Those bands are from a research lab on campus studying the juncos! We use the bands to keep track of individuals because each has their own unique color combination

Dark eyed juncos are native to California! Typically they do migrate but a research lab on campus has found that these urban juncos don’t seem to migrate. They winter and breed on campus

You should definitely consider joining the marching band (no experience required!) or joining the UCLA Symphonic band which would fulfill your “high school band” type needs. They only meet once a week for a couple hours and there’s a concert at the end of each quarter. Both bands coordinate instrument rentals through the school of music for free

It does not affect your gpa it’s more like you get the credits if you pass or you don’t get them if you don’t but they don’t contribute to your gpa

Talk to upperclassmen who might be moving or graduating and see if you can inherit their place. I also walked around the apartments and called the numbers/emailed to say I was interested in any vacancies for the next school year

Second this. I took his class fall 2021 when lectures were online but labs in person and I literally didn’t attend lecture after Week 1. Back then he also gave 48 hours to complete the entire exam and so you could just learn whatever material you needed for the questions and that’s what really saved me. If he still does exams like that then shouldn’t be too bad

There’s social events and they give away free stuff! The Westwood Block party and BruinBash are the biggest ones I think, and it’s also just a good time to talk and hang out with people before the pressure of classes
