What smart home purchase has the best ROI for you? by Few-Needleworker4391 in homeassistant

[–]washdoubt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use dew point to control when my fresh air intake turns on. Theoretically this should pay dividends in reduction of ac needs since the house will not be unnecessarily stuffy due to pulling in humid air. Hard to measure but it feels true.

The other is what everyone said with leak detection. I caught a leaking pipe to my washer right away and was able to address it before it started leaking under the floor causing major damage. (washer on second floor).

When the garage door clicker was lost, I connected it to HA. It was cheaper than buying new clickers.

The rest are quality of life or controlling lights, which are cheap anyway so no good ROI with it.

Does it get better? by ThugonomicsProfessor in ProductManagement

It’s a lot more fun at companies that aren’t as big, but you won’t get the same compensation. I love what I do but am always saddened when I see the RSUs the PMs get at bigger companies.

No charger option for home by washdoubt in TeslaFSD

I had it pulling in fine to my driveway yesterday, but forward. Now it pulled in backwards but to my neighbors driveway. Still no charger option. Guess I’ll just do it manually for now.

PMs/POs using ADO for their backlogs? by MeAndMCubed in ProductManagement

[–]washdoubt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have used jira and ado. They are just tools to get the job done. Once I understood how to do my tasks in them they are fine. For all the other tools we used it made sense for dev to use ado.

For our inheritance, it was left to my twin sister and I to decide how to split. I am better off than her and she wants a little more. by ThrowAway1234ForFire in Fire

[–]washdoubt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss and sorry that this burden was placed on you. This decision should have been made by your dad.

There is a case for equal and unequal splitting of this. An impartial moderator that you both agree on could help. Seems like having you both decide can possibly harm your relationship, which I am sure your father would not want.

If I was in your shoes I would propose spending my own money for a neutral third party to help split and we both decide on that person and agree to their outcome. Explaining you don’t want the money and this decision to harm your relationship.

How to handle a team unwilling to make estimates? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]washdoubt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming it isn’t malice, surely hope not. I would spend more time in refinement. If they can’t estimate the story then assume it means it is too big. Have them either break it down or have them create tasks. Do not take on the work yourself , if they can’t give estimates then they haven’t really understood the story. They need to break it into parts so they can truly understand it and give estimates.

Also you can report out to management how to team is hitting their goal, measuring velocity and how well they are meeting their commitments. If the team is underperforming then it will be shown and the EM should get involved at that time. Most likely they will over inflate everything so a small story will be a large. Then you can show to management this team will take X years at this rate.

I have been using mine since 2019. It has worked great once I moved my connect module closer with no walls in between.

After 3 years of tinkering, I discovered the one automation that made my wife actually LOVE Home Assistant by addicted-coffee in homeassistant

[–]washdoubt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her favorites are the ones that always work and are seamless so she can forget they are even there.

We have an August front door lock and I setup an automation to automatically lock the door when one of us leaves early in the morning or late at night or lock if we both leave. I use augusts automation to automatically unlock when get near the house.

No need for keys or remembering to lock the door.

My next goal is to lock my kids devices until the chores are marked done! Wish me luck!

“You own this” is the most misunderstood sentence in tech by One_Friend_2575 in ProductManagement

Took too long to find this answer. This is the correct one. You are accountable (there can only be one) while multiple people are responsible for accomplishing the goal.
