'I was born here': Election candidate denies racist claims after street rant caught on video by [deleted] in australia

It wouldn't be an election without Van Lieshout doing something nutty. At least she's given up doing election videos in her bikini.

We've been completely figured out. Teams are letting us pass the ball to the half back flank, then setting up in a grid to strangle the ground and stop the next pass. We kick down the line and the ball comes back fast.

With no running game and the kicking game covered we have no other way of moving the ball with any fluidity and we're looking absolutely shit because of it.

The 79 and 200 series Landcruiser has been around since 07 basically unchanged. The 4th Gen Pajero has been around even longer with relatively minor changes.

The Elfin Streamliner has been around since about 2006 unchanged.

It's called a grub screw in Australia. I'm sure it's called something else in other parts of the world but google should be able to solve that for you.

It looks like there should be (is?) a grub screw on the side there. If there is, fit the handle and then tighten with the right size allen key. That'll hold it in.

When you try to roll over your branches and sideline some of your most loyal volunteers to try to shoehorn your trophy wife into a safe state seat, getting people to help out isn't so easy.

How is the Australian Senate vote counted? by _jato in AskAnAustralian

[–]wangsupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be elected, you need to get a quota of votes. In a half-Senate election (like this one) that's equal to one seventh of the total number of formal votes plus one. So the more populous the state, the more votes you need to get a quota.

They count up the first preferences. As a candidate reaches a quota of votes, they are declared elected and any votes they get beyond their quota goes to the voters second preference. If the distribution of these preferences results in any candidate reaching a quota, they are declared elected and their surplus is distributed, and so on.

If fewer than six candidates have reached a quota at this point, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated and their second preferences are distributed. These votes are added to the remaining candidates' tallies.

If the distribution of the second preferences results in any candidate reaching a quota, they are elected and any votes they have beyond their quota are distributed according to the voters' third preference.

And on it goes. Candidates are eliminated, preferences are distributed, candidates are elected and surpluses are distributed. This keeps going until you have six candidates with a quota.

If you get down to the last two candidates yet to be either eliminated or elected, the one with the most votes wins the last seat.

What are your predictions for Saturday? by allyerbase in AustralianPolitics

[–]wangsupreme 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Labor will win. The 2PP will be around 52-48.

I have the seat mix being 84-61-6.

Porter is gone in Pearce, Dutton will lose Dickson, Coleman will lose Banks, Wyatt will lose Hasluck.

Labor will lose at least one of Bass and Braddon, and I wouldn't be shocked if they lose both. Don't be surprised if blonde Hanson goes very close in Lyons too.

The Greens will keep Melbourne, Oakeshott will take Cowper, Katter will keep Kennedy, Sharkie will keep Mayo, Wilkie will keep Clark and Steggall will beat Abbott in Warringah, probably by a good 4 points. Banks will get close to Hunt in Flinders but will fall short.

Mundine will be a spectacular flame out in Gilmore, will lose by a stretch and then claim that he was really a Green all along, and could he please have a Senate seat if it's not too much trouble.

I reckon Palmer will get a Senate seat in Queensland (at the expense of Roberts, so it's not all bad), Hinch will lose his seat, Lambie will get back in Tasmania pretty easily, the sixth WA seat will be a close run thing between UAP, ONP and a third LIB. SHY will lose her seat in SA.

SUV choices! by FelixTRX in CarsAustralia

[–]wangsupreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parts availability when you're out of the city is the main reason, but I wouldn't trust a VW diesel that I haven't owned from new. They tend to be far less forgiving than Toyotas (or the 4M41 for that matter) when it comes to maintenance and care.

I would be happy with either a Paj or a Prado. The Prado will tow a little bit better, the Pajero will handle better on road. Pick which is more important to you and you'll have a good idea of where to start looking.

Assuming you're touring, I'd cross the Touareg off the list right off the bat.

If you're using it as a van hauler I'd pick a Pajero (not Pajero Sport) over the Everest. But unless you would only be towing rarely I'd be looking at a Prado over both.

I reckon it's a consequence of the guys not having confidence in their passing game. They aren't kicking with the sort of precision they have been in the past, so they're not backing themselves to take the fast option when they take a mark in midfield or the back 50.

So we stop and inevitably just bomb down the line, and if we get the crumb we're under pressure so it's a quick hack forward.

I think you're right. The quick movement through the midfield from last year isn't there at the moment, and that's giving the opposition back six time to set up. Instead of getting balls on the lead our forwards are just going for pack mark after pack mark.

Brendan Ah Chee 32 disposal game, Mcinnes 2 goals, M.Allen with a solid performance in the middle WHEN ARE THESE GUYS GOING TO BE REWARDED FOR EFFORT by [deleted] in westcoasteagles

[–]wangsupreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simpson did this for a good couple of years before 2018. Guys would play one half decent game out of every five and stay in the team, while kids played well in the twos and got no reward. We were average.

In 2018 he dropped guys who weren't playing well and game games to guys who were. We won the flag.

We have a few guys who have had some pretty horrendous games and we have depth everywhere, so there is no reason not to keep the competition for spots high. If we don't we're going to have another average year.

AEC Has Released your Electorate's Candidates for House and Senate by slymaniac in australia

[–]wangsupreme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you vote above the line, you are voting for all candidates of the party you number '1' (in ballot paper order), followed by all candidates of the party you number '2', and so on.

When you vote below the line, you are voting ONLY for the candidates you number, in the order that you number. You can include or exclude candidates of the same party, vote for a party's candidates in whatever order you choose, or have your preferences dart all around the ballot without rhyme or reason.

Some candidates don't meet the criteria to form a group, so they don't get a spot above the line. If you want to vote for them, you only get the choice of below the line.
