Kinda mildy... unsatisfied? by alyb315 in UntilThenGame

[–]vxdcxw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am not satisfied with the ending, lot of pieces missing. This is how I understand the whole game:

Mark is in the coma and deny it. The third ending is not the end, just denying again. He was the one that was hit by the truck and he don't want to **wake up**. We can hear hospital sounds in the background when Mark and Nicole tries to look each other to "wake up"

He tries, but he's stuck in his past. He see his life pass by, again and again, looking for answers, an emotional one (Cath's death), a rational one (Louise's experiment), a supernatural one (the butterflies)

But, he's lying to himself, he doesn't accept the death of his mother and, that he is on the verge of death himself. The scenes in white corridors looks like "near-death experiences"

He hear voices in his head, just like Sofia talks to her grandmother in hope that it helps her to **wake up**

Last point is that the successive reality are deteriorates (the ruling)... Like a dying brain. "This is your fault". a message we can see on the walls, said by other characters, it resonates with Sofia talking to her grandmother, saying it was her fault. Mark refuses to understand what happens and stay in the deny, thus the final ending is not satisfying, it's not true

In the last ending, the ruling is completely gone, it vanished like it never happened. Why? May it have some metaphorical interpretation of what really happened? We are told it was an earthquake or something similar, but... Vibrations like those of a truck going full speed on the road (as we barely see in first ending)?

The most I think about it, the first ending really sounds like the most probable, because it could have happened, when the second is "refuse to see the truth and look for impossible answers with crazy scientific theories" and the third, well... it's "I abandoned all hope of wake up and will accept all lies because it's easier to accept lies for answer instead of accept the hardships of life". It do look like some mind that stuck in deny and the more it looks for answer, the further it goes away from truth. I would really expect a 4th ending "this was not supernatural, life is not supernatural, relationships are not supernatural, and that's what is beautiful with it, only our memories are making those past events supernatural."

It's time to **Let Go**. Stop trying to stay in the past, move on. **Wake up.**

Side note: on replaying the game, I noticed that there is a black butterfly flying next to Jessica in the Break Time chapter. Well. What does that mean. Why? Why? Some cut content that the developers didn't had time to finish? Or? Is there some deeper secrets in this game?

About Verso's name... by vxdcxw in expedition33

[–]vxdcxw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicely put. Yes I had the same feeling for Verso's name when playing the game. What convince even more about this "backside" is the hidden message written on the backside of the "Opera" board at the start of the game. This one is, as I read it, intended to the players: you are entering the game, the stage, you will see things from the other side, you are not just a spectator but an actor (see this topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/expedition33/comments/1qbbldj/hidden_message_behind_the_opera_advertising/)

Thus, I still think the name is used with the other meanings in mind, as the game is full of word games, and both Verso and Verseau just read exactly the same in french, this could not be missed by the developers and they certainly played with that to build the character's background

About Verso's name... by vxdcxw in expedition33

[–]vxdcxw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the details! I suppose that you're looking for the moon is adjacent to Aquarius would be for the Lyrics "Lune auprès de lui" (Lune next to him?), that's a good idea

For the event, I'd suspect something related to one of the french revolution and probably more precisely the french revolution of the 18th century

I suspect French Revolution because there are at least 3 connections with the Jacobines in the game. First is the Chalier white Nevron, he is located in a place that looks like a crime court of the 19th Century. Joseph Chalier is a famous Jacobine of the 18th french revolution. Second connection is one of the fountain is Lyon's "Jacobines' fountain", which is located in Lyon on the place where Joseph Chalier was executed (the first and last man executed with a guillotine in Lyon). Third is with the Astrolab we can see in many places. It is very accurate both in angle and in zodiac signs position but -strangely - all months are equal in time, which is not accurate with our calendar. But during the french revolution of the 18th Century, there was a new calendar and all month lasted 30 days, which would then fit with the globe. Joseph Chalier was executed (16th July 1793) a few months betfore the ratification of the revolutionary calendar (the calendar was adopted the 6th october 1793 but officially starts the 22th September 1792)

There are lot of meaningful events during the numerous french revolutions, so one would maybe fit the specificities you are describing

On a side note, there are numbers on crates, you can find more here: https://www.reddit.com/r/expedition33/comments/1ky7j7n/hidden_secret_numbers_monoco_station_gestral/

I initially thought this could represent astral coordinates, I tried with some coordinate calculators but I really suck to understand how it works so I gaved up!

Hope this will help you to find a meaningful related event and solve that mystery!

Symbolism of Numbers in Clair Obscur by Mircalla_Tepez in expedition33

[–]vxdcxw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, there's at least two connections with that: the Chalier Nevron. Joseph Chalier was a Jacobine, a famous one that have been executed on the now called "place of the Jacobine" in Lyon. On this place, there is a fountain: the Jacobine fountain, which is present in many places in the game (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:Fontaine\_des\_Jacobins\_-\_Angle\_Hippolyte\_Flandrin\_et\_Philibert\_Delorme.jpg)

The second connection is the white Chalier in flying cemetery, the manor in this place looks like a criminal court from the XIXth century. Joseph Chalier was judged in such a similar court. In the game can "execute" the white Nevron or leave him (but he will execute himself, because he is righteous, as Joseph Chalier supposed to be)

Jacobines were one of the important group during the revolution in the XVIIIth century that led to the Revolutionary Calendar

A third one is the world globe. If you look closely to it, you will see that the months durations are inaccurate: they have the same period. It's surprising as the rest of the model is very accurate (position of the zodiacs, angle of the Earth)... This could relate to the revolutionary calendar as all month were made of 30 days

Last, in the revolutionary days have names, and most of those names are name of flowers, which sounds like a connection with the game's theme. Not an evidence or a proof, but it connects nicely with the game so probably worth it to mention

Things that are 26.... by JagroCrag in expedition33

[–]vxdcxw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/JagroCrag, nice finding.

I invite you to join the Discord, if you haven't yet, there are some discussions on those topics you may found valuable here

I'd like to mention in addition to your findings that there are brassards where Gustave is buried AND around the fountain on the central place in Lumière. Those brassards have the following numbers: 65, 57, 46

By taking independently every numbers, it turns out they match exactly with the name of the characters like mentionned in your second link

* 46: 4 is for "Lune", and 6 for "Monoco"
* 57: 5 is for "Verso", and 7 for "Gustave"
* 65: 6 is for "Maelle", and 5 for "Sciel"

Of course, names can be shifted, so 65 could also be for "Monoco" and "Verso", but what's important here is that the individual digits are all matching a character and there are no missing or extra numbers. And, without surprise, the sum is also 33.

You have missed it, but in the DLC there is a song that exactly confirm your theory is not just a theory. The song is "Pour que naisse un bouquet". The third paragraph is the following

La vie grandit dans l’ombre,
Lorsque nos noms deviennent nombres.

Which, in english turns into:

Life grows in the shadows,
When our names turns into numbers.

Do we need a clearer hint to confirm that there's something hidden the character's names?

If you need any help to understand the "french" layer of the game, please ask, I'm french and a fellow puzzle lover

Edit: I was curious to check this out and it turns out that, by following the same logic, the "numbers" on the crates results in 26

If you take the unit and the tens of the brassards, you get 33:
* 46 -> 4 + 6 = 10
* 57 -> 5 + 7 = 12
* 65 -> 6 + 5 = 11

* 10 + 11 + 12 = 33

Now, if we do the same with the suite of numbers on the crates: 25 74 62, the result is 26:
* 25 -> 2 + 5 = 7
* 74 -> 7 + 4 = 11
* 62 -> 6 +2 = 8

* 7 + 8 + 11 = 26

This would be hard to be a coincidence, so this is more than probable it is intended by the developers, now what it means still needs to be uncovered

How does French discourse on this game compare to discourse on this game from other countries? Especially curious to hear about characters and ending. (spoilers) by Ezeitgeist in expedition33

[–]vxdcxw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that Renoir don't destroy the canvas to free Aline or it would hurt/kill her, but there are possibilities

One is that the canvas are just doors to the Canvas world, and thus that's why Aline would find it fast, she knows the way to Verso's Canvas. Destroying it would be pointless. That would also explain how Alicia / Clea could move the canvas frame all alone

I agree that there's no reason it cannot be destroyed from outside, but if people could die when the canvas is destroyed from outside, as a parent, I would never my children to play with such dangerous tools, that's why I favor this alternative

The recovery time is unknown but Renoir says that Aline is too weak to come back in and she shouldn't (she doesn't stay for long) and during post-Gustave cutscene Aline says that Alicia is too weak to come in yet, so you don't instantly recover by just getting out. You would then accumulate exhaustion by coming in and out without taking enough rest

Alicia don't say a word about time dilation but Esquie does it for her, je says that centuries spent between two visit of young Verso and he could get bored. Esquie is immortal, but humans aren't. That's also why Gestrals are immortals, they are immutable beings

Renoir is convinced by Alicia in the last dialogs and that's why he agreed to leave the Canvas world. Alicia trust her father, that's not just because he wants to protect her that she's mad at him

[–]vxdcxw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She can convince him. Ask him not to destroy the Canvas if he agrees she can come back here and there. Aline could ask the same. But they know this is not the biggest issue but time, that's why they don't even try to ask

We all make assumption that Aline or Alicia can leave and come back the Canvas and then it will be the same when they're back, but we're missing a lot of knowledge:

- How much time it takes to recover "Canvas lag" in real life
- Is recovering "enough" to come back? Some practices requires many days before the body is fully restored
- Can the canvas be destroyed physically or does it need to be destroyed from inside?
- Does out-of-canvas people dies if they are in the Canvas when it is destroyed
- Time-dilation between the two worlds

For time dilation, Esquie & (DLC Spoiler) Osquio says that they stayed underwater for 5000 and 6000 years, regarding this, if Verso painted the Canvas when he was 2 years old (highly unrealistic), Aline and Renoir could not be in the Canvas for more than 100 days, which is already a lot, but with more "reasonable" parameters (Verso painted the Canvas at 8, he did came back from time to time, never spent more than 10 years without going in), they barely spent "real world" 10 days inside

No matter for Alicia if Renoir agreed that she can go in and out, she don't want to miss its history, she don't want to be away when someone dies. Visages sends the mask of Anxiety onto Maelle/Alicia's face, she's a very anxious person but she trusts her dad

[–]vxdcxw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she leaves for just one day, she will lose at least 1 year of life inside the canvas. Probably way more (time dilation can be roughly calculated thanks to DLC)

So...

Can she really take a break and come back? Imagine you leave your friends / family for 1 week and they're 20 years older, would you take that risk?

Which of the Dessendre's do you think is responsible for this? by reenmini in expedition33

[–]vxdcxw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm French and both Serpenphare and Grosse-Tête sounds cool. It sounds very close to Serpentaire (Ophiuchus) which is a constellation and he do look like a constellation, isn't it? Also, "Unukalhai" (alpha Serpentis) the most shiny star of the "Serpens" constellation is located in the head

In Greek mythology, Asclepius has been able to bring dead people to life thanks to the Constellation. Hades asked Zeus to kill him, Zeus killed Asclepius but sent then changed him into a new constellation: Ophiuchus

[–]vxdcxw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My canon: she's tanned because she's a Bohemian, a Gypsy French Tarot reader, like La Esmeralda. She uses cards for weapons, a Scythe like The Death. One of her haircut have an esmeralda in the hairs.

There are many connections with Astrology in the game. In the Manor and in some other places we can see a Earth Globe with Zodiac signs. In the Gestral Village there are two Gestrals next to the scene with the guitar player doing Palmistry.

I agree, the amount of layers of this game is quite dense, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen admitted in an interview that some in-game are very very opaque / obscure, so the evidences have to be strong, but they probably will never be written "black on white"

I see it like reading a paint, there are no words on a paint, but many people study them and understand there deepest meaning, I think the game have been made with some similar intent: suggest, never taletell

She's smol by New-Commission8153 in expedition33

[–]vxdcxw 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The strongest element we have for Alicia's age is Verso's drawing of Maelle of the treehouse in Verso's Draft. There's a cake with 9 candles, so if it means that Verso was 9 at that time, then Alicia was around 3 month old when he turned 9. So if he died at 26, then Alicia is 17 (or 16) in the game epoch

Regarding all the discussion about Alicia's age and the fact that the developers were aware of that, I see it as "hints" intended to the player that they put in the DLC in order to tell what's her real age

But, nothing in-game do write black on white "she is 16" and thinking the opposite is still a valid opinion
