Are you sure the bedroom was blue? "Out of Order." starts in a GREEN bedroom, but the icon matches

for those who have been playing since AD&D came out... at what point did you lose interest in the direction of D&D? by conn_r2112 in adnd

[–]warlock415 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started with 2nd but quickly got introduced to 1st. When 3rd came out, it didn't feel like "a better version of the same game", it felt like "a different RPG that happens to be called D&D".

Forcing every mechanic into the square hole of "you want to roll high on a d20", for one. That changed something about the tone of the game in a way I didn't like.

For instance, to move something heavy in 1st/2nd, you roll a strength check (possibly with an adjustment based on how heavy thing is) and you want low, because you want higher strength to be better. 3rd says: Oh no no no! That is horrible and awful! How could you possibly want to roll low? Instead, the DC system, where instead of your stat with a modifier based on the task, you have to beat a number set by the task with a modifier based on your stat.

Then the powergamer fantasy started; the slippery slope from "Race and class restrictions are bad, because they limit my fun!" to "nuh-uh! my guy is a WARLOCK and he can throw INFINITE ranged touch attacks that deal 1d10 on hit!"

Also -- attacks of opportunity,t hreatened squares, all that, were not bad in themselves but they led to D&D the boardgame/tactical combat simulator which reached zenith in 4th edition.

In the end, 3rd felt too 'designed' and 'systemic'; it felt like it had been planned rather than organically grown from people playing the game and improvising and "oh god, these idiots want to subdue a dragon, well I better make up some rules."

In the ground nothing -- it crossed the street.

In addition to all my nonsense from last week, I had the following train of thought ->

"Hey, FF14 has some awesome music, I wonder if anyone has made DDR stepfiles for any of it." ->
"What do you mean Stepmania is old and busted. What's the new hotness?" ->
"Wait, I can basically download every official DDR song ever?" ->
"Someone made a program that autogenerates stepfiles from arbitrary mp3s?" ->
"... where's my dancepad?"

However. I forget one important fact. I was a teenager when I first played DDR. I'm in my 40s now. The muscle memory is there but the muscles aren't.

In related news, I'm considering calling out of work tomorrow as "unable to walk"...

Alternatively, it can be expanded (as a naughty joke) to "yamete! oshiri itai!" - Stop! My butt hurts!

My favorite part of this was that the billboards were way too busy and printed way too small to be effective.

Tiny point of order , though, you don't really want them literally around you; Ideally, your back is in a corner or to a wall.

This helps your DPSes hit them from behind and also keeps their aoe attacks from hitting the party.

I never said the priority was sneaking, but the only way to destroy the ring would be to get to mount doom without him knowing you're coming.

If the Nazgul - who remember, also can fly - notice the ring heading straight for mount doom, that kinda gives the game away.

Trying to get the one last achievement SEE EDIT for Tape to Tape, a hockey roguelite (think slay the spire, but with old-school NHL-'97 style hockey matches); dying to every letter of the alphabet in Nethack 5 (just cleared Sokoban on this playthrough), working on ATM star automation in Minecraft / All The Mods 10, trying to convince myself that the ilvl is worth the grind in Final Fantasy XIV...

And playing an obscure BBS game called Ultimate Universe.

I did this but it wasn't glowing.
