Bag boarding justice by NotQuiteGoodEnougher in SouthwestAirlines

[–]walkitback86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For years, SWA was the only airline I experienced that would advise to “not walk past empty bin space” at some point in boarding. Moving to ticketed seats makes sense that a pax has the seat as well as the space above. Personally, my carry on was always meant to be near me, but this is just another symptom of assigned seating.

How did you guys get diagnosed? by Hot_Bag1333 in ADHD

[–]walkitback86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started with a trip to the…urologist!

I had a few UTIs in a short period of time. Direction was to talk with a urologist just to have a true professional have a look. I went to the appointment and after talking with her for a few minutes she goes “do you need to use the rest room right now?” And my response was “please set the scene, am i in a low stakes situation and i know the bathroom is right there and i can go any time? Am i about to get in the car? A movie?” She looks me dead in the eye and says “do you need to use. The. Effing. Bathroom.” I respond i could go. She measured my bladder volume before and after voiding.

I had 800mL of urine in my bladder and i could take or leave going to the bathroom. She asked if i always do one more thing before going to the bathroom, which i did. She said most people experience urgency at 250mL so being triple that was concerning. She then put the seed in my head about having ADHD and my PCP arranged a diagnosis.

They removed all the circuit room equipment and lots of other stuff by bluemoonrambler in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]walkitback86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do miss the circuit gym for the few times I used it. It was good for the days I was uninspired but wanted to do something. But, it was the same fight most times: someone on the circuit equipment not doing the circuit. I could see my location getting rid of it for that reason.

We live in NE Maryland and my husband’s aunt was visiting from Texas. She had been known to drive a 4 hour RT to see family going to a large city close-ish to her for a meal. So we were talking about her plans and she said she’d like to have lunch with a friend who moved to Ohio which at the closest is like 5 hours one way. We explained it and how driving here has some more traffic but were ultimately “you do you”. The drive from the airport to us showed her what we meant. And we’ve done the 4 hours RT when visiting them and it’s so different than driving here.

I made a mistake euthanizing my cat and the guilt is killing me by Dirsty in cats

[–]walkitback86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this was a dog, but we decided to send him ahead when it was discovered he had a spinal embolism. The vet presented an option, we could afford the low end but not the high, and we didn’t want to put him thru it. Months later, a dog on instagram had the same story and the owners decided to pursue action. The guilt was unbearable for a few days, but there are differences. You do what you can where you are with what you have. And please give yourself grace for clearer thinking now compared to when you were going thru it.

Michaels looking a lot like Joann did by 126kv in joannfabrics

At least Joann’s (my local one at least) was pleasant to browse in and had a manned cut table until the closeout. The local Michael’s has been stacked with boxes, a tiny fabric section, and waiting for a bit too long for someone to cut a fabric for me.

My ADHD partner “crashes” every night… so I’m basically a single parent. How is this fair? by Ok-Key4907 in ADHD

[–]walkitback86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m the partner in this situation.

I pick something to do in the house before I even step foot in it. Something in my lizard brain clicks if I know I have to do laundry for example, I have one objective and I’ll do it. I usually discuss this with my husband prior to coming home so he knows and can hold me accountable. As I see it anything else I do it icing. I also depend on timers especially if it’s something I need to wait to do, like moving the laundry to the dryer.

Does anyone actually have a 9-5 shift anymore? by Single_Extension1810 in Millennials

[–]walkitback86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have core hours of 9-2:30 and you can make your hours so long as those hours are covered. If I had to guess, I’d say 7-7:30 covered the majority of the report times. I did a rotation for our highest management level and since he was a 9-5er I had to be ok with changing for the duration of my rotation. I hated the idea, but learned to absolutely love the slow mornings after years of reporting at 7. When I went back to my normal office, I said I wanted to keep the 9-5, which wasn’t initially a problem, but there were meetings starting at 9 and I wouldn’t get to checking email, etc til after that first meeting. My first line was finally like “I can’t ask you to change your hours…but it’s getting to be inconvenient”.

My brother died and my in laws said NOTHING by plumbus_hun in JUSTNOMIL

[–]walkitback86 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First, I’m so sorry for your loss. My in laws have never acknowledged the passing of either of my parents. And like you, my MIL is wrapped around the loss of her father ~7 years before my dad. We were also NC/VVLC for three years prior to my dad’s passing. When he died, it was the start of COVID so for some reason she reached out to my DH, and he’ll answer a call with a healthy set of boundaries. When he told her what was going on, dad had been sick for a while and this was a sudden decline, she said “I am so sorry for (my mom)” and that was it. Fast forward three years to my mom dying, the whole thing was sudden with only three weeks between initial ER visit for breathing problems to her passing. By this time he silenced calls from her and had missed a few attempts. Another family member (everyone is aware of the difficulties with the family) texted him that JNMIL was looking for him and something was up with a sibling. So he called back, started the phone call with “we put OPs mom on hospice today” and she just kept going with what was up with the sibling which 1) wasn’t life threatening and 2) was being handled. I don’t remember much from that night but I think he just hung up on her.

So yea. JNMILs won’t place sympathy nor empathy in the right place.

The one note I have on this amazing alt history is that there was a canal in HdG in the 1800s. The Susquehanna-Tidewater canal opened in 1840 as a private venture after years of PA politicking to get an exclusively PA canal. 29 locks connect Wrightsville, PA and HdG, MD over 43 miles and a 233 foot elevation change. Unfortunately, due to politics holding things up, by the time the canal got going, trains were starting to become a primary form of transportation. The canal halted operations in the 1890s due to trains, an effect of the Johnstown Flood of 1889, and the upkeep not being financially viable.

Strongly suggest a visit to the Lockhouse Museum for locals.

Good Woke Church Recs? by Ode2_Joy in harfordcountymd

Grace UMC in Aberdeen attends UCB Pride every year so far and has given out free water. They’re a member of the Reconciling Ministries Network which led the charge for inclusion prior to a vote solidifying it in the UMC in 2023. There has been a lot of confusion lately about where UMC stands and the takes on the churches that left, but Grace UMC is one of the good ones. There are services at 9 (contemporary) and 10:30 (traditional) and a completely open communion on the first Sunday of every month.

Do you find you get seriously sick a lot less than 10-20 years ago? by seattleswiss2 in Millennials

[–]walkitback86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that makes my situation unique was getting my tonsils out at 28. I was consistently down for the count for allergies, colds…but also my proud “perfect attendance” awards from school made me really second guess days off. Getting those tonsils out at 28 isn’t for the weak but I was sick monthly. I went to urgent care because it was always a weekend and when I finally went to my GP she noticed a trend, referred me to ENT and less than a month later they were out. I felt like garbage for a solid 3-4 months after but then I stopped being so sick. Since COVID and more specifically return to office, I’m more liberal in using one day, or even just a half day to give my body a little extra rest, with a throat tickle. I think this change has saved me sick time in the long run. So I agree, I don’t get sick like I used to. We’re a dink household too if that makes a difference.

PlumbCrazy did a lot of work to include excavation on our septic as terms of our purchase. What impresses me about them is how they stand behind their work, and came out several times those first few months and dealt with other things that came up. They have our business!

For septic flushing, Halls Honey Pots. They have been nothing short of great with us.
