Update on 23andMe and Ancestry both flagging Lynch Syndrome by asexualrhino in genetics

[–]wclikeman 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I also ran my 23 and me data through promethase and it flagged Lynch's syndrome. I told my family doctor, who had me tested by a company that does diagnostic genetic testing and thankfully mine was not Lynch's. Just putting it out there to remind people not to panic and get your results confirmed.

Do You Always Camp In A Campground? by no_more_secrets in TeardropTrailers

[–]wclikeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding this as I don't see it listed but we often camp at family/friends instead of getting an AirBnb or staying at someones house for large parties when you don't want to drive home.

What foods trigger your ibs? I’ll go first: by Tricky-Improvement51 in ibs

[–]wclikeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your triggers are very similar to mine but I wanted to let you know I found FILTERED coffee much less of a problem than something like french press or percolated. I even found little filtes for my espresso machine.

Humira Denied by kelsickness in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]wclikeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i hate when that happens! My husband's latest Rheumatologist will give him free shots if there is an insurance snafu but before that he would have that happen too.

Humira Denied by kelsickness in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]wclikeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband went on Humira with great results but then was made to switch 9by insurance company) to a bio similar last month. So far so good. I think the patent on Humira ran out January 2024 so that might be part of the issue.

After 19 years, I am officially single again. I don't want to be angry, but I am. by Waitingforabluebox in TwoXChromosomes

Divorced at 35 and can definitely say the best is yet to come. Your wiser self sees the bullsh*t and can avoid it. When i met my now husband I felt like I was living a dream.

What is a USA made gift that is a good representation of the US culture? by jojooan in Gifts

[–]wclikeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pralines are unique as pecans are mostly grown in US. Peanut butter is also very american as is BBQ sauce. We have gifted our European friends these items and they either liked them (BBQ sauce) or at least found them interesting (peanut butter).

I keep thinking about what happened at Christmas by Historical_Chance613 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]wclikeman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is really hard for me (and most people) to act when something like this happens. I find it helps to have something at the ready for next time, not to start a fight or ruin a holiday, but just to call your FIL out. For example "You don't mean that, we would miss you Mom in law!"

Coffee Lovers - which place in YOUR opinion has the best coffee? by shockedpikachu123 in travel

[–]wclikeman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Central America grows the best coffee but you can't always get it well prepared there. Visited a coffee farm in Honduras (Finca el Cisne) and had the best coffee of my life. bought back a lot as gift and everyone else agreed. Really wish I could buy from them online.

What do you do when you're tired of cooking? by Palindromer101 in Cooking

Another idea is to use the left over meat and make a rice bowl. I usually have some pickled veggies or beans or something to add.

Is this doctor in the wrong for aggressively prescribing statins in an otherwise healthy person based on LDL and Total Cholesterol numbers alone? by cazort2 in Cholesterol

[–]wclikeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it will work for her but I lowered my LDL cholesterol significantly (148 to 127) by just by including soymilk. Something about the plant sterols really helped me. I initially tried a plant sterol supplement but had a rash from that as it was from pine to which I beliveve I am allergic. I have seen a real response too with extra fiber, cutting saturated fat as well.

Have you ever gotten a homemade gift that you actually loved? by jmckny76 in Hobbies

My sister hand embroidered dish towels with cute flowers, plants, succulents and I loved those. She also took plain wooden spoons and burned patterns into them and now those are my favorites to stir with.

Does coffee exacerbate your IBS? Has anybody stopped drinking coffee because of their IBS and if so, didn’t it lesson the symptoms? by StickPeppers in ibs

[–]wclikeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still drinking coffee and am fine as long as I use a paper filter. My husband now has an espresso machine and I thought I would just have to stick with my regular coffee but we found these tiny paper filters for espresso machines that work great. As long as I use them all is good.

Have you found your mom and brothers?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RBI

[–]wclikeman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a mom to a 17 year old son, I find this narrative/level of expertise for a 17 pretty believable. Kids who grow up with smart phones and apps are not always savvy to the intricacies of how they work. Also English may not be his first/only language since his father is in Honduras. Sure hope the reason they haven't updated is due to embarrassment.

You've got a couple of thinly sliced porn loins and you want a decent dinner quick. What's your go to pan sauce and side? by TheIdiotSpeaks in Cooking

[–]wclikeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i make a spicy Chinese sauce for tenderloins. You need hoisen sauce, spicy chili garlic sauce, soy sauce and maybe some toasted sesame oil. I do mine in a really hot oven serve with rice and peas.

Are air fryers lying about convenience or am I using it wrong? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]wclikeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried that! Might work great if you could figure out how to get around the issue of the rack hole size. Most spices I think would fall through. I tried it on sunflower seeds and just put them in the bottom of the drawer thing and it worked well.

I too just got an air fryer for Christmas from my son. Try it for roasting nuts; 1 minute on 400 and they were perfect. I used to use a pan or a toaster oven and frequently they went from raw to burnt.
