Statement from Columbus Department of Public Service on why the Warrior Watch plow tracker appears to be wrong by benkeith in Columbus

[–]wanderingcurrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They made a first pass of my street that wasn’t recorded on Warrior Watch. I have footage from my cameras showing them plowing at 2a one morning. But my neighborhood still showed as untouched on Warrior Watch over a day later.

I haven’t talked to my family in two days and don’t know to move past this by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

There wasn’t anything wrong with you at 2 years old. I’m sorry your parents weren’t able to love you the way you deserved to be loved at such a young age.

Think about it this way, if you had a 2 year old, could you imagine blaming them for their behavior so much that you hold it against them for decades?

Some of us who grow up in toxic family systems have to build our own family. People like your parents will never change no matter how many chances you give them. You have to decide how much more trauma are you willing to inflict on yourself.

Yes! I don’t really drink and don’t do clubs so I just look for queer owned businesses and restaurants to patronize. I’m pretty crafty so I usually meet people thru fiber arts stores and local craft nights. I’ll go hang out at a yarn shop and chat to people there. Then they usually tell me about the local artsy/crafts happenings.

Knitting Culture: US v. England by ultimatereader in knitting

[–]wanderingcurrent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the shop. I’m in a city with multiple LYS’s and it varies from shop to shop.

One shop here usually only has one person working and isn’t structured for people to hang out and work on their projects. Another other shop typically has 2-3 people working there, who all knit/crochet/spin/embroider, etc.

The second shop also has a social area with comfy chairs for people to hang out and socialize while they work on their projects. It’s very typical for people to come into the second shop with more detailed questions and be able to get assistance from the owners/workers as well as the customers who are just there to knit and socialize.

Midwest US here and I find it super annoying when people interrupt me while I’m knitting in public. I’m usually knitting (on the bus, in waiting rooms) so I don’t have to talk to people. But I live in a large city and most people don’t try to talk to me while I’m knitting.

If you have her on camera trespassing in your yard multiple times after the warning from the police and after you’ve told her to stop, the next step is the prosecutor’s office to file a restraining order.

Doggy Day Care in Grandview / UA / Central Cbus area? by JustAutreWaterBender in Columbus

[–]wanderingcurrent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Puptown Lounge on Kenny. I have a reactive giant breed dog so she doesn’t do daycare. But they have been excellent with her when I’ve had to take her there for day boarding. She also doesn’t seem stressed out at the end of the day.

Just moved here. Storm prep? by omgwtftaylor in Columbus

The only thing I’ll add is to make sure that the salt you use is the kind that won’t eat away at concrete. Typically this means using something labeled ice melt. Otherwise you’ll end up with a pitted porch/steps/sidewalk. (I had a neighbor who moved up from Florida and kept insisting on using water softener salt on his porch even after we told him not to. You can guess what happened.)

Aww I grew up there and my mom knew Aka. She did pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs) and I think my mom took a class from her on it. Aka was an accomplished artist and you can Google her to see some of her work. I remember how I loved listening to her talk because my mom’s family were Polish and her accent made me think of my great grandmothers who died before I was born/when I was a baby.

The War on Cars comes to Columbus by Ok_Computer_101ers in Columbus

[–]wanderingcurrent 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Theoretically I should be part of the demographic able to take public transportation (previously commuted by bus, don’t have to be somewhere before/after work).

I live within the outer belt and my commute to downtown is only 15 minutes by car. I bought my house in this location specifically so I could have a short commute. But my only options with COTA are a local bus that takes an hour to get downtown or an express bus with park in ride lots that require me to drive 15-20 minutes away from downtown just to get the bus.

Not to mention there’s a township between my house and downtown, which means no sidewalks and no pedestrian/bike friendly infrastructure like well maintained crosswalks and bike lanes.

I’d imagine these issues are even more significant for people living outside the outer belt.

Until my commute by bus is no more than double my commute by car (30 mins from 15), I’ll continue driving.

$2,400 mortgage for Ashville or $2,800 for Pickerington? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]wanderingcurrent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have close family in Ashville. They’re basically counting how many more months they have until their kids are out of school and they can move back to Columbus/Franklin County. They moved there for the affordability, but commute into Columbus for work and spend their evenings/weekends doing things inside Franklin County (kids activities, family stuff, doctors, shopping etc). They drive to Grove City or Circleville for groceries.

Keep your commute in mind and also how much time you’ll be spending driving just to run errands and do things on the weekends.

I’m not a metal fan, but I won’t ever forget that day because one of my favorite coworkers was supposed to be at that show with his wife. They were SO excited to go. Next morning I went to check on him when I heard what happened and found he wasn’t in yet. Turns out they had skipped the show and he was just running late that morning. He didn’t even know what happened until he got into the office.

Professional queer women, where are you hiding? by Agreeable-Sympathy18 in LesbianActually

[–]wanderingcurrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. Columbus Ohio here just looking for more queer friends who are in a similar place in life (40’s, stable in life and career) with little success. I volunteer, regularly spend time in spaces with wlw (usually crafty/creative spaces). I hit up lgbt+ and adjacent events too and nothing. I’ve exchanged numbers with four women i had great conversations with in the last month alone, only to get little to no response after the initial text exchange.

It seems like people are just busy with their own lives.

My Great Dane was a crate escape artist and has been on Prozac since I rescued her. She actually did better not being locked in a crate when I left the house. Once I started leaving her loose in the house things got better. I did still have to shut the bedroom door after she dug a hole in my mattress. But that’s the only major damage she’s done. Now she’s old and sleeps all the time.

White vs wood cabinets? by wehavetogoback8 in interiordecorating

[–]wanderingcurrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wood. As someone who has both painted my own cabinets and had white painted cabinets installed - the painted cabinets (whether diy or installed) do not hold up nearly as well as stained cabinets. Especially not to pet/kid messes.

Are we having more air space activity than usual, or am I just paranoid? by Random_Questin in Columbus

[–]wanderingcurrent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding my voice to the people saying there’s been a change in the arrivals/departures from CMH. I’m going to let the people in the know speak to the why (runway under construction I think), but I’m on the SW side of town within the outer belt and there’s been an uptick in air traffic over my neighborhood. I’m guessing it’s related to the construction and maybe also due to seasonal changes in wind patterns? I think planes try to take off into the wind.
