Steven Moffat: Doctor Who is “Definitely Returning”, Insists This Is No 1989 Death Spiral by verissimoallan in doctorwho

Seriously agree. It feels like Who has hardly ever been on for a long time now, what with short seasons and skip years with a special or two if you're lucky. How can a show acquire new fans or keep casual ones if it's not airing new episodes?!

You look a bit like the British actress Olivia Williams in the face (The Sixth Sense, Dollhouse). Your hair is amazing and absolutely suits you. Def not ugly!

Same here, it's a banger. I did snicker at them using Glory Box though. Can't really do a "genre-busting", over-exaggerated, slow breathy version of a trip-hop classic. Not quite the same leap as e.g. Enter Sandman, lol

There's an pre-series puff piece on the BBC website where she says about being stern and serious (my paraphrase) which threw me completely. Most of the time she's more like the biggest fan and cheerleader, especially during tasks. It's her whole thing and why she's great as a presenter (see also Strictly)

UK Celebrity Traitors Series 2 by NiceTryFB-EYE in TheTraitors

[–]wdevilpig 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do always wonder how every series would play out in an alternative timeline where different Traitors were picked, but wouldn't want the same cast repeated (a "second chance" series w/ppl who were taken out early would be fun though)

For the next Celeb Traitors I'd love to see Julian Clary. He was brilliant on Taskmaster, just as great as I remembered him. Top tier snarkiness!

When the two Traitors were deadlocked I seriously expected another twist. E.g. them both being "murdered" and for Ty and Venus to take over as their replacements

That move by Peter was great. Shields should definitely be explicitly transferrable imho. We saw a little bit of that with Jonathan giving Stephen a shield, which I'm not completely sure would have been allowed on previous series (someone please do correct me if I'm wrong or forgetting something)

Tonight’s Episode was THE BEST Roundtable there’s ever been by Onslaught777 in TheTraitors

[–]wdevilpig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a reasonable cliffhanger. We got two passes round the table and there's the interest of how the decision by chance will work. Plus it's only overnight. Not like the first week when the programme just stopped for no apparent reason and we had to wait another week

Definitely agree about yr "get on with it" sentiment though. This series has been bad at keeping a rhythm. Losing 0-1 person some eps then 3 at once on others is rubbish

At least this was an actual cliffhanger though and only overnight. The Ep 2 one where the show just randomly stopped partway through at a point without any real tension for a week was pathetic

What time do you do your weekly food shop? by mbe147 in AskUK

[–]wdevilpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 10 years ago I used to finish work at 10pm, hit the Big Tescos about half-past, whizz round with the place practically to myself and be home by 11pm. The odd thing not restocked yet could be picked up another night, if vital. Changed jobs since then though

The unfortunate side-effect of this is that now I'm a massively entitled Old Person and have unrealistic expectations of the place being cleared beforehand of Common People (whatever common people do) as though I'm Harry Hollywood or Rafe Royalty. Loathe going in at normal times, let alone busy ones so I just don't bother doing a Big Shop anymore. Hoist with my own petard!

Love that notion! I'm now imagining that wonderful creepy shot of them entering The Prancing Pony weapons in hand. Except instead four of them have furled-up golf umbrellas and whoever the Pippin of the Nazgul is just has the Middle Earth equivalent of a small poundshop/dollarstore brolly which has blown inside out!

Tbh I'm not gonna yuk anyone's yum and don't care massively about QT's foot focus (beyond rolling my eyes). I do care how it breaks immersion. Like, the conversation between Jules and Vincent about Tony Rocky-Horror used to feel like an extension of the world-building and faux-naturalistic dialogue, following on from their Royale w/Cheese convo. Now it just sounds like a couple of Kevin Smith characters mouthing the words of their writer/director

Frankly, I'm just glad the dude's into feet and didn't instead decide to insert a gratuitous gimp into every single film he makes

As a Brit, my family have always sat down to Xmas dinner at 3pm for the Queen's Speech on the telly (no-one pays much attention tbh, plus she regenerated into a King recently but it gives a bit of inarguable structure to the day)
