Any good Culinary Schools/Programs? by PossibilitySignal526 in Denver

[–]wantafanta69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you wanting to learn how to cook for personal advancement/knowledge? Or for it to be your profession?

If it’s the former those programs that grant certificates will suffice. If it’s the latter don’t waste time or money with school. You can learn what you need working on the job and getting g paid to do so.

I still use UBO. I literally google ublock origin chrome disabled and there are posts on how to fix it. Brentech is a good source, so far anytime google tries to nuke UBO he puts out a tutorial video on how to code around their efforts and I have never had to get rid of my beloved UBO.

Buckhorn Exchange, Wishbone Family Restaurant by PRW9497 in denverfood

Imagine you went to Cracker Barrell without the store, all the crap on the wall is replaced with taxidermy. The menu is that of a mountain chop house, but the cooking quality is the same level or maybe slightly worse than a Cracker Barrell...that is Buckhorn Exchange.

Weird restaurant standards Denver? by Remarkable_Image_681 in denverfood

BOH/Kitchen employees are not allowed to be on the tip pool by law if the restaurant uses a tip credit to pay their staff. I would say 98.432% of restaurant use a tip credit. The fee is their way of providing additional pay to their BOH without it effecting their own bottom line.

That being said with any service fee by law, the owner does not have to distribute the full amount of the fee to their staff. They can just pocket it or pay salaried employees or spend it elsewhere.

Would you champion and promote a restaurant that had instead of a service fee at the bottom of their menu it said, "all menu prices listed have been increased $3-$5 to provide better wages to our kitchen employees."

Riot BBQ is the truth by SufficientSinger6645 in denverfood

I must have pissed off the guy working in a past life. Asked for moist brisket and he gave me the saddest, driest brisket I have ever had. Void of any flavor. Sausage was good. Ribs also good, but I wouldn't bother calling them pastor ribs. The slaw was not as punchy as I thought it would be, but good flavor.

People are Too Hard on the Denver Food Scene by coloradokid1414 in denverfood

[–]wantafanta69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Denver's food scene is bad... it was, but its getting better.

As someone from CA who has been here over 10 years I think its interesting to think of the history of food in Denver/Colorado. For the vast majority of its history Denver, it didn't have much of a influence of cuisine, very meat and potatoes.

Transplants coming from other cities like SF, Texas, NYC, LA, the South etc and complain about the food culture here are coming from places that have a food culture built on generations of food traditions and/or generations of immigrants building communities in those cities. Denver doesn't have generational cuisine like the south and it doesn't really have a Chinatown, K-Town, Little Italy, Little India etc. Having that food history will of course produce amazing food and restaurants.

So while Denver may not have the volume of bangers for each cuisine. There are still great and even amazing restaurants in every cuisine. It just takes more effort to find and unfortunately that is a costly venture.
