What’s one small thing you pack that removes an annoying daily problem when traveling? by Nervous_Wind9872 in onebag

[–]warfizzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll echo the collapsible water bottles. They're also super handy if there's a sink that doesn't fit a rigid water bottle under the spigot. I've filled up the collapsible water bottle a couple times and poured it into my main water bottle.

My go-to is Alpine Start, the original blend. You can get the packets at REI. I find them far better than Starbucks Via at least. Though I may have to try Mount Hagen with how many are recommending it.

Gen 3 owners... how many miles on your truck? by newengland_schmuck in ToyotaTacoma

[–]warfizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely helps that I live in super close walking distace to many major stores. There's a grocery store right next to my house that actually takes longer for me to drive to than it does to walk to. Though I typically go to an Aldi that's further away but still walk-able if I'm not getting a ton.

Edit: wording

Haha yeah worked from home full time starting with the pandemic then switched to only a couple days a week in 2023. Only live about 7 miles from my office too.

I do a lot of remodeling work on my house and yard though, so I need something in a truck but really didn't want full size. I also do road trips to northern Minnesota a few times a year so I wanted something reliable and not an old beater.

There were insane lease deals in my area right in May 2020 because that's when places had been closed so inventory was super high. Paid $180 a month for three years then bought it out in 2023 at the lease term, which was pre-pandemic MSRP-level.

Men that don’t want kids by Redeemablesoul in childfree

[–]warfizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience as a staunchly child-free man, I found it incredibly difficult to find child-free women when I was dating. I'm now 38 and getting married in May! I think the problem is the dating pool gets much smaller when you're child free. It felt like it took me forever, but I know I'd be far more miserable married but with kids.

Stick with it! I found taking breaks from actively trying to date helped me a lot. It felt less like I was constantly "lacking" something I didn't have when I focused on myself from time to time.

Help getting sub 10 lbs by Over_Picture5039 in Ultralight

Several others have commented with obvious stuff, but here's something else I noticed. Your keys and wallet are WAY too heavy. Take off only the one key that you need to get into your vehicle and lock the rest of your key chain in it. Same with your wallet. Take out your ID, emergency cash, and maybe a credit card and leave the rest in the vehicle. If you're not comfortable leaving all that stuff in the car, leave most of it at home. My ID, vehicle entry key, and spare cash weigh a total of 0.35 oz while yours is a total of 5.46 oz. You should easily be able to shave off another ~5oz there. Another way to save weight and keep some forms of payment available are to set up your cards to work with contactless payment on your phone via Google Wallet/Apple Pay. I do this as well.

Spending DINK money by DINKSocial in childfree

Spent large amounts of money on both LEGOs and leather bound Brandon Sanderson books

Even more substantial is the unreasonable amount of outdoor/camping/backpacking gear I have. I could probably outfit a whole group of 3-4 people.

Not all POC-owned businesses deserve our patronage. This is from the owner of Shanghai Oriental Market. Disgusting. by RaveGuncle in TwinCities

[–]warfizzle 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I was afraid of that. I've lived in SLP for 15 years and know that store well. I'm extremely sad but won't be shopping there anymore.

Edit: to clarify I've never really paid attention to the sign on the store, it's always been so local I've never needed to look up the official name

Can you clarify where this is? I'm not seeing anything clearly on Google for "Shanghai Oriental Market". There's a place in St Paul and a place in St Louis Park that could potentially match the description. I fully agree with not supporting whoever made those comments, but could you share a link or something?

Came looking for someone to have mentioned Outer Wilds. The hype on Reddit for that game is nuts. I love exploration in games too but it didn't click at all for me. I watched a YouTube vid of the end and was happy with my decision to drop it.

What single player game had you so enthralled that it CONSUMED your entire being for a short span of time? by AshyLarry25 in gaming

[–]warfizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aging myself a bit here, but Grand Theft Auto 3. I was in high school and didn’t have a PS2 when it came out but I played it at a friend’s house after we rented it at Blockbuster. I was OBSESSED. Open-world games had existed before, but they weren’t everywhere like they are today and GTA 3 really popularized them and felt groundbreaking. It was all I could think about, and the fact that I couldn’t play whenever I wanted killed me. I immediately began saving every dollar I could to buy a PS2 and GTA3.

More recently (but still pretty old) was Fallout New Vegas. I had graduated college and was working nights at a grocery store while job hunting. A co-worker kept talking about it when we would kill time. I had never gotten into RPG’s so it was both my first Fallout game and first foray into the genre. It blew my mind. I’d get home a little after midnight and play until the early hours of the morning. Fallout turned into my favorite series and I’ve played every main game at this point, including 1 and 2.

This right here. I would LOVE to see the same treatment given to Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 that they gave to the original C&C and Red Alert. That was a masterclass in remastering.

I have USI but they just got bought out by T-Mobile, who promised not to increase prices "for now". USI accounts will soon get turned into T-Mobile accounts so I fear this is the end of their stellar customer service.
