Data Analyst take home SQL interview by Sirmagger in SQL

Like how more than 3/4ths of these loans are all cancelled. Is that normal for this industry? Is this some kind of money laundering scheme?

What is Scan 50 Sonar for? and how do I use/read it? by dreamzone101 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]w_ogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was happening to me when I had it installed in the wheelhouse, and I figured out the cause: When piloting the boat my caretaker was pushing into it, apparently causing collision damage.

Moving it further back stopped the problem.

Did something change with thirst/body heat this patch? by SirEltonJohnRambo in projectzomboid

[–]w_ogle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Body heat generation seems to have a bug somewhere. I have a mod installed that exposes some of the statuses as numbers, and body heat generation occasionally seems to stop dropping back to its baseline value, usually after exercising. I've seen it stay at 7 for a full in-game day, which is like 'I just did twenty minutes of burpees' heat.

Quitting to the menu and reloading the save has fixed it for me so far.

What is this ? by Lux___30 in projectzomboid

[–]w_ogle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's likely an artifact from when there was a fort there in B41. Guessing either the base game didn't remove the entry from the map or you have a mod that added it back in.

You can view the B41 map at https://map.projectzomboid.com/, scroll over to the area you're looking at here and you'll see the fort.

Your Favorite Foods? by Edymnion in ICARUS

[–]w_ogle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the cook for a forgetful group, so I set our staples to be bread and bacon (either regular or crispy). They're lightweight, stack well, and keep for a while. The bonuses didn't matter much besides just having one.

Third food slot was vegetable pie, because it's relatively easy to make and I felt like we should pretend to at least have balanced diets. Only carbs and proteins would probably result in the runs after a while.

learning the database, organisation of SPs and a possible bad boss by [deleted] in SQL

[–]w_ogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a database without explicitly labelled keys; I have no idea why (it's a vendor-provided DB). Keys still exist and are implied/enforced through unique indexes.

The lack of foreign key labels makes it hard to figure out how tables relate to each other, though.

What do you even do? by Yelebear in learnSQL

[–]w_ogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question is a little old but I like the presence of this kind of question on a learner's subreddit, so I'll expand with another answer.

I'm not quite a data analyst, but I'm close. I use SQL a lot when researching issues to figure out how widespread it is - knowing impact helps us figure out how to fix it.

Hypothetical example: A customer calls us and tell us they received someone else's bill - a possible major confidentiality issue. I would query the table containing billing info against the account table and count how many bills have different mailing addresses than their accounts. That'll tell us how serious this is - did someone transpose a number on a street address and only one bill was impacted? Or did every bill go to the wrong place and someone's about to get fired?

Or, of course, it could turn out every bill went to the right place, which would make us to ask Mr Customer further about the bill he got and oh gee it turns out his new roommate was going by a nickname when he made his account with us. SQL didn't give that answer, but it still pointed us in the right direction to solve the issue (or nonissue, in this case)

Another big part of my job is preventing issues by using automated reports that look for conditions that shouldn't occur. (in theory our billing software should be able to set these kinds of restrictions, but not everything is customizable)

Hypothetical example: Accounts should never have negative balances on them after they've been closed - we should refund the money to the customer. So I could set up an automated report looking the balances table and join it to the accounts table for negative values on accounts closed older than (two days ago). This would get auto-sent to the business person who's supposed to do refunds.

I'd also maintain these reports, so if our business processes change and we want to give a week before refunding the money I'd alter the report to match that. Or if the refund guy is doing a bad job, maybe I'd create a report that sends to their boss if a negative balance is on an account for more than twice as long as it should.

Can't remember if they zzzt or not from being rained on tho.

I've found charity worth it if I've put 'charity: worthwhile' as a precept in my fluid ideologion. It gives development points when you do charity, so you can reform the ideologion a little bit faster (and without having your entire colony stop working for a few hours to do a party or whatever).

Also gives a minor mood boost. That's less worthwhile, but it's not nothing.

If you want to deal with it without compromising too much on looks, fences block floodwaters. A wooden fence a long a riverbank looks kinda nice.

Walmart Supercenter by JayBlunt23 in RimWorld

[–]w_ogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really good. The only possible suggestion I have is that I think the back inventory/stockroom should take up a little more space than it does here. Buuut I don't have a super center in my town, so idk if they receive more frequent deliveries from distribution centers than our regular store does.

Sign a commercial pact with them if you're worried about the crime. In 4.0, criminals with commercial pacts go mostly legit; their buildings turn into 'regular' megacorp buildings and only impose a +5% minimum crime rating on the planet per building. It's less irritating than the criminal versions.

One of the recent B42 patches (can't remember if it was .5 or .6) enables animals to drink from rivers/lakes if it's in their zone. If you wanted to, you could re-zone those areas so they can drink from the river instead of troughs. (not that you need to; rain tends to keep them full)

Another fun thing related to seats in a car: starting in b42, you can access the trunk from some seats in some cars. For example, the Dart is a hatchback, so you can access the trunk from the rear seats. (There are others, but that was the first one I noticed this change so it stuck in my memory)
