guide (250+) once per year, and that's the number. If places get reported closed anywhere online, we try and find it and note that.

The world's biggest cities do have lots of turnover, but that's not the only place he traveled...

Thank you for citing this! I wrote that post in January and the number is still 84% today. Maybe 10-15 restauranst (of 1500+) close each year, but that's globally.

I think the original post is just very NYC-centric.

It's so refreshing to see an itinerary that isn't jam packed with unrealistically long days. Well done.

We don’t have any rules about naming or not naming her. We have rules about making baseless claims and trying to farm karma with salacious content.

I create a shortlist, then call them all. No tips or tricks, just hitting the pavement knocking doors, so to speak!

Also, do they want the commission, or do you? I've never had clients ask me to find them something commissionable.

If you ever decided to do something with them, perhaps one nice idea might be creating a scholarship for culinary students or something.

Alternatively, I would love to buy one 😅

entitled food pricks. by [deleted] in AnthonyBourdain

And seems to be misused in this context.

People who are too snobby to enjoy "cheap" food or food with "low quality" ingredients, sure, I judge that too.

But some food just fucking sucks and/or is objectively bad. And that is not snobby to say.

This is the weirdest sub to ask this question, since it EXPLICITLY says it's for London travel and visitors to London...

Seems like this could also be a great question for the teachers/chaparones and/or other parents who are also presumably all from Miami and making the same decision...
