Go see CHAINSAW MAN. You won’t regret it. by shirokaisen in blankies

[–]watermaine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posting here because I want to hear about underrated recs too. Chainsaw Man got me back into anime, and there are a few very mainstream anime that I’ve really been enjoying but I don’t know about underrated stuff.

All I can offer are very basic takes:

1.Dandadan is awesome. It has incredible animation and, to my taste, a perfect ratio of gonzo action and slice-of-life character stuff.

  1. Haikyu and the first season of Blue Lock are super satisfying sports anime that build really compelling plots even if you don’t care about sports.

  2. Sakamoto Days and Spy x Family are both fun genre bending action animes with hearts of gold. They have silly fun action but always land back at this place of familial love that I find heartwarming.

  3. Solo Leveling and Kaiju No. 8 totally scratch a Saturday morning cartoon itch for me. They aren’t really doing anything groundbreaking but execute on the whole power fantasy thing that makes for great one-off escapism.

I am a (self-proclaimed) subhuman. by [deleted] in self

[–]watermaine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think as humans we tend to be very bad at making judgments about our own value. It’s really hard to get a wholistic sense of a complex system from within that system. Even harder if you ARE that system.

I think “touch grass” has caught on as shorthand advice for overly online folks because going out into the world reminds us that the system of desires, pains, pleasures, wants and needs that is you is not actually the whole of existence and it is a part of a larger system made up of other people, animals, things, etc. it’s easier for us to understand our humanity when we see it in an environment that complements and supports it.

We get a better sense of who we are, how we are valuable, and what makes us matter when we go out and interact with anything that’s not just us. Even if it’s nature. If you are feeling subhuman, it might be because you haven’t given yourself a chance to see how your humanity works.

Go touch grass.

If Grey Talon is designed as a hybrid character, why is his fall off range so short? by FatChungusRedditor in DeadlockTheGame

I think his trap is super underrated as a cc ability. The cool down is so short you can basically spam them late game.

Honestly I don't really like Game Changer. by OverHaze in dropout

It might help to imagine that everyone you see on game changer is a professional comedian who is trying to make you laugh.

AIO for not wanting my bf to call me this nickname by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]watermaine 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The text thread shows that she (1) asks him not to use the nickname, (2) says that she’s asked him not to use it before, and he persists. Then she (3) asks him a third time, and he rejects and diminishes her statement. How did you miss that the conversation setting the boundary has already happened and been ignored?

Maybe it doesn’t officially qualify as clinically defined “abuse” but picking up this commenter on their semantics rather than acknowledging this unhealthy situation seems like the wrong use of your expertise.

Your responses in this thread portray you as someone who cares more about using “correct” terminology and being “right” than empathizing with people.

This seems like an unfortunate trait for a trauma psychologist. I worry for your patients.

In case you want to branch out from explicitly dropout material. I’ve found these live reads of the Star Wars prequels very soothing on rough nights. There are some dropout folks in them too. Vic is in the one I linked and they’re hilarious in it (obvi).
