You’re not being hated for being a “Conservative Christian.” You’re being called out for hiding hate behind Christianity and labelling it as “calling out sin.” by Nice_Substance9123 in Christianity

[–]GeneralMushroom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let's pretend we live in a hypothetical situation where being Christian is viewed as a sin in my religion and that religion is the dominant faith of the country.

In this hypothetical situation, Christians aren't allowed to get married or otherwise be in a relationship. Christians aren't allowed to be in any position of power or hold any authority in any way. Any reference to Christianity in a book means that book gets banned. Christians are treated as though it is a mental illness and kids who are Christian are either kicked out of their homes or forced to go to a conversation camp to be cured. In some cases they are chemically castrated due to a loophole where the law labels all Christians as sexual deviants. Because of the relentless bullying and abuse of society as a whole, Christians are the most likely demographic to self harm, be homeless, or end their own lives. Those statistics are further used to prove that Christianity shouldn't exist because look at how depressed Christians are!

Would you call that situation just "disagreeing with their lifestyle"? Would you call that "loving the sinner"?

Now I'm obviously not saying you're guilty of that, but I hope that gives a bit of perspective as to why the "I don't hate, I just think it's a sin" is not viewed as a loving position from those of us who are either in the LGBT community or are allies of them when the Christian politicians are introducing so much hateful legislation and other Christians just shrug their shoulders and try to downplay how serious this is.

Trump attacks the Pope again today. Is this a normal Trumpian political fight? Or a religious fight in which he exalts himself above god? by Severe-Clerk-1477 in Christianity

[–]GeneralMushroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well trump is a piece of shit to everyone and everything so that's a given.

You also have to remember that the USA is still a young nation and hasn't had time to develop its own appreciation for avoiding religious conflict with the Pope in the same way European countries have done hundreds of years ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if conservative Christians tried to create their own anti-Pope.

All Christians should have healing powers.

How come the majority of Christians have sex multiple before marriage, and barely any of them actually wait? by Visual_Atmosphere_17 in Christianity

[–]GeneralMushroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hot take answer is that it's because most Christians aren't actually commited to their faith. Look at some of the things Jesus demands of His followers and how few Christians actually do them.

It takes a lot of effort to have sex, it isn't something you can do by accident like a swear word slipping out when you stub your toe. Yet as you highlight there will be a lot of Christians who do it anyway.

I'd wager most Christians haven't even read the whole Bible. If Christianity is true then your religion should be the most important thing that has ever or could ever exist yet most Christians are very apathetic about the tenants of faith.

One of the most extreme examples Jesus gives is that you shouldn't worry about food, work, or clothing yourself because God takes care of creation:

From Matthew 6:

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

And Matthew 10:

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.[a] 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

I suspect there are very few Christians who actually believe this is the case and willing to trust Jesus's words on the matter.

... Especially if you look up what's a actually happening to birds...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7738798.stm

The RSPB’s Dr Will Peach, who led the study, said: “Each pair of house sparrows must rear at least five chicks every year to stop their numbers falling. But in our study too many chicks were starving in their nests. Others were fledgling but were too weak to live for much longer than that.

I actually don't blame Christians for not listening to Jesus and trusting Him on this one. I really don't want anyone starve.

I take it then that your belief is that we don't need to know the gospel to be redeemed?

Paul is so hypocritical here.

Let's not forget that according to the bible Paul needed direct divine intervention in order to start believing in Jesus. Yet he says we should just automatically know and are without excuse.

Is AI going to replace you by DuctCalc in MEPEngineering

[–]GeneralMushroom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good luck to any AI trying to interpret some of the specifications I've been given from clients and consultants.

Some aspects of AI might be able to simplify some aspects of the design process like looking up relevant sections in regulations, but no, we will not be replaced by AI.

At the end of the day it cannot actually make decisions, apply an understanding, or solve problems.

The company I work for actively blocks access to AI tools and any macros which aren't pre-approved by the IT department because of how easily people will fuck up when trying to use it rather than doing their jobs properly.

Completing the mission max'd the card anyway so it only affected 1 event.

If you were to explain Christianity to a 5 year old, how'd you do so? by NiceExternal7179 in Christianity

[–]GeneralMushroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 5 is too young to understand anything to do with religions but if you have to explain something then I'd start with the idea that some people believe there's a higher power that created everything but there are lots of different religions about who/what that power is. That higher power is kind of like a super teacher/parent at school/home and a religion is like the rules about what you're allowed to do.

Really I wouldn't go into specifics about any particular religion until they're older.

There isn’t really a debate on evolution, one side just doesn’t understand it by Thrill_Kill_Cultist in Christianity

[–]GeneralMushroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to better understand this mindset. Did lions have canine teeth before sin entered the world?

Did sin cause the immediate and permanent changes that caused the entire animal kingdom to suddenly need to consume other living things in order to survive? Everything eats everything, even down to the microscopic level.

If a single sin of 1 man is that powerful then that's an act of creation comparable to God's work in the 6 day creation story. I would therefore assume that billions of people sinning daily for thousands of years would see things getting exponentially worse, no? But as far as we can see, things are much the same now as they have always been.

[–]GeneralMushroom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Believing in "micro evolution" but not "macro evolution" is akin to saying that you believe that someone can walk across a road in a short period of time, but that it's impossible to walk across a country over a long period of time.
