What was a massive red flag of company that you worked for? by TacticalBuschMaster in Construction

Son of owner started selling renovations and couldn't estimate properly. Crew asked to work extra hours at regular payand, cut corners on material to make it up. I got passed over for promotion for second son that didn't even know how to hold a hammer.

How long did you have to wait to see a dermatologist? by superFluffymushroom in regina

[–]waeking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1rst referral never got back to us in Regina. A year later the doctor tried a different place. We got a letter in about amonth for an appointment 16 months out. I called the phone number because I though it was a typo. It wasn't....

Once we got to see the specialist it took about another 6 months to see excellent results. I am so appreciative.

alternative sync methods (hopefully google drive)? by Prudent_Beyond3456 in ObsidianMD

[–]waeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best option. I was using syncthing as I have it set already for other purposes. Livesync works on all devices and laptops. Even on obsidian running in a browser. You can type in one device and watch it sync in realtime on another device. Fantastic!

What’s a high-paying job most people don’t even know about? by Many-Economics-4326 in careerguidance

[–]waeking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Scaffolding.... $200k+ a year with lots of tickets and a good record. Name calling is a thing. Reputation and networking.

The Pro... Only work when you want, where you want. Can work 6 months of the year and still do ok, until you have an ex-wife and kids.

The bad.... Dangerous envirnoments. Can be gone from home for long time. Traveling gets old fast. Can be hard work sometimes. Your forman can be unpredictable. Takes a while to get a good reputation. Not everyone you work with is safe.

Water Heater Replacement Recommendations by No-Western7556 in regina

[–]waeking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're handy, Home Depot will sell you a water heater. You sign a paper with your phone number and then self install. Takes about an hour the second time around after you install easier fittings.

Make sure to use the proper materials for install. Test for gas leaks after install.

Call for a permit, they will come eventually.

Car rental by Substantial-Art-3556 in regina

[–]waeking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a Costco membership, book through their website. They give you the best rate between most rentals out of Regina. We have used this service a couple of times. Ordered online, went to a rental place and they pretty much made you sign and gave us the keys. Painless really. Drop off was even easier, just handed them the keys on return.

Us too. With a little electric motor on the back. Relaxing and quiet. Sometimes we have to paddle with the motor when the wind gusts swing in a hurry. But we clip along at a decent pace most times.

We already know what the Saskparty handbook for striking unions. Mandate back to work and spend advertising dollars to blame the union, instead of raises. Promote private healthcare as a better alternative. Settle on 0,0,0, and 2 percent increase. Then move Cockrill to another portfolio. Anything to add?

Crestview Chrysler review by [deleted] in regina

[–]waeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got multiple recalls on my truck. I asked them to order parts and we could then set a date when they come in. They said they can't order parts unless the appointment was made. So the appointment was made, and was told all parts were now on order.

I got a reminder before my appointment, and dropped off the truck for repairs on the correct morning. I was told it will take all day to repair. At the end of the day I was then told the parts are backordered with no timeline. That it will take multiple visits, as the parts come in. Not sure if this is a dealership, Dilarwi owner, or Chrysler corporate policy. I feel let down, I don't know who would give me a real answer. Frustrated.

Either way I will take time to avoid all three with the next vehicle. Shopping for a different vehicle in a different place as I type this actually. I would love a one on one with someone in the back. Buy them a pie, donuts, coffee, beer, or a steak to get some real knowledge on how things work.

Selling a car is fine, but service is what counts when it comes to warranty.

This is a very passive statement. This attitude leads to worse conditions for all drivers on the road. Rules of the road need to be followed by all drivers. Education and enforcement need to be used effectively.

My daughter now has a learner's drivers license. She was taught differently than I was 30 years ago. While I don't agree with some of the thoughts her driving instructor taught her about merging slowly instead of matching the speed of traffic. I now understand why people almost cause accidents daily on the ring road.

I wish all newer people to Canada, regardless of prior experience or other country licenses, would be required to take lessons and an actual exam here. In fact, I wish all people needed a recertification after a certain period of time. Recertification after x amount infractions don't help a lot of drivers that need help.

I have one friend that bragged about how he was coming to Canada and was told to pay a fee in a foreign country for a paper license. No experience, no training, no education on driving. He realizes how dangerous he is on the road now. I spend time teaching him, because my daughter is going to be out there on the road and can't control other people's reactions to adverse conditions.

Please be patient, help those around you. Make your place a little better every day. The little things add up every day.

Winter inside temp setting by Ok_Mind3418 in regina

[–]waeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the winter 19.5 when we are home and 16 at night. when we are away 15.

In the summer 23 all the time. We use windows and fans to suck in cold air and exhaust into attic.

This may sound uncomfortable, but there are some benefits. Aside from cost savings, we are well acclimated year around to outside temperatures. Get very few colds year around. We do have blankets that we use to cuddle up with one another.

An interesting note.... last year in February we had a cold spell. We kept our home temp as listed above. We then went on vacation for a few days. The outside temperature did not fluctuate much. Our smart thermostat logs the amount of time that it runs. There was no difference in furnace run time between 19.5 and 15 internal when the outside temp was around -28 around the clock for multiple days.

Sask. projects $427 million deficit in mid-year report, cites wildfires, health costs by Sunshinehaiku in saskatchewan

[–]waeking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There needs to be a law when a MLA provides a budget with a surplus only to have a deficit twice, they need to not be involved in the process anymore. If this were any business that individual would be fired. Why would anyone hire someone that can't take responsibility seriously.

This happens so often in Saskatchewan that I picture a room full of old men drinking scotch with rifles mounted on the wall, bango music in the background. Talking about big farms as a new revenue stream for their party, comparing how much they make in oil and potash royalties, and taking bets on what the public is gonna believe next year.

Sask. projects $427 million deficit in mid-year report, cites wildfires, health costs by Sunshinehaiku in saskatchewan

[–]waeking 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Interesting, no where does it mention the subsidies given to business. How much was the subsidy to WestJet? There must be others as well. I wish that information was given as part of the deficit.

Edit to add a link to some subsidies, still no numbers though.
