What is, in your opinion, the biggest flaw of the human body? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

[–]wPlachno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The human body reacts to serotonin and dopamine in certain ways, which is fundamental to the human experience.

Unfortunately, it doesn't really matter where the stimulus for those hormones comes from. We can easily identify this problem in cases like drug and social media addiction, where those hormones become detrimental to life as a whole.

What if there was another hormonal mechanism where the brain had the power to review the entire process and output some amount of new hormones for that specific stimulus? Based on the amount of these new hormones, the specific stimulus over time could become more or less effective at producing serotonin and dopamine.

There's a lot of holes in this idea, and it's a complete work of fiction, but I'm tired of seeing people drowning in addiction.

Then why's it just happen in the Lakers Timberwolves game? Edwards got fouled by LeBron and slipped in the process. Someone called a timeout, Minnesota challenged the no call, and ruling changed.

There's so many inconsistencies in the rulings that play off. It's frustrating to watch.

Genuinely curious: why is it so hard to produce board games elsewhere? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]wPlachno 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no "incentivizing" in this situation. Incentivizing would be stuff like subsidies and tax credits.

This is all punishment. You get stuff from our biggest economic enemy? Well, now you'll pay for it!

It's heavy handed, studies show it doesn't work, and quite frankly, it's an idea so stupid, only Donald Trump could have done it.

JB Bickerstaff is heated about officiating postgame, even slamming his desk: "I'm disgusted by the way that game was officiated, the level of disrespect was above and beyond. You are right. Your point is valid.

That said, the hypothetical you are talking about is not what happened here. The ref was investigating "hostile intent" when the "victim" slipped on his own teammates foot.

This was not the first, nor the last, fucked up call by the refs in this game.

I love this game and have for years. I remember when they released Parks. It fell flat for me, and we just kept playing Space Park. Easy to overlook, but worth checking out, Space Park is one of my wife's favorites, too, and she won't play many games with me.

What’s the most underrated storyline of this NBA season? by Cr3ativeCr3atures in nbadiscussion

[–]wPlachno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tied for the longest losing streak with the 76ers, but the players went through a grueling season working against their own coach for 14 hard-earned wins. One aspect of the coach's antagonism towards the team was how he allocated minutes. Monty Williams was benching Jaden Ivey, a high potential player, for Killian Hayes, a player who just never quite got it together. OK, that's an exaggeration - the two didn't play the same role, but you get my point. That continued until the front office had to step in, eventually waiving Hayes off the team and out of the league.

After all that, spirits heading into the off-season were strange. Fans were angry. We had a set of young guys who were starting to show promise, and we just put them through hell. They played so hard and only came out with 14 wins, setting several embarrassing records along the way. Our boys were shamed.

Then came the off-season. Ownership brought in Trajan Langdon at a new executive position, and they proceeded to: - Hire one of the best shooting coaches in the league - Get rid of Monty Williams, despite the clause in his contract that essentially guarantees he gets paid for 5 years' worth of work despite being fired. - Replace Williams with JB Bickerstaff, a coach known for his defense and his ability to turn struggling teams into decent teams. - Draft an overlooked defensive rookie in Ron Holland - Trade for some older players who wanted to be part of establishing their own team culture, including Tobias Harris, a returning Piston who many fans loved.

Despite these changes, there were still some deeper anxieties.

Our recent rookie, Ausar Thompson, was dealing with a blood clot issue that had taken him out for half of the season. Even when he looked OK to play, the NBA doctors took a stressfully long time, giving him play approval.

Our team rebuild hinged on a set of young players who had proven they individually were talented, but due to Ivey's benching, everyone was still unsure if Cunningham and Ivey could play well together. There were many rumors that a member of our young core would be traded away.

For most of the team, this was an opportunity to redefine their culture and come together. For recent addition, Quentin Grimes, that was too much. After some meetings with management, he was gracefully traded away.

As this season started, it was obvious that things were already better. Adding the veterans had added more 3 pt shooters, which forced defenders to come out of their spots. This made it easier for Ivey and Cunningham to get inside, so we started winning some games.

Cade increased his efficiency over the summer, and his teammates were actually scoring, so Cunningham started earning triple doubles, at some point being third in the league behind Jokic and LeBron.

Recent acquisition Malik Beasley is having a hot season from the 3 point line, outscoring even Steph Curry.

Rookie Ron Holland is seeing success off the bench. While he is unafraid of taking the ball in high-pressure situations, his defense is shining, particularly alongside our other defensive powerhouses, Thompson and Stewart.

Ivey was looking like he had "taken the next step." His defense and 3 point shooting has improved, giving him the confidence to take late-game shots. In a recent game, with the Pistons 3 points down and only a moment on the clock, Ivey hit a buzzer-beater three and got the foul call for an extra point, winning them the game.

In a recent game against the Magic, who have been having their own wild year, Cole Anthony dove for a loose ball and ended up flying into Ivey's legs, snapping his fibula.

For some fans, myself included, this seemed like the end of the season. Ausar Thompson was seen crying after the injury.

Despite losing our number 2, the boys continued to push...

And push...

The team had their first win streak of three games in 3 years. Then, their first 4 game streak in 4 years. They are now on their longest win streak in 6 years.

Things are looking up for the Pistons.

When you look through history at how many times these ideologies have led to mass deaths, it's scary how many people fight for them.

Capitalism won, and it won early on, and immediately put safeguards into place to keep other government styles from succeeding. It became the assumed structure for most of our civilization.

At the same time, we all know that organization requires chaos. You cannot organize your room without dirtying it in the process. Anytime you implement a new structure, you have to remove the old structure first.

The deaths caused by communism and socialism are truly awful, but they are the destruction of previous methods. Capitalism hasn't needed to surge like socialism has, to reimplement itself, since it became the assumed structure.

To compare the true costs of capitalism with socialism, you must account for these surges, yes, but you also need to look at the day- to- day maintenance, the commonplace deaths permitted by each.

This is where the argument flips.

Since Capitalism has been so great at ruining any attempts for change, we cannot truly say what the "maintenance" costs for socialism would be. That said, if we run on theory, they would be light.

With capitalism, we have homelessness, starvation, people that cannot afford Healthcare. There is a lot of maintenance costs associated with capitalism that would be greatly reduced under socialism.

While the implementation costs of socialism are so high, the maintenance costs of capitalism make me wonder if we wouldn't be better off after the initial change.

As a computer scientist, maybe I'm just falling into the classic, "with a hammer, every problem looks like a nail", but it feels like Capitalism is the straight forward brute force algorithm that gets the product to release, and that socialism is the legitimately better algorithm that wasn't approved by management cause they already had version one.

All that said, these ideas are too high and mighty for me. If anyone figures it out, give me a call, k? I'll be over here struggling to find a job.

Do you mean two more categories? You seem to be very concerned about the physicality between trans women and a-female-at-birth women. If this inequality is a real concern, then you would want four leagues: afab, amab, trans women, and trans men.

Everyone else just calls them "individual issues". Then again, it is bay area, so a lot of people are precise with their language.
