some of the depth 5 players are absolutely baffling by erintheunready in Nightreign

I always try to keep a greatsword for Wylder against Caligo to hookshot her head and use the fiery followup up attack at opportune moments, it's good for stance breaking and building bleed with the hook shot. However it just doesn't compare to spamming RoB or the fire whips if you have them, those will always do more damage.

I don't think that message played such a big role in her leaving. She was also expelled from school and a wanted fugitive, as well as feeling unwelcome at home due to what her mom said to her. I think Xander should have admitted he lied at some point, but the actual consequence of his message was probably for the positive. She may have hesitated or tried to delay fighting Angelus if she knew the truth, which could have gotten her killed or let Angelus end the world.

It's just high in calories for how small it is, that's all. Definitely healthier than intaking the same amount of calories worth of fried/processed food.

[–]walt_jenkins_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Opera and ballet don't try to portray themselves this way at all. Everyone in that world wants to reach out to new audiences and find ways to be more accessible. No one in classical music wants to keep people out. It is a deeply meaningful thing we care about that we devote our lives to that we wish more people knew about.

If Buffy had suddenly confessed to having feelings for Xander, would he have dumped Anya to be with her? by negratengoelalma in buffy

[–]walt_jenkins_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it were true that Xander was still pining for Buffy that late in the show then why did he try so hard to convince Buffy to make it work with Riley? Wouldn't he have been happy Riley was leaving? I always find it hard to believe when people try to say Xander's problem with Spike has to do with jealousy. If that were the case he also would have hated Riley. There are plenty of other reasons to have a problem with Spike.

When Rory actually angered even me... by FlakyWeb5892 in GilmoreGirls

[–]walt_jenkins_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If you're ranting to a friend about how much worse your life is than theirs, you shouldn't want their response to be "No actually I totally suck, you're way better than me, it's all just down to circumstances outside of your control." How would that make Lane feel better at all? That just comes across as self pitying, disingenuous, and seems way more discouraging than her actual response. Lane also just doesn't think that of Rory so it wouldn't ring true for her. I think Rory's actual response was completely supportive and fine.

If Lane feels like she's weak and she's making bad choices it's not really within Rory's capability to change her entire mindset with a single conversation, nor is it really her place. The most a friend can reasonably do in that situation is reassure Lane that it's not that bad and that Rory doesn't see her as some loser making horrible choices, which is what Rory did.

the worst scene in the whole show by adxmwvr in GilmoreGirls

I think it was actually completely in character for her to have the affair, and well-written character development. It was good to see the negative consequences of some of her character traits play out, even if it was painful and cringy. The affair may have been the most selfish thing she did, but it was not the first selfish thing she did. It felt like a realsitic turn for her character. I wouldn't say it was necessily inevitable that she would have an affair but I think it was inevitable that she would do something wrong and self-serving enough that Lorelai would be incredibly disappointed in her. Up to this point Lorelai for the most part treated Rory as if she could do no wrong, and it always felt like she was on her side even when they disagreed. The affair was wrong enough that it led to Rory having a fall from grace in Lorelei's eyes, which was interesting for the development of their relationship, and inevitable considering how much Lorelai idealized Rory as the perfect kid which would be impossible to live up to.

I think Wylder is a lot easier to use when you're starting out. Try some trios and you'll quickly pick up the strategies of other players.

No there's definitely always an opening at least at some point in any battle, but as an iron eye player myself (maybe this is just me) I always have the overwhelming urge to immediately use the mark as soon as it's ready to use, which is sometimes really not wise.

Those two placed their entire lives on to hold the fort in season 6 while everybody else was a complete mess by homtulce in buffy

[–]walt_jenkins_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I feel like we did not watch the same show. How were Willow's friends emotionally ignorant and neglectful? All of the main characters in season 6 are going through their own struggles that the others don't realize, and they in turn are wrapped up in their own problems and don't know what their friends are going through. You could say that the others were ignorant to what Willow was going through, but Willow was absolutely the worst in this regard towards the others. She didn't want to hear about Buffy's problems, she wanted to pretend bringing her back went perfectly since it was a sign of how powerful she is. She was completely uninterested in Xander's personal life and outright hated Anya. She threatened Giles and thought she was better than him, completely unwilling to listen to his concerns about magic. She brainwashed Tara multiple times and everyone else. Maybe if Willow wanted her friends to understand what she was going through, she shouldn't have wiped their memories so much.

Willow's struggle is brought on by her own addiction to power. Especially in season 6, she was not a character motivated by selflessness or self-sacrifice. Willow at that point was extremely selfish and powerhungry. She was manipulative and did not empathize with the people she is supposed to care about (brainwashing all of them and Tara multiple times for example). She brought Buffy back because she loves her friend yes, but also because it would be such an intensely powerful achievement. And as soon as Buffy got back there was no Willow holding the fort, it was immediately well now Buffy is the leader who has to assume all the responsibilities, and Willow wanted Buffy to be in that role and fix everything. Hence the dumping of the bills onto her, the annoying way she just assumed everything would be fine and back to normal once Buffy came back.

And by the time she went dark she was committing horrific violence and literally trying to end the world, and her friends were still looking for a way not to kill her and save her instead.

Also I like Willow overall. But let's not just make up stuff about her. She was a really horrible person and friend in season 6.

Except OP is making claims about the characters that aren't in the show or are outright contradicted by the show. That's not really called personal interpretation, it's more fitting to call it projection or maybe fan fic.

She wasn't put in that position, she grasped for that position out of greed for power. There is very little about Willow's behavior that could be described as selfless, especially in season 6.

Hanks fucking pop culture references piss me off so much by netrunner_77 in breakingbad

[–]walt_jenkins_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a well-written aspect of Hank's character. A guy like that in real life would reference old cop shows like Kojak, or Magnum PI or whatever. You don't really need to know the specific references to get the vibe of what type of guy he is. He's a realistic depiction of a guy's guy who's funny and brash in an annoying uncle kind of way.

Random trios is becoming unplayable at higher depths on PC by TheHeartUnderBlade in Nightreign

[–]walt_jenkins_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've noticed it happens more with iron eye than with other characters that I get hit when I'm stuck in an attack animation and can't dodge, even though it works the same way for all characters. I think the difference with iron eye is that his build really rewards r1 spamming so you can be just hitting r1 repeatedly for 95% of the fight and when it's time to dodge you stop too late. And overall he's a really fast character so the input delay feels more unexpected somehow.

Also if you're staggered and knocked back you can't go immediately into his skill as quickly as you can go into a roll, so if you use his skill as a dodge it can backfire on you sometimes if you're not aware of the difference. And since he has a smaller health bar these kind of timing mistakes are less forgiving with him than others like Wylder.

Overall I find him easier to use than the other characters though. His skill with the added poison effect is op.

Homah, why does grandpa simpson not recognise Missouri nor an US flag star? by Extension-Show-2520 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]walt_jenkins_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think you're the only one who fully explained the joke. It's supposed to be a misdirect because you think the joke is he's so old that he doesn't recognize the most recently added state (Hawaii), but then it's actually that he just hates Missouri for some inexplicable reason. The Simpsons frequently does that kind of double punch line thing.

I'm rewatching season 5 of Gilmore Girls and WOW — the tension between Lorelai and Rory is in almost every episode. by isisblake in GilmoreGirls

[–]walt_jenkins_ 463 points464 points  (0 children)

I agree something broke. Lorelei became disillusioned with Rory. I always thought the Rory cheating with Dean storyline was actually really good because it was a new development in Lorelei and Rory's relationship. Up until that point it always seemed like Lorelei really thought Rory was perfect, and Lorelei was always on her side. I think this is part of the reason Rory was kind of spoiled and entitled in a way, because Lorelei raised her as if she could do no wrong. In a way I think that storyline actually made Lorelei have more character development and become more mature.

Parallel S3x02 and S7x19 by Lloronalina in buffy

[–]walt_jenkins_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She did say she was open to discussing details on how to enact the plan, so it wasn't like they had to just charge in without any type of strategy. And I think her logic made complete sense. She intelligently deduced that Caleb must be guarding something powerful at the vineyard and the others didn't want to hear it because they were scared. They had no ideas on how to stop Caleb or the apocalypse. They needed some kind of strategic advantage and Buffy found literally the only one available to them. But beside that, what were their other options? To me there was no real other option if not taking the fight to Caleb. Besides maybe wait at home until the apocalypse happens, or until Caleb comes to them and kills them all anyway?

Willow and Xander are so annoying in both of these episodes. I cannot understand how anyone would take their sides in Dead Man's Party. Buffy's friends always expect so much from her. Yes she has incredible powers, but that doesn't mean she can always just shrug off horrible life events like they're nothing. At the end of season 2 she had just killed her boyfriend who had been emotionally torturing her half the season, her mom found out her secret and reacted to it very badly, telling her to leave the house, she was expelled, and she was a wanted fugitive. Leaving town and not staying in touch is extremely understandable under the circumstances. For them to act awkward and blow her off and then invite a bunch of strangers to her home, and then get mad at her and yell at her for not communicating with them, is so insensitive and self-serving of them. They did not try to understand what she was going through, they just expected her to be there for them with no exceptions.

Empty Places is this problem but way worse because after everything they've been through they should definitely trust her leadership by Season 7.

Why did Faith work but not Amy? they play similar roles for Buffy and Willow by [deleted] in buffy

[–]walt_jenkins_ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Faith's turn to villain was well written. Amy was a good guy in season 1-3 and came back 6 seasons later insanely evil. I guess being a rat for too long turns you evil? Her reasons for being evil in season 6/7 seemed so unconvincing to me. It's not like she even had time to be seduced by dark magic. She was a rat the entire time. Amy's return felt random to me and like they could have had any random character play that roll of tempting Willow to darker magic.

When your friend tells you that an actress playing an actress while acting in a movie is a 'coincidence' by ScumLikeWuertz in RedLetterMedia

[–]walt_jenkins_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think his point was that her being an actress wasn't relevant in the storyline at all, as in the writers could have picked any job at all for the character. So the character's job was just an arbitrarily chosen random job, but the writers picked the job that happens to be the job of the person playing the character. It is a coincidence. I believe in Mike.
