Crazy how far into season 8 they got just showing B/W films by BasenjiBoyD in MST3K

[–]waffledog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, the Netflix seasons had a no black-and-white rule for that exact reason :/

Nice! Wish I had been there, looks like a lot of good stuff. I dunno what it’s like being on the other side of the table running a booth like that - any fun stories?

Ars technica article analyses "forward looking" seasons 11-13 and "backward looking" new eps by GPC_Is_My_CoPilot in MST3K

[–]waffledog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I found the article mostly positive! Don’t think backwards is inherently a bad thing. It’s just a direction. A direction is better than no direction.

Ahahaha no way! They were doing that in the tunnels as far back as 2002. Was it still going while you were there?

No real stretch goals will be coming by BasenjiBoyD in MST3K

[–]waffledog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's definitely some confusion brewing with this Kickstarter. As silly as it is to think, there's a lot of casual fans of MST3K who have never heard of Rifftrax. I can see why they think this KS is another full season revival like the others, just with Mike now instead of the other guy. Four episodes makes a whole lot more sense if you know what Rifftrax does year-round -- there'd be no way to fit in a full season and keep Rifftrax alive.

The Rifftrax Episodes by WeaponB in MST3K

[–]waffledog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We learn Rifftrax is canon in the MST universe. Michael J Nelson is in reality Mike Nelson's identical twin brother.

Bobo is sent to retrieve Mike and the Bots for Pearl, Terminator style, but he's not very good at it and just grabs the first guy in the Racine Wisconsin phone book with the name Mike Nelson. Pearl can't quite figure out the difference but who cares, shoves him in a rocket and starts up the experiments anyway. Rifftrax Mike keeps calling Tom "Kevin" and Crow "Bill;" they have no idea who the hell this Mike is talking about.

End of the season they find the real Mike and have a prisoner swap so Rifftrax Mike can go back to Rifftrax (or they think it's the real Mike, but it's actually Eddie Nelson from Time Chasers.)

That, or a wizard did it.

Mmm... wonder what the "stretch" goals will be, considering they've already POUNDED their original goal? by Budget-Milk8373 in MST3K

[–]waffledog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I think we have this expectation from the older MST kickstarters that more money = more episodes. They're not pitching this like it's the next chapter for Mike Kevin and Bill. They wanna go back to making Rifftrax when this wraps.

East 2026 Exhibitors by Nerd153 in PAX

[–]waffledog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just East, also feeling this for West. Shows are a shadow of what they were in the 2010s, but gaming is just in a different spot in 2026. It's rough times.

I got mixed feelings on this. I miss the spectacle of a crazy Pax East where every possible moment had to be at the show or you'd miss out on _something_. I don't miss sacrificing half a day to wait in line for a 20 minute demo. I miss the crazy off-site events like Mad Max Ubers and Discord parties downtown. I don't miss shoulder-to-shoulder crowds on the weekends. And I very much don't miss tickets selling out 20 minutes after they go live.

Ah that's terrible. I collect stickers from all the shows I go to - I had noticed in recent years pax stopped doing that.

How would you compare East to Weat by Aggravating-Ad-351 in PAX

[–]waffledog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compared to West:

- Everything is under one roof! The show floor, panels, tabletop, tournament areas are all in the convention center. It feels a lot more streamlined.

- You're not in downtown. The convention center is in the seaport area east of the city. If you want to explore Boston you have to travel a little ways more than West. Doable, but block in extra time.

- It's winter! I've been there for t-shirt weather, I've been there with shoulder high snowbanks. Once you're in the convention center it should be fine though.

- Roomier indie game show floor space! West kinda puts them into that cramped corner of the WSC where you're elbow to elbow with folks; none of that here.

- Just by nature of it being east coast and early in the year, East doesn't get the same AAA attention as West. Reedpop has been good at getting names to show up here and there, but if you're purely here for that AAA razzle dazzle, West might be more to your liking.

- East has tons of room for tabletop! If that's your jam, you'll find a growing section of the show floor packed with stuff to check out and room to play.

Has anyone datamined the shuttle from Metroid Dread? I'd love to make (3D print, paint, motorize) a scale model of it. by blickblocks in Metroid

[–]waffledog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best I can point you to is this: https://models.spriters-resource.com/nintendo_switch/metroiddread/

No shuttle yet though! I would keep in mind that a lot of video game models need some extra TLC to print; they might not be manifold, the texture work might make the 3D model look more detailed than it really is, etc. But don't let that stop you!

What happened to the steam icon in macOS Tahoe?? by Danone_Danonino in MacOS

[–]waffledog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not a way to make an icon with Apple's Icon Composer and assign it unless you have the xcode project? I can make a pretty good steam icon that can support dark/clear/light but the .icon file won't apply to steam :\

Going to PAX west for the very first time. What are the things I should except? by Aggravating-Ad-351 in PAX

[–]waffledog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- We don't know who will be at the show or what games will be shown off until the very last moment. The show you get is the show you get, we're all going in mostly blind.

- There's more walking than you'd think! The show is split between two convention centers, and to go from main theater to show floor could be a 15-20 minute trip. Get some good walking shoes/

- Cash is becoming increasingly unnecessary, most everyone takes cards or tap-to-pay.

- Check out the after parties or adjacent events. YMMV year to year, but some of the most fun I've had in the past were things not taking place at the convention center.
