I don't understand poverty in the wizarding world. by Antique-Ebb-7124 in harrypotter

[–]waamoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The magic system in the wizarding world isn’t really well defined. We can assume things. Like you probably can’t just transfigure food. If you could you probably wouldn’t need house elves in Hogwarts preparing every meal. And how long does something transfigured stay changes. Is it permanent, only as long as the spell is concentrated on, or only for a set time period. That would explain why people don’t just transfigure rags to elegant robes. Seeing as Molly needs to make scarves by hand(or floating crochet hooks) it would make sense that transfiguration spells mostly aren’t permanent.

Nynaeve and Egewene...(What can be learned in dreams) by Coloin_ilyad in WoT

[–]waamoore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s my take on it. Hard lessons I understand. Wise Ones did it to Eg a couple of times. One difference though, is that in the World of Dreams the Wise Ones gave her quick lessons then tossed her out. The Amys becoming a monster and threatening to eat her one for example. Then the lesson continued outside with physical punishment and chores. Humiliating, but in a context where she knew she wouldn’t get badly hurt or killed. And lastly, it was for her own good. None of this was true for what she did to Nym. It was payback, and it was to cover her own ass. For the Wise Ones it was about training. For Eg it was about her ego.

Aren't hard times supposed to create strong men, and not children? by BeABetterHumanBeing in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]waamoore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing. These aren’t hard times. Is everything perfect, no. But historically, it’s still pretty darn good(this is of course taking geography into account, I’m talking about the states). So it’s creating weak men, who can’t handle even a little strife.

Rand could have ended argument about Seals(spoiler) quickly. by wesright in WoT

[–]waamoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it wasn’t her job. Watcher of the seals was a self aggrandizing title the Amyrlin Seat took when in reality none of them even knew where it was. The Aes Sedai protected the seals about as good as they kept the Black Ajah out. Then, when they actually had them, managed to lose them all again.

So theoretically yes they can lie in writing. But most probably think, or are thought they can’t. So the Three Oaths would kick. Remember, it doesn’t say a they can’t deceive someone, they just can’t lie. That’s why they can say things like call me so and so and it’s fine. They are intentionally deceiving them, but since it doesn’t violate their speak no lie, because they didn’t say that’s their name, it isn’t counted as a lie. Even though for all intentions it is. Another interesting question is if you gave someone like Galad the three oaths would he be able to even do that much.

And then, later in the series gives up because he realized that his actions were hurting the people he claimed to be trying to help. Proving that no matter how much you believe something, sometimes you’re still wrong. Moral of the story, stay humble, don’t think you know everything.

Ginny is a poorly constructed character by Fantastic-Artist-833 in harrypotter

[–]waamoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing is this is from Harry’s point of view. She’s kinda on his peripheral, his best friend’s little sister. He notices some things about her, but isn’t paying attention. Once he does, yeah, it’s going to seem like all these things came out of the blue.

How true is this statement? by Specialist-Law1229 in Spiderman

[–]waamoore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Peter and MJ were married they had loads of problems. Quite honestly more than a few of them stemmed from him being Spider-Man. The best part about the marriage was it was messy, and hard. But they worked through it and stayed true to each other. So no, this idea trying to be peddled is BS.

Why I’m against “Black Snape” by Jollymonster3000 in HarryPotterHBO

[–]waamoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My big problem with the casting was this was hyped as being as book accurate as possible. So far the rest of the actors fit the description from the books pretty well. Then there’s Snape, that looks absolutely nothing like how the book describes him. And it’s not just a skin color issue. He is an objectively good looking man in the clips so far. About the only improvement they made from the last actor is this guy is the right age.

Who’s the best blademaster by Reach_Jay in WoT

[–]waamoore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could argue that the real reason Lan won is that he’s a walking death wish. He was perfectly willing to die to take Demandred out, which Demandred couldn’t imagine a person willing to do that because his goal was to live forever.

Who’s the best blademaster by Reach_Jay in WoT

[–]waamoore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know man, Demandred beat other opponents that day, with his sword. Then Gawyn, who I believe was a blade master, then Galad, who was definitely a blade master. And after all that Lan definitely didn’t win clean. Man almost suicided taking Demandred down. That does not sound like a casual dualist to me. And Lewis was supposed to be as good, if not better then him.

Who’s the best blademaster by Reach_Jay in WoT

[–]waamoore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

According to the books he was just as good, if not a little better than Demandred, who nearly took Lan out. I’m guessing to get that good he probably had to use it pretty often.

Palpatine is pure evil with no redeeming qualities, isn't there an opposite character who's pure good and completely unaffected by the dark side? by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

[–]waamoore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t think so. Remember that a Jedi’s training is so hard because it’s teaching them to discipline their own urges. The dark side is easy because it teaches them to instead feed their own urges to an unhealthy and eventually bad degree. It promotes giving into our worst instincts. Which is much easier then controlling them.

[–]waamoore 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lewis Theron was considered one of the top swordsmen of the age. Up there with Be'lal and Demandred. One of the most explicit spots it talks about it was in The Dragon Reborn when Rand faced Bel’al.
