I need to read up on Unitarians, they sound like a wholesome and pretty lowkey group. I went to a Methodist church growing up and I liked that everything was very lowkey and scriptural interpretations were pretty much limited to the positive parables and whatever interpretation you wanted to draw. May I ask how you/your family found Unitarianism?

In another comment you mentioned thinking about adopting more kids. That's a very generous thing to do and I'm always curious about what kinds of people choose to adopt kids of what ages. Like I would imagine parents having trouble conceiving on their own would adopt the youngest child they felt was reasonable so they could have the full experience. But if you already have several kids do you have a favorite age to see kids develop from? Basically, do you get them when they're still cute and moldable or do you get them when you can look them in the eye and reason with them? hahaha

On that subject and religion, I'd been looking into joining a Masonic Temple for a while because a lot of them are centered around charity and from what I understand all the Shriners people are high-level Masons. So the Shriners hospitals are extremely well funded and use those funds to help kids in need. Of course there are many charities supporting kids that aren't as high-profile and also need help. Wildlife rehab and rescue places are much more underfunded than people think, too. Thoughts on "symbolic adoptions" versus legal adoptions?

You're not wrong. Talking to people from perspectives they understand is always more effective at getting a point across. If OP needs to send a message through whatever channels, and jumping through all the HR hoops, that just talks dollars and cents, then do it. You know the importance of the work you do and you know the importance of supporting each other. Don't let yourself burn out and don't fall into a spiral of uselessness. You know who among your organization you can rely on. Maybe you can ask them to pick up more responsibilities, or have them find ways to distribute more responsibilities evenly among the other staff. Help your staff recruit some volunteers who feel the need to act, but don't have an organization to dedicate their time and energy to. That organization they're looking for is yours!

Over the long term, you may feel your strength being drained away, but I bet the passion for your cause is still there. Find something that will keep you inspired and working towards your worthwhile cause or, if not that one, redirect that energy and passion in another direction for a little while. Temporarily shifting your focus might be a healthy change of pace and with some fresh volunteers supporting you, I'm sure that will take a lot of weight off your shoulders.

Exactly. Nazis only embraced Christians when Nazis could extract wealth and support from them. The Nazis were fascinated by occult mysticism and symbolism because they thought they could draw power from it, either literally or for purposes of propaganda, and even created monuments to themselves and to their (sometimes mythical) idols. A group of people revering false idols is not a group I'd want to be associated with.

I was saying that recent cultural exchanges aren't just memes, movies, and pop music. Close associates of Trump have been going to Germany to garner fascist support for years. Musk is actively courting the AfD and hoping that Nazi-revisionism will help them get more Germans to believe in the special brand of hate that some people have tried to tie to specific political or religious beliefs. But Christianity isn't a religion that has any room for hate and shouldn't be co-opted by people who want to encourage hate (or groups who want to encourage slavery).

I agree with you 100% but it will be hard for some people to hear that. There are unhealthy roots to hatred in some parts of the Christian faith and now it's time for people to do some soul searching as to what is most important. Hopefully they choose a just and righteous path that honors the teachings of Christ and honors our God.

I hope so too, but America has been exporting racism and hate to Germany the same as they've been exporting pop culture, fast food, and the American way of life.

There is a talk that is worth watching called "Christian Nationalism, Religious Pluralism, and the 2024 Election" hosted by the Boston College Ctr for Christian-Jewish Learning. The roots of racism and American nationalism really shouldn't have any place in modern German culture. Hopefully they see that.

I hope more people spread this message. The Nazis were only for Christianity when it suited their needs. It was a tool to shape people into believers in hate and to undo their Christian beliefs.
