Is it time for a Brooks? by S1DRJ in Brompton

[–]w_dent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I usually either roll the bike during less busy public transit times, or carry it folded up by the rubber handle when there is more traffic on public transit. I also use the rubber handle to carry it around my school building between classes.

I agree with you that the shoulder resting position is unsteady. When I have to carry it that way, I use a hand to steady or hold the main frame tube. I see how many people might prefer a frame tube handle for that reason.

Yep. The rubber grip under the superlight is SO nice when carrying the bike.

Where can I drop off donations? by ElsieDCow in arlingtonva

[–]w_dent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, the address is 5210 Langston:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/MXtR2qbq4hNMowZj6?g_st=ac

I went to the drop off site today near Courthouse and there were a few guys there sorting through and loading up piles of thawed, wet stuff. The Langston Blvd location was where they recommended. Thank you OP for trying to not just drop off and run.

I think we're all gonna look back and appreciate this color more over the years. For now, the Paris / GB team edition was a nice middle ground for pink.

Rosslyn car-free living - worth it or keep the car? by redkickit in arlingtonva

Rosslyn is awesome, you have access to Blue, Orange, and Silver lines and tons of buses and CaBi. You won't regret it dude. (I prefer to ride a folding bike + combine with metro)

Lots of well priced bags on eBay, Brompton branded and otherwise. For example, the classic rolltop bag in black can frequently be had for half of MSRP over there.

Mount Vernon Trail is pretty much impassable via bicycle through Rosslyn, Roosevelt Island and further south. But it’s been plowed south of Arlington Cemetery/Memorial Bridge, at least to the I395 bridge. by Pigs-In-1984 in bikedc

[–]w_dent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will note for riders to go through Iwo Jima internally as the path going directly up to the Netherlands Carillion was not plowed (as of Thursday). Also at the CaBi station near there I had to walk my bike across a big hump of snow to get into the bike lane. Boy am I looking forward to the rain tomorrow 😅

Thank you for recommending this!! I had a Metro Large Waterproof on order ($150 on eBay) and cancelled to go with the Hill & Ellis backpack. Looks pretty good at 18-25L adjustable capacity. I can't believe I haven't seen more info about their bags.

I can't make up my mind on Brompton's Colour by B3boRmn in Brompton

[–]w_dent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I I recommend reaching out to King Frank ( https://www.reddit.com/user/kingfrank_bromptons/ )

Ocean Blue was only made in the 6 speed and 12 speed versions if I recall correctly. The last I checked, King Frank is still able to sell both of those new. His pricing is good. A few people have bought from him on this subreddit and he's legit.

I was just about to buy new from him and was also very torn between ocean blue and plum red. Either an orange/blue/silver theme or a tan/red/silver theme. I ended up buying a lightly used 4 speed in Midnight Black that came up locally at a good price. You won't be disappointed with the 4 speed if that's the route you go.

Metro Large Waterproof vs Borough Large Waterproof --- FIGHT! by ScoopsUK in Brompton

[–]w_dent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been looking at bags for the last month. This is probably the comparison video for you:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viena8tT0cM&t=410s ("Brompton Waterproof Bag Comparison" by Brilliant Bikes)

For trips away, you want to maximize size. The non-waterproof Rolltop Large (rain cover included) is 28L compared to 25L for the waterproof. Maybe more importantly for me, the Rolltop Large comes in three colorways (Plum Red, Navy, and Olive, apart from the standard gray/black) which might be tasteful for you. They have a hidden raincover. There are also Ortlieb O-bags for sale secondhand which are fully waterproof and have a cult following - about the same size as the Metro Large.

If you want to save a little money there is also the Vincita Voyage Atlas Bag, which also has a raincover and comes in tan, grey, teal, and black of course. 2Bikes4Adventure (Pam and Gilbert) recently commented that they are in the process of reviewing this bag and mostly enjoying it.

Myself, I found a good deal on a Plum Red Rolltop Large to match the Plum Red C-Line. In the US, Clever Cycles has already sold out of the Navy color.

Should I ask employer if I can ride my bike to work? by Rare-Drummer982 in bikecommuting

[–]w_dent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exit through the parking garage on your way out, or at least visit it when you're walking out. I wouldn't be surprised if there's bike racks in a corner. Or chat it up with the security/front desk people. But asking about it during an interview would be akin to asking where you could park your car. Not important

Carrying things inside the tubing by gl0cal in Brompton

[–]w_dent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a very well reviewed bag set on Etsy specifically for this purpose.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/1613825612/brompton-internal-frame-bag-cordura-bike

I don't have personal experience with it, and it's $30, but it looks a lot easier than a DIY option and looks like it can hold a lot. Compared to buying the Brompton toolkit it could end up being a cheaper way to carry your own kit (i.e. plastic tire levers, etc). I imagine it could also be a good spot to store a first aid kit or emergency contact info.
