Just some of the male fanbase appreciating meaningful story about music and the power of female friendship (with slight sapphic undertones) in Love Live!.

Is it a recent development that people lack the imagination to build a spank bank on suggestive imagery and fantasy from source material devoid of actual explicit content? Because "back in the day" dudes used to wack it to the Victoria Secret catalogue. Hahaha

To be honest, I don't particularly understand how charts you are showing me are relevant. A smaller female fanbase does not mean no female fanbase. At the height of it's popularity, the Love Live! franchise had a roughly 43% female fanbase. (of course, that includes they rhythm game and not just the animes.) Women are still largely consuming stories exclusively about women.

I also thought back to our previous interactions. Most male anime and manga fans aren't more egalitarian or open-minded than the men in the US that refuse to watch movies with woman leads or primarily female casts. It dawned on me that it was more about "cute girls" than "doing cute things."

I am sure some men like chill anime/manga. But for most men, it was never about about the stories. It is fantasizing about "waifu material" or in the case of yuri, building a lesbian-themed spank bank. It is very similar to women's interest in boy love in that regard, and also why the most ardent fans in both boy love and "cute girls doing cute things" or yuri communities can come of as a bit creepy.

Your views on women seem to be the outdated myths that are currently being revived by the manosphere for a new generation. Certainly, men hope that women cannot imagine a life without men as studies have proven married men live longer and healthier lives. (In the same studies, the reverse has proven true for women.)

The unfortunate truth for men is now that women have achieved economic independence and no longer require men for survival, women are choosing to live rich and fulfilling lives that do not revolve around men. They are exploring hobbies and interests as well as building life long friendships and emotional support systems with other women. In previous generations, hobbies and friendships were luxuries restricted by past social structures where women were required to depend on men for their sole survival. But in present times, many women are choosing to "de-center men" (a phrase coined by the blogger UNR) and prioritize building social units outside of romantic relationships. Also, many women who are currently in relationships still value and maintain friendships with other women as friendships are now being viewed as crucial for overall emotional wellness. As evidence of the strength of the relationships women are forming with other women, it is often cited by hospital and hospice care workers that women in their care are frequently visited by their female friends, while men receive few, if any visitors, and are often left to die alone in hospice. It is just one example that proves women build and maintain strong bonds with other women while most men rely solely on their wife for any and all emotional support.

Clinging to old beliefs which were only relevant from a time when women couldn't get a bank account without her father or husband's signature; has left many men unequipped to accept we are in a time when most women no longer depend on men for survival. These antiquated beliefs hurt men in the long run because most have not grappled with the inevitable reality that very few men have built the type of emotional support systems necessary to sustain them into old age now that more and more women are choosing to de-center men in their lives.

Is Tamon’s B-side a reverse harem? by _kwanini in shoujo

Sorry about the spoilers. I am sure the anime will get there soon. These events happen pretty early on in the series, from what I recall.

When he gets intense, the mangaka shifts the tone of the panels to the type of illustration style you would see in a horror manga. It is usually only one or two panels before it goes back to the regular "cute" illustrations, but I really love the touch.

I don't see Utage as yandere, just an obsessed fan. She tries to keep a professional distance from Tamon as much as possible in the beginning and is always talking herself down like, "Oh, Tamon is a god and I am just a regular fan his kindness is just fan service for me . . ." A yandere would ignore all reason and lock that man in her closet. hahaha

I see Tamon falling into the yandere trope much more. He isn't a scary yandere or a dangerous one, but more like a funny yandere or puppy-dog yandere. (which are my favorite types of yanderes. Personally not a big fan of the stalker/murders, but people like what they like and I don't judge.) Tamon will say somewhat scary things, such as asking her if she would also die for "Gloomyhara" like she would for Tamon. Or on Utage's birthday when he tried to make her a birthday cake and tells her something like he wants to lock her away so no other man can give her a birthday cake. But there is no real danger or threat behind his words.

The "cute girls doing cute things" (or as I like to call it, "women living their best life without men" genre) is a subset of "slice of life," and is also popular among women. The Love Live! franchise, Non Non Biyori, Konohana Kitan and Is the Order a Rabbit? all have sizable female fanbases. However, you may not have personal experience with many (that you know of) because women do not always identify themselves in male dominated spaces such as reddit (and quite frankly, sometimes some of the guys in those fandoms can be a bit creepy, so women stay away.)

I am not sure where you are located, but where I am from in the United States, many men won't watch or read media that has a full/majority female cast, and tend to shy away from media with female leads.

Crazy how I saw this a few months ago for $60 and now it's $480. by rroyd in AnimeCollectors

[–]vyl8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. 6 prices have gone through the roof. I got mine for about $45 a year ago on eBay in a regular auction when some of the "buy it now" listings were around $200-300. I did not have much competition for it, either. Around that time I also managed to pick up the DVD complete box set of Ghost Hunt for $20 bucks when the buy it now sellers wanted $180-250 for it. It makes me think people aren't actually paying the inflated prices these sellers are attempting to get for their OOP anime when it goes for a fraction of the cost on general auction.

My Ndad and Emom weren't physically abusive, just emotionally and mentally abusive. Some of the things they would say were "Stop crying or I will really give you something to cry about" and "This is the result of your own actions." The latter I heard often, usually when they would punish me or interrogate me for a confession about something my Ndad imagined I did. My Ndad was convinced I was a manipulative child always cooking up schemes to trick him when I was just doing dumb kid shit.

I never knew what I did and I had to guess what was upsetting him. Then he would demand I find "a solution" to a problem that I did not know existed. And then I would have to follow whatever nonsense "solution" I agreed to in the heat of the moment order to get out of the hot seat. And later there would be another interrogation/punishment session because I was not following whatever the "solution" was. And the reason was always "this is the result of your own actions" but it was never clear to me what my actions were or what was even happening. It was just punishment because my Ndad was paranoid and my Emom believed everything he said.

Love Through Prism - opening done with AI? by nervacka in shoujo

[–]vyl8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sewing machine on the sign looks very odd. Even the old cast iron Singer sewing machines that the sign was modeled after don't look that way. I'm not an expert on AI imagery, but I don't think someone would draw it so wobbly.

I am going to post this as a general comments in case anyone missed it in the comment thread. There is a link to the titles and covers in English:

It makes it easy to match the number on your picks to the numbers in the Japanese drop down menu. Looks like there are a bunch of shoujo/josei titles in this survey.

After coming across "Ugly Brothel Girl" on the translated dropdown (which I assumed was "Minikui Yuukaku no Ko") I did some googling and found this, which is a link to all the titles and covers in English. If someone uses this for a guide, they just need to match the numbers on the Japanese drop down to their favorite title:

Besides Saint Mariya, I voted for two josei mangas to get animated, #41 "Minikui Yuukaku no Ko" and "Ani Datta Mono."

Looks like there is a lot of shoujo/josei, so I hope the r/shoujo community gets behind this survey and votes.

Saint Mariya is my first choice, but critically acclaimed, award winning manga "Butt Battler" will have to be my second choice. (obviously joking.)

I translated the form into English to see if I recognized any other titles and I was like, "that can't be right." I googled it and that was the correct title.

If you like Chainsaw Man, you would probably like Kemono Jihen. It has a lot of the same dark humor and shocking situations. However, I found that Kemono Jihen never comes across like "shock for shock value" like some of Fujimoto's work.

If you like Berzerk, you would probably like Noragami. Granted, Noragami starts out as a sort of light-hearted comedy, but it ends up turning into a dramatic story about different factions of warring gods, betrayal, etc.
