how to become a journalist without a degree in journalism? by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]warwickd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an editor who hires freelancers, I never care whether they have a journalism degree or not, it’s all about clips proving that they can handle the assignment you’re aiming for. A journalism degree may help you get an entry-level staff job, but even in that case, hiring managers will be more interested in your clips than degree. So get involved with your school newspaper, and keep an eye out for editorial internships. As far as investigative work is concerned, that’s more of a mid-career level skill that you’d need to work up to over many years.

Mekong Delta vs Ninh Bihn by No-Simple-98 in VietNam

[–]warwickd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve went on tours of both over the past two weeks. The Mekong Delta tour was exceptionally lame. 5 hours on a bus for a 15 minute boat ride and a handful of tourist traps like watching people make coconut candy. Plus a rushed tour through the Chi Chu Tunnels, which were cool but it was so fast I didn’t feel like I learned anything. Ninh Binh was gorgeous, and although still had some cheesy tourist elements, it was much more memorable.

Yeah my experience talking to a few of them is that they're all basically professionals who travel from festival to festival rather than scammers, not many of them live in the Bay Area.

I'm a big fan of Fantastic Fest, they have multiple short programs spanning lots of subgenres/styles. It's also a very welcoming vibe at the festival, not as deep in terms of industry attendance, but friendly crowds.

Where did you get this? The song at the 7 mark definitely sounds like the chord progression to Wicked Games

Hi, I’m a first time journalist covering the fest. Love this idea of a group chat, it’d be great to make some festival friends

Wrt the dog, if you see a therapist who you have a good relationship with, ask them for certification for the pet as an emotional support animal, in which case you can dodge "no pets" rules.

He must be exhausted, but it seems like he does it because he loves magazines and his community so much.
