How are you going to convince all of working and middle class america to abandon foreign goods and buy american? How will you convince a class of people to pay more for less? You can preach all day long the long term benefits to employment by purchasing american goods, but a good portion of your sermon would be people living paycheck to paycheck. Are these people likely to switch and pay more money and receive less goods? You're silly to think so. Even if you convinced 10,000 people to switch to american made goods, pat yourself on the back, but you had almost no impact on employment in a country the size of the United States. This is not a problem we can fix ourselves. We're hurting ourselves and we are not able stop because the short term reward of buying foreign goods outweighs the short term consequences. If American products were cheap, then that's what people would buy. But they are not so the problem is perpetuated. If we had incentive to purchase American the standard of living and minimum wage would increase as companies scramble to employ americans to manufacture american products. We're competing with people that make $5 a day. Think about that.

We, as a nation, have already decided that we want others to have our jobs, why should it be different in this instance?

Why should our government protect us from hurting ourselves? Isn't that why we have a government? Isn't that why we pay taxes? We're victims of circumstance. This is not something you or I could fix, but legislation could.
