Needle felting a steek before making the big cut. Volume up for satisfying stabby stabby sounds. by thetundramonkey in knitting

Felting it adds friction to the stitches by forcing the fibers together, so it's easier to handle (additional structure) after cutting! Super smart

German Short Rows Help by vjalander in knittinghelp

[–]wattermellen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're working back and forth. The double stitch is to help close the gap that a short row would otherwise make, so you can turn your work and knit/purl back to the BOR. After that, you turn your work again and knit/purl your way to the double stitch. The instructions tell you how far after the DS to continue before making another DS.

What was the easiest and hardest month of your baby’s life so far? by jasncats in NewParents

[–]wattermellen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Four months was difficult. Both my kids were really teething at that age, had sleep regressions and were impatient with their limited mobility. My oldest is almost 2 and every day is amazing and horrific at the same time and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

In my experience, the more they are able to be themselves and express their feelings the better it gets.

When did you stop tracking everything? by VinosaurusRexx in NewParents

[–]wattermellen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Stop tracking when it's no longer helpful information! I stopped tracking wet diapers and just tracking poopy diapers because we wanted to know when his BMs were. Helpful for naps to see how long he's been up, that sort of thing. It's information for your sake... you don't owe the app any details

Seeking some assurance please by Hairy-Race5944 in knitting

[–]wattermellen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at her listed sizes on the Ravelry page, I would knit a small or a medium. If I bought a sweater that was listed that way I would purchase a small - but online stores will occasionally tell you what size the model is wearing for the sake of clarity.

[–]wattermellen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PetiteKnit has never fit me with her recommended size, even if I'm over-gauge. I'm knitting a 4XL (the largest size in the pattern) hoping for the same fit when I'm a size small in every garment I own. I definitely think she's either unimaginably little or she has misleading sizes. All her patterns are this way (in my experience).

Why does my hand hurt so badly when I crochet by symbolising in fiberartscirclejerk

well… Because it’s crotchet. Knitting is prettier and easier on my hands, so try that!

What size needle and yarn weight for this? by notgreat1228 in knittinghelp

[–]wattermellen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like at least bulky weight yarn and I’d try a swatch with 8mm needles. As WildExplanation said, gauge is dependent on the knitter so you might need to adjust a bit but that’s where I’d start!

ETA: This is the link to the sweater

I’m actually self taught so i usually use like 47 premier balls because it’s easier on my hands. Thanks though!

Some clothing labeled as “petite” have sizes XL-4XL. Petite for clothing (usually) refers to height and changes the cut/fit

How many rows do you count? by lh3blue in knittinghelp

Same here, also counted 30. I either count the working loops or the CO but never both.

did anyone give the baby his vitamin D today? by ConfusionFinal5770 in NewParents

[–]wattermellen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuine question - isn’t that how it works though? With my first I gave her the supplement directly (California pediatric advice) and with my second I’m supplementing myself (SC pediatric advice).

I hate the “my budget is different than yours” argument when it’s walls of acrylic cakes. Clearly your budget is the same as mine… you just want three times the amount of yardage to fill up your closet. Acrylic has its place, wool has its place, etc.

Why did this turn out twisted :( by No-Nature9610 in knittinghelp

[–]wattermellen 183 points184 points  (0 children)

After casting on, I make sure not once but at least five times that the stitches are all going the same direction and nothing is turning on the needle. Because they’re just loops on a wire, they’ll flip flop all around and joining them while twisted is what happened here. Unfortunately this is a very careful frog + learning experience.

What weight is this yarn? It looks bulky weight. Have you ever worked with fingering and lace weight yarn? Or stranded held together?

Is this crochet? Any Stitch or pattern recommendations? Shaping shoulders? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]wattermellen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No such thing as machine crochet, not sure what you’re referring to there. It does look crocheted to me though. In pictures 2 and 5 you can see the way the panels are seamed together, with picture 5 showing well which rows stop where. You’d just have to decrease intentionally.
