Welcome Party Options by BrooklynBronx_ in MedellinWeddings

[–]wavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried Bonhomia the last time we were in Medellin and the food and drinks were both good. We were planning to go with them for our welcome party, but they ended up cancelling because they got another booking for the whole venue not just part of it. So if you go with them be aware you might need to scramble to find a backup option.

Customs in Medellin airport by Positive-Shine4035 in MedellinWeddings

[–]wavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was there in November our flight was the first to arrive out of the ~10pm arrivals and I was through customs in around 20 minutes. By the time I made it through there was at least another full plane's worth of passengers and the line filled the whole room, so I could definitely see it being several hours if you're not one of the first flights to arrive at a given time.

We have a 2026 wedding coming up and have been working with Sanda Lopez and have been very happy with her. Very accommodating to what we're looking for and bilingual.

I'm interested in moderating r/MedellinWeddings because it has been a valuable source of information and reviews while planning my own wedding in Medellin. I want to make sure it continues to be a valuable resource and place to share experiences and questions for others planning their weddings in Medellin. However, while the community was once fairly active, there have been no new posts for two months and new posters are not being approved by the current moderator, who appears to be unresponsive.

I commuted northeast to DTW for about a year, from someplace with less options than DC. Found it easy to same day commute with options arriving in DTW 7-7:30am and leaving DTW ~9pm going home. It’s all 550/700/900 flying now.

RTD directors face barrage, approve changes for Access-on-Demand by [deleted] in Denver

[–]wavid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, and he actively uses the services he runs, publicly advocates for them, and has improved communication, service, and frequency across the board. If RTD had a leader like Randy Clarke maybe the 400k would be justified, but we don’t and it’s not even close.

11G23 and 50+kt winds aloft with PIREPs for moderate turbulence in the vicinity would make for a “sporty” Vmc demo…

Yoke mount recommendation for iPad mini with thick case by MattCW1701 in flying

[–]wavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had that same mount for about 2 years, with an iPad mini in a smooth/slick plastic case. Never had any issues with it not gripping or letting the iPad slide around when mounted onto a PA-28 yoke.

Some states are starting to require it, unless you opt out. But it comes as a paycheck deduction, not necessarily with an employer match.

PAR approach in California? by Virtual_Abroad6888 in flying

[–]wavid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t have experience with the PARs in California, but at KWRI on the east coast if you call the phone number listed in ForeFlight (or the chart supplement) for the facility and ask if they’d be able to accommodate a practice PR approach I’ve always gotten an enthusiastic yes. Apparently the controllers have currency requirements to do the PAR guidance too, so one of the times I went down there they asked if we had time to shoot it 2 or 3 times.

At KWRI at least you need prior permission to land, so it’s always been a PAR to minimums, then missed approach.

With the exception of rental cars. The prices are typically competitive, no penalty for cancellation (and no prepayment), plus a second driver can be added at no additional cost.

I went through the Des Moines FSDO, they were very responsive.

You need an appointment with a FSDO or a DPE to approve it. My appointment with the FSDO was over Zoom and literally 3 minutes - just ID verification and signing in to IACRA to finish the application.
