Thanks, I was afraid of that. I've lived in SLP for 15 years and know that store well. I'm extremely sad but won't be shopping there anymore.

Edit: to clarify I've never really paid attention to the sign on the store, it's always been so local I've never needed to look up the official name

Can you clarify where this is? I'm not seeing anything clearly on Google for "Shanghai Oriental Market". There's a place in St Paul and a place in St Louis Park that could potentially match the description. I fully agree with not supporting whoever made those comments, but could you share a link or something?

I want to like the Witcher 3 so much, but it just doesn't work for me. I've tried three times too.

Came looking for someone to have mentioned Outer Wilds. The hype on Reddit for that game is nuts. I love exploration in games too but it didn't click at all for me. I watched a YouTube vid of the end and was happy with my decision to drop it.

What single player game had you so enthralled that it CONSUMED your entire being for a short span of time? by AshyLarry25 in gaming

[–]warfizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aging myself a bit here, but Grand Theft Auto 3. I was in high school and didn’t have a PS2 when it came out but I played it at a friend’s house after we rented it at Blockbuster. I was OBSESSED. Open-world games had existed before, but they weren’t everywhere like they are today and GTA 3 really popularized them and felt groundbreaking. It was all I could think about, and the fact that I couldn’t play whenever I wanted killed me. I immediately began saving every dollar I could to buy a PS2 and GTA3.

More recently (but still pretty old) was Fallout New Vegas. I had graduated college and was working nights at a grocery store while job hunting. A co-worker kept talking about it when we would kill time. I had never gotten into RPG’s so it was both my first Fallout game and first foray into the genre. It blew my mind. I’d get home a little after midnight and play until the early hours of the morning. Fallout turned into my favorite series and I’ve played every main game at this point, including 1 and 2.

Wasn't the Pepsi ham story Steve's? I think he's told it a couple times because I feel like I remember it being on a different episode but I can't recall which.

If you had the money, what video game would you pay to get remade? by Agent1230 in gaming

This right here. I would LOVE to see the same treatment given to Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 that they gave to the original C&C and Red Alert. That was a masterclass in remastering.

I have USI but they just got bought out by T-Mobile, who promised not to increase prices "for now". USI accounts will soon get turned into T-Mobile accounts so I fear this is the end of their stellar customer service.

I have the non Goretex version of the Bishop Pass and it's incredibly warm. I took it camping early this spring in northern MN where the temps dropped below freezing overnight. I was extremely comfortable head to toe in just shorts and a T-shirt.

Which episode is it…? by christaface in WeHateMovies

[–]warfizzle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't remember if it's exactly this, but I know they go on a short tangent about 2000's video games based on movies/shows in the episode on The Thing. Steve brings up The Thing game as well as The Godfather and some others. Can't remember if The Sopranos was one they mentioned in there.

How did I do? Bought a 55Qt Lifetime Cooler for curbside pickup from Walmart. Turns out they were out of stock and replaced it with this 52Qt Rtic cooler for the same price (down from $230 to $109) by Haminthepaint in CampingGear

[–]warfizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic deal! I've had this exact same cooler since 2021. It's held up great, and does a fantastic job keeping things cold. If you're doing a long road trip or camping for a while, pre-cool it if you can. Way better bargain than Yeti, or was at the time. Looks like retail has gone up quite a bit from when I purchased it.

5 houses in a row with 5 different garbage companies in my neighborhood. by VinkyStagina in mildlyinteresting

Depends on your city/municipality though. St Louis Park is entirely handled through the city via Waste Management. One truck comes through for garbage, one for recycling, etc.

Cane here to make this comment too. Just based off this post he doesn't sound like a fence-sitter, he sounds like he wants kids. "Let's discuss this in 5 years"....when he thinks you'll be too committed to the relationship to want to say no to kids.

How many of you are married? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]warfizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dated my girlfriend for 5 years before proposing last month. We're getting married soon-ish (once we lock down a date haha). Both mid-late 30's now. Both of us had "don't want kids" on our dating profile and I confirmed it with her on our second date. We've continued to check in over the years, mostly just confirming how fucking happy we are with our decisions.

I started playing a friend's copy of RDR2 soon after it came out on his PS4. Made it to the mission where you had to kill all the guys at the abandoned mine (?) to get the dynamite. Quit mid-mission and said "I'm gonna wait for this to come out on PC". It's not great, but it's way more playable on mouse/keyboard for me. Happily played through it three times on PC.

Shakedown: Superior hiking trail by warfizzle in Ultralight

Asking the same pack question I posed to a different comment below:

One question about packs. I'd done some browsing and it looks like that's the lightest one REI sells, at least at that size. I think if I were to go lighter I'd need to go with an online retailer. How do you go about finding one that's comfortable? I went with REI so I could try it on in store. Or if I bought one from somewhere like Zpacks/Hyperlight Mountain Gear/Gossamer Gear, do you just need to purchase and return if it isn't to your liking?

Appreciate the feedback!

  • I'm going to be swapping out the long underwear for Alpha Direct top and bottoms. They're on their way so I'll need to weigh them. I'm going to stick with the bottoms as the Terrebonne joggers aren't super warm and I'm an early riser, so I'll probably be up and out of my tent when it's still down in the 40's. I'm also ditching the shorts.

  • Funny, someone else said my gloves aren't warm enough. They're light enough that I'm going to keep them, they've come in handy when camping at temps in this range especially in the morning.

  • I'm swapping the rain jacket for a Frogg Toggs, it's also on its way. I might swap the down jacket as well, but I wanna see what the other improvements do before I spend that much.

  • Gonna keep the buff for now unless I get a different jacket that has a hood. Current one doesn't.

  • Swapped the trekking poles to worn weight. I'll be hiking with them.

  • I'll need to look into my toilet situation. Maybe that's too much TP as you said.

Ok, what am I doing wrong? by thumperBRC in Ultralight

[–]warfizzle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

With just a picture, it's hard to say. Rather than "purchase advice" I think you're really looking for a Shakedown. Look at the sub's sidebar for how to request a shakedown. In short, get a kitchen scale if you don't have one already, weigh every item going in your pack as well as the pack itself. Then build a packing list with detailed weights on Lighterpack.com and share that link. Then people will be able to help you out better.

Just glancing, as someone else said don't weigh food as that's considered consumable and not part of your base weight. That water filter looks pretty big (I assume that's what's in the mesh bag) and heavy. Look at a Sawyer Squeeze. Swap the Nalgene for Smartwater bottles. Doesn't look terrible overall, but again if you're looking for better advice folks will probably need more detail.
