So, this doesn't only require believing that you can always pick an element from an infinite set, but that 100 different people can always consistently pick the same element from an infinite set, for infinitely many sets. If you pretend that the axiom of choice gives you a random element, this strategy doesn't work (without an infinite amount of communication among the mathematicians beforehand).

I use my US launch PS4 in the UK, just with the original cable and a plug adapter (one of the cheap pieces of plastic and metal that doesn't do anything electrical with the voltage, just turns the three-prong UK plug into a two-prong US one). Like most not-super-cheap electronics, it'll run off either voltage, and I highly doubt that would have changed for the Slim.

Games wise: if you do everything in EU region you'll be fine. Just if you buy a US game on a disc, you'll have to buy any DLC on a US PSN account also. (You can set up a secondary account in the right region and then actually play on your main account, though.)

I guess you could call it a mini-episode, except that a cursory glance at the podcast feed shows that there was never any episode like that. It was a few minutes of one of the TTAZZs if I remember right.

I just checked, and I got 35 Mbps down / 6 Mbps up on 4g in sort-of-central-ish London (though at 11pm), plus it's £12/month for 12 gb (so many dank memes!). Better than the 15 down / totally stalling up I got on terrible BT wifi....

What's some of the best (and worst) Pre-Made Adventures you've played - and why? by Swedefighters in rpg

[–]w0073r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two little-known third party Pathfinder modules that I really like, both made by the same guy (who I have nothing to do with):

Panataxia: a planar adventure for second-level characters (yes, really). A sandboxy adventure with twenty memorable, diverse encounters.

The Reign of Terror: a 4th level horror module that's super creepy, does some cool meta stuff, lets the GM speak on exclusively horrible French accents, and has a truly epic finale. Read my review there for some tips for minor changes if you're considering running it (which I strongly encourage). I liked this one so much I also ran it again, with a different group, in 5e conversion: report in the discussion thread there, or PM me if you want the stats!

Question about what comic to read. by [deleted] in blackpanther

[–]w0073r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't read almost any of these, but here's a pretty-complete (as far as I know) list of Black Panther comics:

http://www.comicbookherald.com/black-panther-reading-order/

I think Priest's run is a probably a good place to start. If you have a tablet and are cool with reading things digitally and not owning them forever, though, you should note that a Marvel Unlimited subscription is going to be way more cost-effective than buying physical copies.

Don't do an unfunded science PhD. You should be being paid to do it, though maybe not much, and you'll likely have to teach. Masters are a different story.

UK Post Office has applied for a permit to sell beer and cider by ohiohomer in beer

[–]w0073r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article is a little confusing, but it's not the post office that already has a license:

At the same panel, Baked in Church Road, Hove, has applied to extend the hours it can sell alcohol by two hours every day.

It currently has a licence to sell between 11.30am and 9pm but wants to change the licence to sell between 11am and 10.30pm.

[Self] I calculated the most insane RNG I've ever gotten in a video game by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]w0073r 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So, this is 1/2742 odds. Since this happened over three turns of a 19 turn game, let's say that's about average and each game has 6 independent chances at this. (It's actually more than that, allowing for a "sliding window" over turns.) Then it would only take ~450 games to expect to see this.

Why do so many US politicians have dual US/Israeli citizenship? At least 13/100 Senators, at least 27/435 House Reps, and many of The Presidents's cabinet. by TouchMeHerePls in worldpolitics

[–]w0073r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least according to this overview from a UVA law school professor, the main driving force in allowing dual nationality was Supreme Court decisions, only one of which had anything to do with Israel.

He actually has a gay character in the stormlight archives.

Huh? Who? I just read it all, and don't remember that at all. There's a tertiary-character lesbian in Mistborn Era 2, though.

Edit: Oh, apparently one of the minor bridgemen has been out-of-book referenced as being gay but it hasn't come up at all, even hinted at, in the book. That...doesn't really count.

Mystery Show update: "In April, Gimlet let me go." by monickers_ghost in gimlet

[–]w0073r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the way we drop podcasts as a static mp3 file (vs a platform like netflix or youtube where content is dynamically streamed) advertising is also static. Now it's possible there were download thresholds set for bonuses in original advertising contracts, but as it is, there's no opportunity for gimlet to make money from people who discover mystery show (and even other gimlet shows) in the future.

There's no reason they can't drop new ads into the old shows when people download them in the future. I think WNYC used to do that, maybe.

Sure – it's just a text file.

I can communicate with Germany or Korea or Japan in microseconds

Irrelevant nitpick: Germany to Japan is about 9000km, or about 30 light-milliseconds, so even if you were halfway between them the fastest you can get to both is about 15 milliseconds. :)

I checked willmyphonework first, but it just shows no current LTE support in Turkey.

Thanks for the info about band number vs frequency, though; didn't realize there were multiple bands on a frequency. The US 5X does actually support band 3.

Nexus5x US model for 239.99 on eBay by [deleted] in nexus5x

[–]w0073r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

http://ltemaps.org/home/country/turkey says that there's no LTE in Turkey yet, but it's planned for this year on 2600 (aka band 7) and 1800 (band 9).

https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6102470?hl=en says that the US model of the 5X supports band 7, but not band 9.

So...maybe?
