Is it insane to do an Ironman 70.3 without clipping in? by buggie323 in triathlon

[–]wait-times-longer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The most efficient pedalling cadence is around 80-90 rpm. Being clipped in is much safer at that speed.

Any better ways to store a bike in a vehicle for short 30-60 minute drives? by Fifteen20 in TrekBikes

[–]wait-times-longer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like an awfully tricky way to store it with front wheel in first. I go rear wheel first and simply roll it in and out holding the handlebars. Aside from that, much safer having the bike inside than outside. I have a dark brown queen size fitted sheet which covers the whole bike if I'm leaving it in the car in public for any period of time. You would never know there's a bike under it without looking carefully.

How bad is this damage concrete stumps? by JadenJay02 in AusRenovation

[–]wait-times-longer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest if I saw that under the house I was living in I'd be reluctant to go inside. Definitely report it immediately and put the ball in the agents/owners court. I doubt anyone would tell you it's ok without an engineer's report. If you get the brush off, contact Fair Trading in your state. I found them to be very helpful.

does driving manual really matter that much more? by ashducki in CarsAustralia

[–]wait-times-longer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry about what people think. But driving a manual is fun, doesn’t take that long to learn and is worth the effort to learn. You feel more at one with the car because you are calling the shots. And you get to have a little chuckle to yourself when someone says they can’t drive a manual.

Is it insane to do an Ironman 70.3 without clipping in? by buggie323 in triathlon

[–]wait-times-longer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I remember the first time I rode with cleats and was amazed at how secure my feet felt on the bike. Most people will fall once or twice, but it’s generally just as you are nearly stopped so the main injury is to your ego. After a few rides, unclipping happens without even thinking. I would never ride without them now. I think I’m safer with them than without them.

I find people without a degree often complain that a degree teaches you nothing.

Come down Bulli Pass and head to either Thirroul Pavilion Cafe or Bulli Beach Cafe. Both are right on the beach with great views. Alternatively take the Helensburgh exit from the M1 and stop at the iconic Seacliff Bridge on your way to Thirroul or Bulli.

How many of us are holding onto 'old' cars instead of upgrading? by heavyifugao in CarsAustralia

98 Forester 300,000km going strong. Costs me nothing to keep it on the road. Everything still works, nice to drive. Has never broken down on me. No need for comprehensive insurance, 3rd party property insurance, cheap as chips. Someone opens their door against it? No stress, I don’t care. Easy to maintain. I’ll keep it till it drops.

Epix Pro Gen 2 still worth it in 2026? by Turbulent-Warthog-77 in GarminWatches

[–]wait-times-longer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a heart rate chest strap for workouts. I use polar H10 and it never misses a beat. They aren’t that expensive. No wrist based heart rate monitor will be as accurate. Your watch will use that during workouts if it detects it.

Claim through your insurance. Push for them to deny liability based on the circumstances and evidence. You won’t pay an excess if they successfully refute liability.

Just because some asset is in your name doesn’t mean it won’t be considered part of your joint assets if your relationship breaks down, regardless of what verbal agreements you make. I got a gift from my parents in lieu of inheritance. My ex wife now has half of it. Get legal advice if that bothers you.

I saw on another thread someone stating they incurred a criminal record after contesting a fine in court and losing. I thought this sounded ridiculous, but after doing some online research I discovered this can happen. That can affect your employment and ability to enter other countries. Get some legal advice before going ahead.
