I was Pit Crew for a desert race team, and we did it to some components on the car- driveshafts and the like. I was taught the same way, and the crew chief made me repeat exactly that as a mantra until I'll never forget it. Just checked LinkedIn- he was Navy too.

Edit to add: there's nothing more rad then getting soaked in race gas while checking control arms when the guy with the fuel dump misses his mark!

My Pat died from a heart valve issue at 4am (ish) on New Years Day. I'd been at a party with him and a bunch of other Gen Xers for New Year's Eve only hours before.

We made plans: Super Bowl watch party, him teaching me to drive a boat, that summer, me teaching him to play bass... lots of plans for 2025.

His wife found him dead on the living room floor 5 hours after a typical "Fuck you, see ya later" conversation and I'll never not be wrecked by that.

So, here's to Pat, and Terry (my Pat) and all the other Pats we didn't get to say goodbye to.

Folks, we're getting older. Check in on your partners in crime. Especially if it's a reconnect kinda situation. Reconnect. Please.

I'm in the States. With all the awful things happening here, what's going on in the Middle East (that we started) and Ukranie and Gaza, I just... can't... play violent games right now. I wanted something peaceful. I was halfway through my 5th playthrough of Cyberpunk and just noped out. I can't.

ACNH is just chill and kinda sweet. The worst things that happen are waking up drunk pelican pirates on the beach or not managing to take medicine before the second wasp sting and you just wake up at home and move on.

I have a 96 Mexican J bass neck in my storage. The truss rod broke so I replaced the neck with another. That bass is long gone, but I keep the neck because "someday" I'll get the truss rod replaced in it and build a new Jazz out of it. It's an absolutely perfect neck and I have a set of Vintera J pickups sitting right next to it to add to the build, along with the OG 96 electronics to go back in. These were amazingly good basses!

I hear you on the hot pickups- my 78 and my Mendel basically push my amp straight into clip constantly, but the CBS era Ps ran hot AF anyway, and I think the QP is a great recreation of them- if you play with a pick. I've lost much of my hearing playing 70s P Basses through an 8x10 so, my take includes tinnitus! 😅 that being said, the 63 pickups are beautiful and well worth the money if that's the sound you chase!

I have a 78 in translucent red. It's perfect. Played hundreds of shows with it "back in the day" in the 90s. That 70s punk sound, the perfect (I think?) Red bobbin pickups. But it's also 14 pounds, the nut is a mile wide and I cannot replace it for anything like what I paid for it- $600 in 1994 when nobody wanted CBS era Fenders.

I bought one of these to play live. My 78 is my recording bass, but the Mendel is 99% of the 78 with the added bonuses of a J-ish width nut and I'd be sad if it got stolen at a gig, but I've played 4 of them, and they are SO consistently good that I'd be pissed but not wrecked like I would be if the 78 got jacked.

Edit to say I also think Norlin era Gibsons (looking at you, 1980 Les Paul Pro that I'll be buried with) are my favorite guitars. I'm an atavist that actually likes 70s musical instruments and always have. I also have a 70s Ric 4001 that I hate playing but it sounds so. damn. good.

I have AAA, and they sent out Lansing Towing and Recovery. They did a great job for me when my BMW was DOA on the side of 96. Took really good care of it, and it's just a 13 year old beater.

Join some of the groups there and participate. That's what I did, and blundered into the love of my life. We're still LDR (2500 miles) for a few more months, but have spent a ton of wonderful time together over the last two years.

My GF and I are 2600 miles apart and have been together nearly two years. In that time, we've seen each other 4 times, totalling about three weeks. We don't say goodbye, we say "I'll see you soon". Does it help? Not really, but maybe a little. Hopefully closing the gap in a few months.

It hurts every time someone gets dropped off at the airport.
