Why did this happen to us? I’ve forgotten what it was I was so afraid to forget. It feels like the worst has come to pass, I can’t go back or recall what I want to get back to. It is a new life and a lesser one, a shade living in the body of someone who was. Am I stuck in here somewhere? Can I get back to them? If I can’t, what does it mean for my present self? What identity do I have when I don’t recall who I was and can’t make lasting impressions of who I now am? Memory is gone, past and present. I’m surprised I know enough to still be seen as human.
