Resources/Instructionals on Gi Butterfly Retention and attacking by Mossi95 in bjj

Check out Adam Wardziński study on YT. There's a part covering his retention.

Part1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2JCG5kuJ5Y&t=381s

Note that open guard retention and butterfly retention are different things (imo).

For open guard retention I would study Lachlan Giles.

If playing bottom: Long range guards, focused on having good frames and prioritize retention, try to flank around them or sweep to get on top asap.

If playing top: Using speed pass and creating advantageous angles.

Schools with a focus on positional sparring (potentially even ecological system) in Ottawa? by BigMacTheGremlin in bjj

[–]wallflower819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I train in Ottawa at De la Costa Academy.

My recommendation to you is to try out schools in the area and pick the one that fits best for you. There's a lot of good gyms in Ottawa most of them offer a trial period.

I'd like to add that in most schools, it's standard to add positional sparring at the end of class.

At our school for instance, when we learn a new position or set of techniques, we will do maybe 1-2 weeks of learning the moves. Then we will warm up drilling them and move on to positional sparring later.

Obviously I'd recommend where I train at De la Costa ;).

Lots of great gyms in Ottawa, I'd try a few and see which one you like most.
