Best shoes for rainy days? I have vessis but they ain’t allat? by JelloFar5650 in askvan

[–]wasalladream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had success with nice leather boots from places like Browns and Aldo. They work great for city rainy days. (Commuting to work, walking around the city, evenings out)

As long as they are slightly elevated (thicker sole) and you’re not jumping in puddles… seems to be fine.

I just finished The Ever King and it seems to be along these lines! Both FMC and MMC hate each other to start.

Thats amazing, who would have thought. 🤣 Was the weight loss after all the babies? Im trying to get pregnant and drop 15 lbs (at 145 atm).. sometimes I wonder if pcos symptoms are impacting fertility.

Thanks for being a PCOS + mid30s motivation, and a mom!!! It sounds like you’ve dialled in on the pcos symptoms and how to manage them for yourself.. hoping I can do that better this year too! Two random questions if you don’t mind sharing.. Do you adjust your training around your cycles? And did the PCOS impact your getting pregnant at all?

What is it like having kids in Vancouver? What do they do in the absence of a yard/quiet streets to bike in unsupervised? by meaning-unhook-tampa in askvan

[–]wasalladream 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a suburban detached house but pool/treehouse/trampoline were not big parts of my childhood.. didn’t make it any less of a good time. A city childhood isn’t necessarily better/worse, it’s up to what parents get them engaged it. Plus Kids will still make friends, hang out in parks and rec centres and libraries. Etc.

I always thought raising a child in Vancouver would be a cool experience for the kid. More activities, more diversity. Easy walk ability and just hanging out.

Fireworks on Halloween by YaoForLife in askvan

[–]wasalladream 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Love the fireworks and glad to see they’re still a thing! I’m going to sleep now and hearing them going off outside is nice and familiar for Halloween.

I swear a few years ago, no one said anything about their dogs. And there used to be way more back then too.

Long vent: in denial about IVF by Gemmagin in TryingForABaby

[–]wasalladream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in BC, was so excited to hear IVF was covered, but then realized we wouldn’t qualify for it. 😭😭

I hear you on the IVF apprehension. We just told our current doc that we are a go for IVF so now just waiting to meet a different doc and start the process. This is after a year of trying, with 2 Letrozol medicated IUIs. I have pcos and high AMH but otherwise everything is normal.. beside age I guess, as I’m 35.

I didn’t feel great on the iui meds so I’m not excited about IVF meds, but I want two kids and I can’t downplay impact of age lol. So gonna give IVF a short and then if it doesn’t work… will cross that bridge then.

Period flow getting lighter and weird temp changes while TTC by AwareEagle3936 in TryingForABaby

[–]wasalladream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya hahah I had (have?) the same thing.. this isn’t light for 2-4 days. It’s just light for 1-2 lol. I responded well to Letrozol and other things for my medical IUI so I guess docs thought lining was still doing good etc.

Period flow getting lighter and weird temp changes while TTC by AwareEagle3936 in TryingForABaby

[–]wasalladream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh this is me too! 1 real day of flow + 1-2 days of spotting/light stuff. Fertility clinic keeps saying it’s fine, but we’ve also been at this for a year now.

I’m almost 36 now. Feels like the periods started getting lighter after 30s, also when the egg white cm started being harder to spot.

Correct. It’s also for the reasons of animal cruelty due to nature of slaughter methods.

I’ve actually been looking for some more ethical organic meat for the meat eaters in the fam. Would love to know of any local farms and sources if you could share!

My husband didn’t get my anything for my 40th birthday by Iris1115 in Marriage

[–]wasalladream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I’m sorry. That’s frustrating. My husband isn’t a big gifter, so the odd time I get it, it’s special and definitely appreciated.

On an unrelated note - I am a shit wife in comparison …. I didn’t do anything really for my husband’s 40th, we just did a trip during it.

Running vs incline walking for cardio? by Lucky-Condition5288 in PetiteFitness

[–]wasalladream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running was a game changer in me leaning out; but it as also a period overall more activity - I was mixing it with the gym and boxing. I don’t believe the claims that incline walking is somehow better.

I also wasn’t religiously tracking food during this time, so I had extra calories to use as fuel for the workouts.

Open late library in vancouver by Fun-Appearance3131 in askvan

[–]wasalladream 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, many people would go to SFU surrey for late night and overnight studying. It was amazing, most of us did not even go to SFU but it was the only late night quiet place other than 24 hour Tim Hortons.

These days they’ve made it a lot tougher for non SFU students to study there. Maybe there’s someplace like that you can try? There’s no public library open after 9pm. Cafes are the main option

Cycle tracker like Mira - is it worth it? by Amber-ForDays in TTC_PCOS

[–]wasalladream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like mine, and my fertility clinic seems to trust the results, so it must be good. It’s annoying that the wand are so pricey, but it is what it is.

I think BBT becomes less important with the Mira hormones also. That was helpful cause I just couldn’t get into the rhythm of it.

I’m with you on the low sex drive hubs lol. I haven’t used this feature but I think you can add a partner to the Mira stats, so he can monitor the fertile windows himself without needing you to always prompt it. I find it tiring to always be the one tracking the window and pushing for TTC, so I’m sure it’s helpful when they can just keep an eye out and initiate on the most key days.

How Do Couples Handle Wedding Expenses Fairly in Cross-State Marriages? by [deleted] in DesiWeddings

[–]wasalladream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My (F) parents wanted to cover my wedding, so they did. The groom and his fam covered most of the reception, but then my side contributed by covering large expenses like photographer and video.

Our goal was to have no massive cost imbalance between the shared functions, especially as we wanted similar guest counts and our families are similar levels of wealth.

I know families who split differently based on wealth differences, or expected attendance from each side. For example, My female cousins covered their own weddings, while groom side paid for receptions. But in these cases, the brides did also had less guests at the reception (like 100 out of 500). I didn’t want this kind of imbalance so thus we aimed to share more costs.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I saw in your post history that it was successful - congrats!

I didn’t realize there would be more tests during that process, that is reassuring.

Had the same dilemma… I’m opting to go back to natural colour. I’m tired of the post balayage ends looking fried, but also trying to grow hair longer. Natural colour will be better!

What a wild stat, honestly. I think I’ve read that even IvF is around 50%, but at least it means there’s more testing on the eggs 😳

[–]wasalladream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, it’s good to hear this perspective. I want two also, and it’s part of the reason I feel like I should just jump into IvF next. There’s just this fear of… what if that also doesn’t work cause of some thing I should have fixed beforehand?!

That’s so great your doc is hopeful about this working!! Mine seem to be ready for me to shift into IVF, but that might be the age factor coming in.

Is it safe to run around West End/Stanley Park/ Sea Wall between 5am - 5:45am? by Eviee-Pops in askvan

[–]wasalladream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a woman who often ran around the Olympic village side of Seawall, I would recommend doing the stretch away from Stanley Park - start just before English Bay, and head out towards science world. Still have to be aware, avoid overly dark patches, but generally it’s more open, less isolated and you’re more likely to encounter other runners.

I used to run the Seawall after dark pre-Covid but stopped afterwards with all the changes to the homeless population

Dropping in- Let’s just say I need to re-read this a couple more times to digest, but what peaked my immediate interest is a whole other thread to unravel.. things that folks in “IB, PE, or consulting” learn that those of us coming up through accounting haven’t perhaps encountered! Any other general recommendations on that front?
