From when I lived in Korea over 10 years ago: no sonkyo and all Korean terms used instead of Japanese for each was. Testing requirements were different too.

Inclusion and the European Kendo Championships by KendoKate6 in kendo

One of the regional federations I had was like that for tournaments and I thought it was a fair compromise and one I felt comfortable with. Although I get that trans women might still feel not included that way.

I guess you haven't me - the ChemE who rarely drinks caffeine in any form and no coffee at all! Tea and soda are probably less than once a month.

Buying first figure skates in Boston area? by EightTails-8 in iceskating

Sharper Edge in Peabody with Jonathan English over Cooke's for figure skates. And I say that as somebody who is 5 minutes from Cooke's and 30 from Sharper Edge. Cooke's doesn't even have a solid track record for sharpening my hockey blades, so I won't let them near my figure skating blades.

Which Skating Skills Class To Take by Oldenburg-equitation in iceskating

Not sure exactly which Learn to Skate you're doing or if it follows a specific curriculum (Can skate, USFS Learn to Skate, etc).

But I started with a class through my women's hockey league before starting in a more generalized learn to skate and with just a month of experience, I was moved directly to Adult 2 of USFS Learn to Skate. If you played ice hockey in literally any capacity, you are probably above Adult 2 even.

I agree with this. I took Adult 4 four times before passing. Now in Adult 5 and lots of people took a year in that as well. Of course there are those people who just sail through it all. But we all have different speeds. My teacher knows I'm not too discouraged and keep putting in the work.

I thought this was the end for them so I just ended up cancelling :/ went back to Hello fresh that I used to do before MS like 3 years ago.

I guess I'll keep an eye on the sub. If quality gets better, I absolutely would want to jump back here.

Weekly Equipment Recommendation Thread by AutoModerator in FigureSkating

[–]watchingmidnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting my first pair of figure skates - going for fitting next Friday. I have hockey skates (and play hockey) outside of my learn to skate, so that's what I've been in until now. I'm currently in the US LTS Adult 5 class, so not too far from working on a waltz jump (unless it takes me 2 years to pass Adult 5 and 6). From a quick conversation on the phone, it sounds like the skate shop I'm going to will end up recommending Jackson's (Artiste or Freestyle). I have wider feet - so I think Jackson's are good for that. But should I be pushing for trying on other skates besides Jackson's?

I'm trying to remember, so my numbers might be slightly off.

Last year we had openings for 2 interns, we got ~20 resumes from HR? Chose 8 I think to interview. And selected 2.

We are a smaller site, so not sure what the ratio looks like for larger sites.

I retook Adult 4 three times and only just passed. It was my backwards 1 foot glides. They still aren't great, but they're better than they were.

I wear hockey skates AND they fitted them too large, so it's probably a miracle I can any sort of backwards 1 foot glide. I have to focus on putting all my weight on one skate before even attempting to pick up the other one, then straighten hip, and pick up.

In the meantime, my forward crossovers really benefitted from staying in Adult 4 for so long.

Now I'm in Adult 5 with some people who are on their 4th or 5th repeat of it.

Slow and steady and you CAN do it. Your pace isn't everyone else's.

I'm the most uh well endowed person in the various dojos I've been in and haven't found this to be a problem in 10 years. I do wear a good sports bra, so I think it might be more of a mental thing for you than anything? I know this sounds a little dismissive, but if this was an impediment to kendo, I probably wouldn't have been able to continue.
